1 Envision Visual Arts (EVA) Classes Drawing and Design is the foundation course for all other Digital and Fine Art courses, and is a wonderful class for those just getting starting in arts classes or for someone who would like to push themselves in the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Students will develop their observational drawing skills (line, value, and still life drawing), learn about color theory and apply it to creating expressive paintings through varied painting techniques, learn about perspective in order to create depth and space in their art, and learn the basics of portrait and full figure drawing. Additional unique and exciting projects may be done to help develop fundamental concepts of art.

2 Fine Art Digital Photography is a traditional art class where the tools are different: instead of canvas and paint, we use cameras, computers, software programs, and printers. The class emphasizes technical proficiency as well as artistic expression through a variety of assignments. Students receive peer and instructor critiques to improve their pieces throughout the term. Imaging In this project- based introductory course, students who want to learn the in s & out s of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator will learn a broad set of skills in BOTH programs while maintaining a fine arts approach and focus. They will also be challenged to develop individual creativity & personal expression. Through exercises and projects, students investigate current trends in design and careers in technology as they explore innovative and conceptual approaches to art- making. Time will also be dedicated to discussions on copyright issues and the ethics of working in Photoshop ( photoshopping images, using images off of the internet, etc).projects include pattern creation, photo compositing and manipulation, digital drawing and painting, typography and logo design, and vector illustration. This course requires a very strong work ethic in class. There is very little homework and all the computer work is done during class, so it is imperative that the student can stay focused during class time. Students will be introduced to important contemporary artists, and also be challenged to participate in peer assessments and critiques throughout the course. Drawing & Design or Photography HIGHLY recommended before taking this course.

3 PAINTING: Students experiment with many different paints, such as watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media to create projects based on a variety of topics utilizing several techniques. Learn traditional and non traditional methods of painting, as well as create your own independent project. We also use screen printing to design your own t- shirts and end the class with a group project painting the trash cans on campus. Sculpture is an art class that explores 3D forms and focuses on creating work in various related techniques and processes, including assembling, modeling, molding, carving, and throwing on the wheel. Projects include clay forms such as boxes, mugs, bowls, teapots- all items you can use! Projects also include puppetry and installation art. You will create three- dimensional sculptures in a variety of materials including, but not limited to, paper, clay, plaster, and wood.

4 Advanced Drawing: In this project- based course, students who enjoyed Drawing & Design will really be able to get their hands dirty and continue an in- depth, intensive study of drawing and art- making. The first half of the semester will focus on skills & techniques. Students will learn how to work with new materials & surfaces (such charcoal, ink, layered colored pencil, tinted paper, and experimental surfaces). They will also work on mastering observational (representative) drawing skills, problem solving artistic outcomes, and putting together successful compositions while also learning the practical skills of setting up still lives, lighting objects and people, and photographing their own references/subjects/figures. In the second half of the term, students will focus on making a cohesive body of work (of their own choosing and based on their personal interests) that displays their knowledge of the skills learned. Students will be introduced to important contemporary artists, and also be challenged to participate in peer assessments, presentations, and critiques throughout the course, as well as visit galleries and museums. Requirement: Students MUST take Drawing and Design (at a minimum) before taking this course. Advanced Digital Imaging: In this project- based course, students who enjoyed Imaging will be able to build on the knowledge they've learned and continue an in- depth, intensive study of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. More time will be dedicated to Illustrator in this class, with actual career- based projects dealing with typography, layout/poster design, infographics, and logo design/branding/packaging. Advanced concepts in digital drawing/painting will be covered in Photoshop. The first half of the semester will focus on skills & techniques in both programs. Students will also work on problem solving artistic outcomes and furthering their understanding of their own individual creativity & personal expression. In the second half of the term, students choose individual concentrations (small bodies of artwork based on personal interests in life and design) and build a portfolio of 4 pieces that displays their knowledge of the skills learned. This course requires a very strong work ethic in class. There is very little homework and all the computer work is done during class, so it is imperative that the student can stay focused

5 during class time. Students will be introduced to important contemporary artists, and also be challenged to participate in peer assessments, presentations, and critiques throughout the course. Requirement: Students MUST take Imaging (at a minimum) before taking this course. General computer experience is a prerequisite, and prior knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is required. Advanced Fine Art Digital Photography is designed for students who loved their experience in the beginning Fine Art Digital Photography and would like to challenge themselves with a MUCH more advanced study in the art of digital photography. The emphasis is on approaching the world of photography as a means of artistic expression; students who have nothing to "say" artistically will have a very difficult time in this class. In this advanced class, students will be concentrating on producing a "body of photography work" that represents their own artistic vision.

