2 DIPLOMA OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT The direction your career takes is based on choice, judgement and the ability to pursue the goals you set yourself. Your experience, knowledge and ultimately your desire to achieve, sets you on a pathway of learning, which in turn develops your ability to progress your career prospects. If you have aspirations to work, or further your prospects in the facilities management, the Diploma of Facilities Management can assist you to achieve that goal. The Diploma of Facilities Management was designed and developed in close collaboration with industry stakeholders to build industry skills and knowledge, creating an opportunity for participants to complete a nationally accredited qualification that sets the benchmark for education and professionalism in facilities management. Designed as a self-paced, online program, the course was developed in the knowledge that someone working in the industry needs to have a flexible approach to learning while offering the right mix of technical knowledge, people skills development and currency within the industry s economic and social climate. FACILITY MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA The Facility Management Association of Australia is the peak national industry body for facilities management, representing and supporting professionals and organisations responsible for the operational management of Australia s built environments. The Diploma is a key plank in the Association s commitment to providing education and training to the wide variety of professionals involved with the management, operation and maintenance of Australia s built environments. 3 COURSE INFORMATION UNITS OF COMPETENCY There are eighteen units of competency the student must successfully complete in order to receive the Diploma of Facilities Management. ONLINE ACCESS The Diploma is a self-paced, online learning program. All course materials are provided through a web based portal and include a Learner and Assessment guide for each unit. Currently there are no face to face contact hours as part of the course, but a tutor is available to provide ongoing support. ENROLMENT & DURATION A rolling intake means you can enrol at any time and progress through the course at your own pace. Depending on content, units take about six to ten weeks to complete. Completing the full course should take about 850 hours over months. You should allow roughly six to eight hours per week for study purposes, but this may vary depending on how much prior knowledge and experience you have in the subject area. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING Your prior experience, skills and/or qualifications, may be taken into account in the form of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), or Credit Transfer. Please contact FMA Australia further information. FEES & PAYMENT All fees are GST free. Payment options include paying by unit, for a number of units at a time or full payment for the whole course. Refer to the application form for costs and payment details. ENROLMENT PROCESS To commence enrolment, complete and forward the application form to FMA Australia with your payment. On receipt, Holmesglen will be notified and you will receive an electronic enrolment form for completion. You will then receive a student ID and password for access to the online portal. COMPLETION On successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate awarding you a Diploma of Facilities Management, as recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Recognition by higher education providers (university level) is at the discretion of the provider. STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES Student support services are available on request. 4 UNITS OF COMPETENCY OUTLINE BSBOHS509A ENSURE A SAFE WORKPLACE Group: Business Management Nominal hours: 60 Performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and evaluate an organisation s occupational health and safety (OH&S) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area, in accordance with OH&S legal requirements. BSBRSK501A MANAGE RISK Group: Business Management Nominal hours: 60 Performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or specific business unit or area. The unit has been designed to be consistent with AS/NZS4360:2004 risk management. BSBWRT401A WRITE COMPLEX DOCUMENTS Group: Business Management Nominal hours: 50 Outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan documents, draft text, prepare final text and produce documents of some complexity. BSBMGT502B MANAGE PEOPLE PERFORMANCE Group: Business Management Nominal hours: 70 Performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage the performance of staff who report to you directly. Development of key result areas and key performance indicators and standards, coupled with regular and timely coaching and feedback, provides the basis for performance management. CPPDSM5029A MANAGE CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS/NETWORKS IN THE PROPERTY INDUSTRY Group: Business Management Nominal hours: 25 Outcomes required to maintain positive business relationships and active professional networks in the property industry. It requires the ability to share and promote professional experiences within a network and use interpersonal skills to build trust and improve client relationships. BSBFIM501A MANAGE BUDGETS AND FINANCIAL PLANS Group: Business Management Nominal hours: 70 Performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake financial management within a work team in an organisation. This includes planning and implementing financial management approaches, supporting team members whose roles involve aspects of financial operations, monitoring & controlling finances and reviewing and evaluating effectiveness of financial management processes, in line with the financial objectives of the work team and the organisation. CPCCBC4012A READ AND INTERPRET PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS Group: Facilities Management Nominal hours: 30 Outcomes required to read and interpret plans and specifications applicable to medium rise residential and commercial projects in order to inform estimation, planning and supervisory activities. CPPDSM5001A ADVISE ON THE USE AND DESIGN OF FACILITIES Group: Facilities Management Nominal hours: 20 Outcomes required to provide effective advice on the use and design of facilities to meet client needs. It requires the ability to conduct research to identify future facility requirements. CPPDSM5011A DETERMINE SPACE UTILISATION Group: Facilities Management Nominal hours: 30 Outcomes required to develop design briefs for the use of space. It requires the ability to analyse client requirements, develop design concepts and prepare a design brief using appropriate technology. 3
