1 About the course This course covers the knowledge areas required for builder registration. The Building Practitioners Board (BPB) considers the qualification as part of a broader examination of the applicant s knowledge and experience. The knowledge areas covered are: Business and financial management Technical building principles Operational management Supervisory management Legislation Sustainability. Master Builders Association of Victoria can provide you assistance with the Building Practitioners Board registration application and interview process. This course is designed for: Builders, site managers, forepersons, construction managers and other building practitioners involved with the management of, or wishing to start, small to medium sized building businesses Building and construction practitioners who wish to become the appropriately registered person with responsibility under Victorian legislation. Students who successfully complete all required units will receive their qualification and a transcript listing all the units. Training Recommendations There are no pre-requisites for this course. However this course is delivered at an accelerated pace of, so it is strongly recommended that students have: at least 3 years work experience in the building and construction industry before undertaking the course. You will be asked to verify your experience at a Pre-Training Interview English literacy and numeracy skills to successfully complete the course. Your skill level and learning needs will be evaluated in an online Pre-Training Assessment when you apply. Page 1 of 7
2 Course Content Students will learn how to: Select and prepare major domestic construction contracts Monitor and manage business operations and finances Apply structural principles to the construction of low-rise buildings Use the National Construction Codes and Australian standards Prepare and monitor project schedules and estimates Supervise physical and human resourcing of construction projects Interpret contract, OHS and building related legislation Initiate and implement risk management procedures Better meet the demands of regulators and clients Deliver 6 Star requirements, taking into account housing affordability Better design and construct dwellings. Learning Support Master Builders provides additional support to students who require assistance in completing their course assessments and requirements. A range of support services are available to students who experience literacy, numeracy and digital literacy difficulties. The course is delivered in face-to-face classes for 25 days scheduled over 16 weeks (duration varies for evening courses). 4 Financially manage the build CPC40110 Certificate IV in Building and Modules Units Delivery Code Title days BSBSMB404A Undertake small business planning Small Business Financial Management BSBSMB406A Manage small business finances 3 days Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) involves assessment of any relevant skills and knowledge you have previously gained through learning and work activities (including formal, informal and nonformal) to determine if it matches any unit learning outcomes in the course you are studying. You will need to provide evidence to support your application. Credit transfer means that if you have already successfully completed a unit of competency, you will be given credit for that unit and you will not have to study it again. The unit code and title must be exactly the same as the one you are seeking credit for. If the unit has been recoded, Master Builders staff will determine if it is an equivalent unit. You will need Statement/s of Attainment to support your application. If you decide to apply for RPL or credit transfer, we advise you to do it as soon as possible. The process takes some time and, if it is granted, you may not need to attend some classes. Contact the Training Department on (03) to discuss whether either of these pathways might be appropriate for you. NOTE ON FEES: For information on RPL fees, contact the Training Department on (03) RPL at Master Builders is not subsidised by Commonwealth and State government funding under the Victorian Training Guarantee (VTG). There is no charge for Credit Transfer. Assessment All assessments for this course are contextualised to building and construction workplace. Assessment activities will be a combination of knowledge tests, exams, written assignments, case studies, simulated workplace scenarios, action plans, research projects and observations. Page 4 of 7

For current funding opportunities, please refer to or contact the Training Department on (03) NOTE: Accessing the Victorian Training Guarantee (VTG) funding may affect your eligibility to access that fund again in the future. Currently, if for some reason you wish to study another course at the same level, it is unlikely that you could access the VTG entitlement for that training. Please think carefully about which course you choose to enrol in.
