3 LEIGH SQUARE COMMUNITY ARTS VILLAGE The Leigh Square Community Arts Village is dedicated to encouraging and facilitating community development through arts, culture and heritage by creating a visible presence for community cultural activities within Port Coquitlam and enlivening the downtown core. The Arts Village is home to public exhibitions, programs, special events, music, visual arts, workshops and festivals throughout the year. 3

4 Field Trips & Outreach Programs The visual and performing arts play a vital role in the development and learning of children from preschool all the way through high school. Leigh Square is committed to providing quality art education for students of all ages and backgrounds, and believes that the arts enhance children s appreciation and understanding of the world around them. Our goal is to enrich students comprehension of organizational principles, perceptions and art techniques through our field trips and outreach programs. Field trips at Leigh Square give students the ability to collaborate and think creatively to express their ideas through drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, performance and other mediums. The school field trips are planned in conjunction with the current art exhibitions at Leigh Square and will offer an educational gallery tour, as well as studio related art activities based on BC Education s Fine Arts IRP s. Students will experiment with paints, textiles, clay, paper, and mixed media to create themes based on culture, diversity, respect, recycling, geometry, math, personal identity, selfawareness, vocabulary, and community. Outreach programs are also available as an alternative to field trips if resources are limited. An experienced art instructor is available to come to your school to teach an arts program based on the school curriculum. Field trips and outreach programs typically run hours depending on the grade level and chosen program. We look forward to working with your school this year! 4
