Select a tray by clickig the Shake tab, Capture tab, or Edit tab. The Shake tray is for creatig a scee of approximately 30 secods log icludig backgroud music, usig clips o the Clip tray at radom. The Capture tray is provided for capturig images directly from the DV device or MICROMV device coected to your computer, ad importig them ito the Clip tray. The moitor displays the images recorded o the videotapes of the DV device or MICROMV device. The Edit tray is for processig scees. Click a scee o the Product tray, the it is displayed o the Edit tray. You ca add a effect to the scee by draggig the effect from the Effect tray ad/or the Text tray ad droppig it o the Edit tray. 3. Tool pael I the Tool pael, you will fid the Effect tray, Text tray, Trasitio tray, arratio tray ad Idex tray. Select a tray by clickig the Effect butto, Text butto, Trasitio butto, or arratio butto. Oly whe a MICROMV device has bee coected to your computer ad "MICROMV Device" has bee selected from the Device meu, the Idex tray appears while the Capture tray is displayed o the moitor pael. The Effect tray cotais various effects to be applied to a scee. The Text tray provides a tool for creatig a text effect to be applied to a scee. The Trasitio tray cotais various trasitio effects to be iserted betwee scees. The arratio tray provides a tool for recordig arratio to be iserted ito a movie. The Idex tray provides a tool for capturig images from a MICROMV device ad imports them ito the Clip tray. 4. Clip tray The Clip tray is provided for placig clips to be processed with MovieShaker. It ca cotai a movie file, still image ad/or soud files. 5. Product tray The Product tray is where you arrage clips to make a movie. I the Product tray, you will fid the Storyboard Display ad the Timelie Display. O the Storyboard, you ca easily arrage scees ad trasitios. O the Timelie, you ca arrage scees, trasitios, BGM, ad arratio, ad make fie adjustmets to the startig/edig poits ad duratio of scees, trasitios, BGM, ad arratio. 21

23 Soy applicatios About the software o your Soy VAIO Desktop Importig images ad soud clips To import images ad soud clips, proceed as follows: 1 Click the File import butto The Import dialog box appears. 2 Select the file you wat to add. 3 Click Ope. The file is added to the Clip tray. Importig files over 75 secods i legth may cause MovieShaker to stop respodig. To remove a clip from the Clip tray, drag it from the Clip tray ad drop it o the Trash ico. This oly removes the clip from the tray, the origial file is ot deleted. Creatig a movie After addig clip(s) to the Clip tray, you ca create a short movie usig the Shaker feature. Shaker radomly selects clips from the Clip tray to create a 30-secod scee. To create a movie, proceed as follows: 1 Click the Shake tab. 2 Select a mood by clickig a face i the Shaker tray. 3 Click the Shake butto. A thirty-secod scee is automatically geerated ad saved to the Product tray. To preview the created movie, proceed as follows: 1 Double-click the scee i the Product tray. 2 Press Play. Scees created with Shaker begi with a black frame. After processig, they are placed i the first available slot o the Product tray. Limit the umber of scees i the Product tray to 5 or less. MovieShaker may stop respodig if there are too may scees i the Product tray. 22

25 Soy applicatios About the software o your Soy VAIO Desktop To edit clips ad scees, proceed as follows: 1 Double-click the clip i the Clip tray to move it to the Moitor Pael. 2 Select the Effect tab from the Tool Pael. 3 Drag ad drop the effect you wat to add from the Effect tray to the Edit tray moitor. To preview a effect, click o the effect i the Effect tray. i the Workig Pael moitor. For istructios o adjustig effect duratio ad replayig clips or scees, see Help. Savig a movie You ca save or export your fial movie products. You ca preview ad check them before savig them. Your fial movie products ca be saved as files, exported to a DV device/micromv device, or uploaded to ImageStatio. To save your movie, proceed as follows: 1 Click the Export butto. The Export dialog box appears. 2 Select the format i which you wat the documet to be saved. 3 Click ext. 4 Locate the folder to which you wat the file saved. 5 ame the file. 6 Click Save. Your movie is saved. Exportig movies may take a log time to complete. Savig movies with DV (Digital Video) will provide better quality tha Quick-Save, but will take loger. MovieShaker ca play.avi files up to 65 MB i legth. For DV playback ad smooth video playback, we recommed the followig resolutio/refresh rates: 1024x768/75 Hz or lower. 24

