The 2014 Charter One Grwing Cmmunities Initiative was develped in partnership with Dwntwn Cleveland Alliance and Playhuse Square Abut the Dwntwn Cleveland Alliance Dwntwn Cleveland Alliance is the nt-fr-prfit rganizatin dedicated t building a mre dynamic dwntwn. It is cmmitted t making dwntwn Cleveland the mst cmpelling place t live, wrk, play in the regin. Abut Dwntwn Cleveland and the Playhuse Square Dwntwn Cleveland is in the midst f experiencing ver $4.5 billin in develpment. Hme t ver 120,000 ffice wrkers, 60 businesses cmmitting 6,000 jbs have mved int Dwntwn Cleveland ver the last three years. The dwntwn residential scene is als bming with ver 12,000 residents. In 2013 the ffice vacancy rate in Dwntwn Cleveland decreased t 18 percent and apartment ccupancy increased t 97%. Attractins like PlayhuseSquare, the Rck & Rll Hall f Fame and Museum, Medical Mart & Cnventin Center, and the Hrseshe Casin bring ver 10 millin annual visitrs t Dwntwn Cleveland.

2 This grwth in the dwntwn ffice and residential markets is driving demand fr increased retail amenities. In 2013 alne, 46 new retail stres and restaurants pened Dwntwn, with a heavy emphasis n hmegrwn, Cleveland-wned businesses. In additin, grcers like Cnstantin s Market in the Warehuse District, Simply Fd in Reserve Square and the annunced Heinen s in the Gateway District meet the daily needs f dwntwn residents. As the cuntry s largest perfrming arts center utside f New Yrk, Playhuse Square, the nt-frprfit perfrming arts center utilizes the arts t engage individuals and attract ver ne millin guests per year t its 1,000+ annual events. These audiences act as the catalyst fr ecnmic grwth and vitality within the regin. With $16 millin invested in streetscape imprvements in the Playhuse Square district alne, the walkability f the district is at a level never befre seen in Cleveland. Eligible Applicants Dwntwn Cleveland Alliance seeks prpsals frm retail businesses that will add amenities t the Playhuse Square residents, wrkers and visitrs. Fd-based, service, sft gds, apparel, and ther traditinal retail cncepts are eligible t apply. Preference will be given t lcally wned and perated businesses. A business may apply fr nly ne grant at a time and businesses may receive nly ne grant within a ne-year time perid. Eligible Uses f Grant Funds Cmpetitin winners may utilize funds fr the payment f rent fr ne year fllwing the discunted rent prvided by Playhuse Square; the purchase f fixtures and equipment necessary fr business peratin, r tenant imprvements abve and beynd imprvements prvided by the landlrd. The use f grant funds is limited t special circumstances fr cmputers, technlgy devices, and ther equipment nt affixed t the prperty. Any request submitted fr funds t be utilized fr purchase f equipment must be accmpanied by cut sheets and price qutes fr equipment. Requests fr funds t be utilized fr rent payments r build ut must be accmpanied by qutes by a representative f Playhuse Square Real Estate fr a specific space. An ideal candidate will have a strng business plan, prven track recrd, and financing plan. The financing plan shuld demnstrate the ability t mve frward with r withut the grant prceeds, including cmmitted and ptential surces f financing. Grant Amunts Depending n financial need and the number f recipients, the cmpetitin will award winning small businesses with grants ranging frm $1,500 t $20,000. Playhuse Square Real Estate will als prvide discunted rent and assistance with tenant imprvements, including signage. In additin, recipients will als receive a cmplimentary ne year membership t Dwntwn Cleveland Alliance. Recipients may als be eligible fr the City f Cleveland s Neighbrhd Retail Assistance Prgram, which makes small, partially frgivable lans, f up t $40,000 available t businesses that lcate in the retail spaces in Playhuse Square. 3 At least 6 retail spaces ranging frm 500 square feet t ver 3,000 square feet will be available in the Hanna and Keith Buildings. Grant Timeline The Charter One Grwing Cmmunities Initiative 2014 Playhuse Square Retail Develpment Cmpetitin begins Mnday, April 21 st 2014 and runs thrugh May 16 th, Applicatins must be received by 5:00 PM n May 16 th, 2014 t be eligible.