6 Advanced Sculpture is designed to continue an in depth, intensive study of three dimensional art, while practicing and mastering techniques and concepts. You take many of the skills learned in beginning Sculpture and apply them to a higher skill level. Projects have included Fimo clay miniatures (to hone your detailing skills), advanced wheel techniques, functional light sculptures, and a series of your choice. The first half of the term focuses on learning and demonstrating understanding of advanced skills in sculpture. The second half of the term focuses on making a cohesive body of work that lets you show off your art skills in a 3D media of your choice. PHOTO Imaging is taught as an advanced course where students take the lessons of the Fine Art Digital Photography and apply them to a commercial curriculum. Specific assignments include: Portraits, Advertisements, Fashion, Product, as well as Promotional posters and images. Emphasis is on producing work that is ready to be used in real commercial situations. Students create a working portfolio that they would proudly present to a future employer. SEMINAR IN ART- This course is designed to give students the opportunity to refine their own artwork, called a "Body of Work". Seminar in Art is for students who would like to take a focused independent study format in art. Drawing, painting, and/or mixed media can be chosen as a means to create their "Body of Work", which consists of 12 pieces of work for the entire semester. The importance of art in our daily lives and its career potential is highlighted through outside contacts such as college visitations, guest artists, gallery/museum visits, and studio visits. This class is helpful for students interested in taking AP 2D/AP Drawing or any student who has had at least 2 courses in visual art at CCA and wants less teacher- directed projects and more individual work time. NOTE: Seminar in Art does not provide AP credit or weight but is UC Approved and those wanting to work digitally should have their own laptop with programs.

7 AP 2- D provides an environment for the dedicated art student to create a college- level, 2 dimensional portfolio, or a body of work that shows quality, concentration, and depth. This portfolio is intended to address two- dimensional design issues. For this portfolio, students are asked to demonstrate mastery of 2- D design through any 2 dimensional medium or process. While the goal of the course is for each student to develop an individualized concentration in 2- D design, the ultimate goal is to submit a portfolio to the College Board for review and advanced placement and/or college credit at many colleges and universities. For the Breadth section, you will be guided in your projects to learn a variety of different techniques in 2D media, including printmaking and mixed media. In the Concentration section you will explore an idea and a media of your choice to create a series that follows a theme. 8 AP Drawing provides an environment for the dedicated art student to create a college- level, drawing portfolio, or a body of work that shows quality, concentration, and depth. This portfolio is explores drawing issues including line quality, light and shade, rendering of form, composition, surface manipulation, the illusion of depth and mark- making through a variety of means, such as painting, printmaking or mixed media. For this portfolio, students are asked to demonstrate mastery of drawing concepts through most media or processes. While the goal of the course is for each student to develop an individualized concentration, the ultimate goal is to submit a portfolio to the College Board for review and advanced placement and/or college credit at many colleges and universities. For the Breadth section, you will be guided in your projects to learn a variety of different techniques, including printmaking and mixed media. In the Concentration section you will explore an idea and a media of your choice to create a series that follows a theme. For more information, please explore the College Board site s for studio- art- drawing AP ART HISTORY- AP Art History is an art course designed to provide high school students with the benefits of an introductory college course in Art History. Students will explore European Art (Ancient Greek- Renaissance to Contemporary Art), Oceanic, African, Islamic Asian, Eastern, and American art within a social, historical, and cultural context. We will spend most of the time in class analyzing examples of architecture, sculpture, painting, and etc. In addition, we will create art based on our study of art history after the exam (no skills needed!) and participate in Pageant of the Ravens, and make a visit to a local art museum. Students who pass the AP Art History exam may earn advanced placement and/or credit at many colleges and universities. As an added bonus, the College Board has revised the exam for 2016 and will only require 250 pieces of artwork instead of 800 images like previous years! J