After uploadig to ImageStatio, your fial movie products ca be show to family ad frieds via the Iteret. You ca set a password to prohibit uauthorized persos from viewig the movie. ImageStatio service is oly valid i some coutries. For your computer was purchased outside a valid area, you caot upload your fial movie products to ImageStatio. Set up the etwork settigs before usig ImageStatio service. For details, see the Operatig Istructios or the olie maual that came with your computer. To use ImageStatio service, register a user ame ad password via the website Whe you upload a file for the first time, the ImageStatio Registratio wizard appears. Follow the o-scree istructios to perform the registratio. 1 Click the Export butto. The Export dialog box appears. 2 Select Export to file. 3 Select MPEG1 (ImageStatio) from the list, ad the click ext. 4 Whe the cofirmatio dialog box appears, click Yes. The fial movie product is temporarily saved i the folder. A dialog box idicatig progress appears. If the process requires too much time, you ca cacel it. Whe savig is fiished, the Upload to ImageStatio dialog box appears. 5 Whe the Upload to ImageStatio dialog box appears, click OK. If you have already registered a user ame ad password for ImageStatio service, the ImageStatio logi widow is displayed. 6 Eter a user ame ad password, ad the click Logi. To chage the widow desig usig UI Desig Selector, proceed as follows: 1 Click Start, ad the click Cotrol Pael. 2 Select Appearace ad Themes, ad the Display. The UI Desig Selector dialog box appears. 3 Click << or >> ad select the desig you like. 4 Click Apply. The UI Desig Selector widow desig chages, to give you a preview of the desig you chose for the Soy software. 5 To try aother desig, click << or >>. 6 Click OK, oce you are satisfied with your choice. UI Desig Selector disappears ad chages the widow desig of your Soy software as you selected. 27 Startig your favourite software Usig shortcut keys The VAIO Actio Setup software eables you to start your favorite software by simply pressig a shortcut key (S Key). You ca also refer to the VAIO Actio Setup Help for more detailed iformatio o usig S Keys. 1 From the Start meu, select All Programs - VAIO Actio Setup - VAIO Actio Setup. The VAIO Actio Setup dialog box appears.

You ca use the iteral timer to start software at a specific time. The timer ca start applicatios eve whe the computer is i Hiberate mode. Usig i.lik You ca preset your i.lik -equipped devices to perform certai fuctios, such as automatically startig DVgate applicatios or coectig two VAIO computers. To preset your i.lik device to perform a certai fuctio, proceed as follows: 28 1 From the Start meu, select Programs - VAIO Actio Setup - VAIO Actio Setup. The ext time the device is coected ad tured o, the assiged applicatio is lauched automatically. Selectig display modes This desktop uses the Vidia GeForce2MX video cotroller. You ca select which display is used whe the computer is coected to a exteral display. Make sure your desktop is shut dow before you coect the exteral display to your desktop. If you coect the exteral display whe your desktop is active, you will ot be able to select a exteral display. 29 To select a display, proceed as follows: 1 Click the Start butto, ad the click Cotrol Pael. 32 Usig the product recovery CD-ROMs About the software o your Soy VAIO Desktop Usig the product recovery CD-ROMs The set of Product Recovery CD-ROMs supplied with your computer allow you to perform a full system recovery, help you to reistall idividual applicatios or the device drivers maually. The system recovery process allows you to reistall a image of the hard disk as it was before you started usig your desktop. Perform a System Recovery i the followig cases: I the evet of a serious system crash. If you wat to modify the size of your partitios. Perform a Applicatio Recovery whe you eed to: Reistall a idividual driver if a device is ot fuctioig properly. Reistall a idividual applicatio i the case you have problems ruig it. Performig a system recovery You are strogly advised to read the sectio Usig partitioed drives before decidig which optio to choose. Use this optio oly whe your system is seriously damaged, for example, if Widows does ot work ay loger, or your PC behaves abormally, etc. The system recovery will completely reistall the origially cofigured system o your C: drive. Your D: drive data will ot be deleted if you choose to keep the same partitio settigs. If you decide to modify the size of your partitios, the existig data o both drives (C: ad D:) will be deleted. However, we do recommed that you keep the curret partitio size. Whe performig a system recovery, you ca opt for a Stadard Recovery or a Advaced Recovery. Whe choosig a Stadard Recovery, you leave the curret partitio sizes utouched. Whe choosig a Advaced Recovery, you ca adapt the partitio sizes. 31

