4 Course Information Course Overview The course covers Estate Agents legal liabilities and responsibilities, management of client and agency relationships, property appraisal, listing and sale, leasing, auctions, management, acting as a buyer s agent, all accounting including trust requirements and risk management. Students who have successfully completed the Agents Representatives course may be eligible for credits in 3 modules of the Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate). Prerequisites to enrol Students must have sound English language and numerical skills and be able to understand oral instructions, read technical material and prepare written reports. Course materials include legal documents and forms. In order to handle the reading, writing, spoken and numerical tasks associated with real estate operations it is essential that students have a minimum equivalent to Level 2 of the National Reporting system. Read, comprehend and discuss printed information in English and write sentences; and Course Description This course is sometimes also referred to as the Agent s Licence or Sub-Licence course. It is the course you must do if you are being employed as a Real Estate Agents Representative in Sales or Property Management. All Agents Representatives have to be registered with Business Licensing Authority within two weeks of commencing work and evidence of completion of this course is required to support your registration. Qualifications and Recognition On completion of the Agents Representative units you will be able to work as an Agents Representative under a licensed Estate Agent; completion of the full course means that you will be eligible to apply to become a licensed Real Estate Agent and run your own Real Estate Agency. Career Opportunities Agents Representative Licensed Real Estate Agent Use and analyse data, relation and patterns, numbers, measurements and shapes. These entry requirements may have been acquired through work experience, life experiences and/or previous education and training. 4

6 What are our Fees Fee for service If this course is lower than any qualification already held, then you will not be eligible for a Government funded place. The course fee will be $3500 for full paying students. Government funded students If this course is higher than the qualification already held, then you will be eligible for a Government funded place. The course fee will be $1250, however make sure you are clear what you need to bring on the day. How to Enrol? Before you proceed, please check to see if you are eligible for Government funding, entitling you to a reduced enrolment fee. Please make sure you have checked your eligibility and the course fee s. Or if aged over 20 on 1 January in the year in which the course commences, enrolling in a qualification higher than the highest qualification already held. 8 How to enrol if you are entitled to Government Funding Step 1 - Complete our eform at You can access the eform at home via the internet, or your local library, etc or at the Holmesglen Short Course Department Moorabbin or Chadstone Campus and we will assist you. Step 2 - Write down, (or print) your unique eform number, when its given to you online and remember to bring it with you when enrolling. We will need this to process your application. Step 3 - Once you have submitted your application, we will assess your application to ensure that you are entitled to Government funding. What to bring when enrolling For a Government funded place, bring all of the following documents with you when enrolling, otherwise it will not be possible to complete your enrollment. To prove your eligibility, students must provide two of the following at the time of enrolment. 9 Frequently Asked Questions 1. Who can enrol in the course? We offer the course to train people wishing to enter the real estate profession. There are no educational prerequisites however competence in spoken and written English is essential. 2. What does the course involve? The basic knowledge and skill required to work as an Agents Representative, which includes an understanding of how the industry operates, knowledge of the basic legal principles relating to property sales and property management, and skill in the completion of various documents required for the sale and leasing of property. The focus is on the legal and ethical requirements although some basic customer service and communication issues are covered. 3. What is the availability and duration of the course? The course is available on Friday s from 9am-5pm at our Chadstone campus for 30 weeks or Wednesday 6-9pm at our City campus for 2 years. 4. What are the assessment requirements? To complete the course, students must successfully complete all written assignments and tests. 5. What are the entry requirements? Students must have sound English language (at least level 3) and maths skills and be able to understand oral instructions, read technical material and prepare written reports. The content involves being able to read and interpret legislation and legal documents which can be quite complex. It requires good comprehension and maths skills. 6. What is the eligibility for employment? To be eligible to work in the industry you must be at least 18 years old, have passed the Agents Representatives course, be of good character and be a fit and proper person. A police records check prior to commencing employment determines this. You cannot be employed if you are insolvent under administration or have had a claim upheld against the Estate Agents Guarantee Fund. You can check with Business Licensing if you are unsure of your status in this regard. Phone: How long is my training valid for? You must commence work in the Real Estate Industry within five years of completion of this course. 8. Should I buy any textbooks? No, the materials fee has already been included in the course fee and you will be provided with textbooks on the first day of your course. 9

10 9. When do I enrol? It is recommended that you enrol as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Normal Short Course Terms and Conditions apply regarding refunds and transfers. 10. What if the course is not going ahead? If the course is cancelled due to low enrolments you ll be able to get a full refund or to transfer your payment to the next available course. 11. Are there other conditions I need to meet for registration with Business Licensing Authority? Agent s Representatives must meet the following requirements for registration: Be at least 18 years of age Have a registered address in Victoria Pass the prescribed course Obtain an authority to act signed by the principal of the agency you will represent Present a police check not more than six month old.