5 UNITS OF COMPETENCY OUTLINE CPPDSM5030A MANAGE PROJECTS IN THE PROPERTY INDUSTRY Group: Facilities Management Nominal hours: 80 Outcomes required to plan, organise and monitor projects in the property industry. It requires the ability to establish project requirements, monitor quality assurance processes and evaluate project processes and outcomes. CPPDSM5007A COORDINATE CONSTRUCTION OR RENOVATION OF FACILITIES Group: Facilities Management Nominal hours: 25 Outcomes required to coordinate the construction or renovation of facilities. It requires the ability to use appropriate consultative processes to determine requirements and to develop, monitor and finalise a construction plan. CPPDSM5008A COORDINATE FIT-OUT OF PREMISES FOR USER OCCUPATION Group: Facilities Management Nominal hours: 40 Outcomes required to coordinate the fit-out of premises for user occupation. It requires the ability to administer contracts, select fit-out methods and coordinate contractors and consultants. VU20226 DEVELOP AND MANAGE FACILITY MAINTENANCE PLANS Group: Facility Life Cycle Management Nominal hours: 50 Describes the facilities manager s responsibility to develop and plan for maintenance services within a facility to ensure peak operational efficiency. This includes regular scheduling and planning for services required to prevent premature failure and to maximise the life of the facility. CPPDSM5034A MONITOR PERFORMANCE OF PROPERTY/FACILITY PORTFOLIO Group: Facility Life Cycle Management Nominal hours: 20 Outcomes required to monitor the ongoing performance of a property or facility portfolio. It requires the ability to provide advice and recommendations to the client based on an accurate analysis of investment performance. VU20225 MANAGE THE LIFE CYCLE SERVICES OF FACILITIES Group: Facility Life Cycle Management Nominal hours: 50 Outcomes required to manage the continuous process of service provision to support facilities systems and practices that are sustainable. VU20224 MANAGE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY OF FACILITIES Group: Facility Life Cycle Management Nominal hours: 50 Outcomes required to engender a culture of social, economic and environmental sustainability in facilities management, including managing and evaluating building systems performance according to sustainability attributes. BSBFLM509B FACILITATE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT Group: Facility Life Cycle Management Nominal hours: 60 Performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to lead and manage continuous improvement to systems and processes. Particular emphasis is on the development of systems and the analysis of information to monitor and adjust performance strategies and to manage opportunities for further improvements. VU20227 FOSTER INNOVATIVE PRACTICE WITHIN THE FACILITY Group: Facility Life Cycle Management Nominal hours: 60 Skills and knowledge required by facilities managers to foster an environment in which continuous improvement, innovation and learning are promoted and rewarded. 6 TERMS AND CONDITIONS DEFINITIONS In these terms and conditions, unless the context otherwise requires: 1.1."GST" means Goods and Services Tax or other tax that is substituted or replaces the GST tax. 1.2."the Supplier" means Facility Management Association of Australia Ltd trading as FMA Australia. 1.3."the Customer" means the person or persons, company or business entity as described on the face hereof. 1.4."the Diploma" means the goods or services sold by the supplier to the customer as described on the face hereof or otherwise. 1.5."the Provider" means the education supplier. 1.6."the Services" means any services provided by the education supplier. GENERAL The only contractual terms that are binding on the supplier are those set out in this Agreement. FEES The fee charged for the goods and services to be provided to the customer are set out on the application form. The supplier reserves the right to vary any fee quoted either orally or in writing. The fee excludes GST unless specified. TERMS OF PAYMENT The customer will settle full fee payment prior to the goods and the services being made available. The supplier reserves the right to grant terms to approved customers upon such terms and conditions in its absolute discretion. All payments made by credit card have an additional surcharge applicable. COPYRIGHT The Diploma of Facilities Management has all rights reserved. REFUND/WITHDRAWAL To be eligible for a refund, customers must inform FMA Australia of your intention to withdraw from the course by requesting the Course Withdrawal Form. Any refund will be based on the number of units completed or commenced, against the total number purchased e.g. Payment has been received for all units (18). If you have completed or started a number of units (10). The balance owing will equate to the payment received (18), less the (10) ten units and the administration fee. An administration fee of $100 will be charged for processing. This will be taken from the balance owing. You must return any FMA Australia property you have in your possession. Withdrawal from a unit must be advised within the first 10 days of access to the course material. Refunds are only made to the original payer Credit Card payments will be refunded to the original credit card number only RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING Prior to claiming RPL the unit must be paid in advance. Claims will then be assessed by the education provider. PRIVACY Information collected during a student s enrolment and engagement will be used for the purposes of general student administration, identification, communication, state and national reporting, program monitoring, evaluation and surveys. 5