The recovery process ca last up to sixty miutes.! Applyig a system recovery meas that you will lose all your data stored o your C: drive (ad your D: drive if you modify partitio settigs).! Whe the recovery is performed, you must remove the recovery CD-ROM from the drive before restartig the computer. If the CD-ROM is still i the drive, you will restart a recovery process. Performig a stadard system recovery To perform a stadard system recovery, proceed as follows: 1 Take the system recovery CD-ROM. 2 Tur o your computer ad isert the system recovery CD-ROM i the CD-RW or DVD-ROM drive. 3 Shut dow your computer (Start/Tur off computer/tur off). 4 Wait te secods. 5 Tur your computer back o. 6 O the first scree that appears, press S (Stadard). Recoverig the system with modified partitio sizes. Abortig the recovery process. Recoverig the system without chagig partitios To recover the system without chagig partitios, proceed as follows: 1 Press C to keep your curret partitios. This is the recommeded optio if you do ot eed to modify the partitio sizes ad if you wat to restore your C: drive while keepig the data o your D: drive utouched. 2 Press G to proceed with the system recovery. 3 Follow the istructios o the scree. 4 Whe the recovery process is fiished, remove the product recovery CD-ROM from the drive. 5 Press ay key to restart your desktop. 33

Select this optio oly if you eed to chage the sizes of your partitios. 2 O the ext scree, press Y to cofirm the deletio of the curret partitios. The ext scree displays a selectio of sizes for your ew C: drive. Accordig to the optio you select, the recovery process will create 1 or 2 partitios o the hard disk. 3 Cofirm your selectio o the ext scree. 4 Wait util the ew partitios are created ad the desktop reboots. 5 Press G to proceed with the system recovery. 6 Follow the istructios o the scree. 7 Whe the recovery process is fiished, remove the product recovery CD-ROM from the drive. 8 Press ay key to restart your desktop.! Please ote that this optio will delete all existig data both o the C: ad D: drives before startig the recovery. 34 Abortig the recovery process The recovery process always wars you whe the decisio you are asked to take, caot be udoe. Wheever possible, the recovery screes allow you either to go back to the previous scree, or to abort the recovery process. Performig a applicatio recovery The applicatio recovery utility allows you to reistall idividual applicatios. Reistallig a program ca fix the problems ecoutered if it does ot ru correctly aymore. I most cases, you are advised to uistall a applicatio before reistallig it.

You must ru the last product recovery CD-ROM from Widows. The applicatio will ot ru from DOS. Whe performig a applicatio recovery, you do ot lose data o your hard disk. Reistallig a device driver Some applicatios or peripherals require specific drivers which you will ot fid i the Widows Driver cache folder. To help you fid or restore typical drivers eeded by your pre-istalled applicatios, you ca use the fial product recovery CD-ROM. 35 To reistall a device driver, proceed as follows: 1 First check whether the driver you wat to reistall is o the fial product recovery CD-ROM. Oly device drivers that are ot delivered with Widows ca be foud i the Drivers folder. 2 Check all uderlyig sub-directories for the appropriate driver. 3 ext, lauch ad follow the Add Hardware Wizard (click Start/Cotrol Pael/Performace ad Maiteace/System/Hardware/Add Hardware Wizard.) If you istalled a more recet driver you will get a warig message, i this case just igore the warig.

37 Usig partitioed drives About the software o your Soy VAIO Desktop Usig partitioed drives I My Computer or Widows Explorer, you may have oticed the availability of two drives (C: ad D:). Your hard disk drive comes from the factory with 2 logical partitios: this does ot mea that your computer cotais two physical hard disks. Whe you start usig your desktop, your C: drive cotais all the files required by Widows ad other preistalled software, while the D: drive is empty. The D: drive is the ideal storage space for all your documets ad files, especially big oes like digital motio pictures captured with DVgate. Although you ca perform a system recovery ad chage the partitio settigs i order to have oe C: drive oly, this optio is ot recommeded whe usig video editig applicatios like DVgate. To optimise data storage, use the C: drive to istall ew applicatios, ad save all your documets ad files to the D: drive. Moreover, doig so will prevet the loss of your data i the case you eed to perform a system recovery. Do ot try to add, delete, or resize partitios uless you really eed to. Chagig partitio settigs might delete all your files o the hard disk. If you eed to perform a system recovery, but do ot wat to lose all the data stored o your hard disk, copy all the files you wat to keep o the D: drive. Durig the system recovery process, choose to keep the curret partitio iformatio. Doig so will keep your D: drive uchaged after the recovery process. If you do eed to chage the size of your partitios, you ca do so by performig a system recovery. I this case, it is importat to be aware that all data o your hard disk will be deleted. If you eed to keep existig files, make sure you back them up before performig the system recovery. 36
