3 Introduction In general Address assignment Adaptation to changed rooms The instabus EIB is a distributed data bus system for flexible service management in functional and residential buildings. Every storey, every room is individually supplied according to its requirements and conditions with the optimum electrical power for the respective time of day. This new technology revolutionizes electrical installation, is easy to comprehend and easy to implement. It saves time because planning is PC-based and much fewer leads must be laid during installation. As all components are optimally matched to one another, buildings with an instabus EIB installation consume considerably fewer resources and thus work more economically as traditional systems. What is more, the system can be quickly and easily adapted when the layout of the room changes by simply reassigning devices and components. Every bus station is provided with a teaching button with an LED at its coupler. When this button is pressed, the physical address sent by the PC is applied and acknowledged. Functional interaction is reached by allocating the group address. This address is sent by the sensor together with the telegram and is received by all bus couplers with the same group address. The time load on the bus line is very low here. With event-controlled transmission a signal is only sent when a sensor is actuated, so the bus line is used only for a short time. It is especially relevant for functional buildings that a displacement of partition walls, which is often necessary there for organizational reasons, does not require the removal or a new laying of leads. By means of a PC, the sensors and actuators can be assigned new group addresses that correspond to the new room layout, e.g. relations between light switches and lamps, from anywhere in the bus network. How does the instabus EIB work? All switches, pushbuttons and controls (sensors) are connected to the bus line by bus couplers. The bus line is a twowire MSR lead that runs through the whole building. If a pushbutton is actuated for example, a command telegram with a specific address goes on the bus line. The addressed actuators (relays, contactors, binary outputs, etc.) that are also connected to the bus line via their bus couplers receive the commands, but only those actuators or that actuator group will be activated which have been specified in the telegram address. So it is a prerequisite that all sensors and actuators obtain a physical address. Thus they can receive all further inputs like group addresses and parameters and can also be queried specifically, e.g. in the line of diagnostics during maintenance. 5 instabus EIB Compact Panel instabus EIB Compact Panel The instabus EIB compact panel is a space-saving and especially costeffective variant for starting with building services management systems. Especially the extremely short setting-up time has to be mentioned as an advantage. The compact panel can be used as an experimenter console or as an insert for the DIN A4 experimental racks. It consists of the following components: 1 line power supply unit (type with 640 ma) including reactor 1 RS 232 interface 1 binary input, 4-fold 1 binary output, 4-fold 1 scenic module Room lighting simulation consisting of 4 incandescent lamps and pluggable partition walls for a fast change of the room layout. All connections brought out to 4-mm safety lab sockets. Included are: 1 mains connecting lead 4 incandescent lamps 1 connecting lead PC - RS fold pushbutton with separate bus coupler 1 top-hat rail with integrated data bus In order to facilitate the connection of further modules it is possible to connect these via a Phoenix plug connection. 6 instabus EIB Rack Version instabus EIB Experimental Rack In the left part of the unit 2 top-hat rails are mounted behind a transparent plastic cover. Into these top-hat rails instabus EIB data busses are glued. The following instabus EIB components have been snapped onto the first rail: 1 line power supply unit 1 reactor 1 binary output, 2-fold 1 binary output, 4-fold 2 connectors On the second top-hat rail 9 additional modular spacings can be equipped as desired. By the connectors, the bus is wired to 2-mm sockets and is transferred from there via plug-in connectors to all bus stations on the control panels. By using 2-mm sockets as an open interface further external bus stations may be connected easily. The following instabus EIB components are built into the control panels: 1 RS 232 interface 1 pushbutton, 2-fold 1 pushbutton, 4-fold The contacts of the binary outputs are wired to 4-mm safety lab sockets. Furthermore, 2 panels with 3 lamps each have been incorporated. Owing to the unchanging grid the individual panels are easily interchangeable. By a sideways attached mains plug with fine wire fuse and switch, the mains voltage is led internally to safety lab sockets. These sockets are designated L1 or N and PE. A glow lamp indicates the socket for L1. Included are: 1 mains connecting lead 1 short description 6 glow lamps, 230 V 1 connecting lead PC RS 232 Order-No. W4006 1A 10
7 instabus EIB Experimenter with Simulator instabus EIB Experimenter The instabus EIB experimenter is integrated in a sturdy case with a powdered look in anthracite. The main parts of the case are black ABS plates with two locks. The lid can be detached and is fitted with a carrying handle. The following instabus EIB components are integrated in the case bottom: 1 power supply unit (type with 640 ma) 1 RS 232 interface 2 binary output, 2-fold 1 binary input, 4-fold 2 bus coupler 1 time switch, dual-channel 1 twilight detector 1 switching/dimming actuator 1 Venetian blind switch By connectors the bus is wired to all bus stations. By using 2-mm sockets as an open bus interface further external bus stations may be connected easily. Into the control panel the following elements have been incorporated: 1 pushbutton, 1-fold 1 pushbutton, 2-fold 1 pushbutton, 4-fold 1 temperature controller 1 display unit 5 bus coupler 1 motion detector The detachable lid of the ready-touse instabus EIB experimenter houses two simulation modules for learning the basic possibilities of the building services management system by way of experiments. Room lighting simulation On the simulation panel a storey of a building with several rooms including corridor and staircase is represented. The partition walls are pluggable permitting the simulation of changes in the room in an easy manner. All 8 incandescent lamps (E14) can be connected to the respective actuator using safety lab sockets. To allow a better overview, N and PE are already wired internally. Venetian blind simulation with LED The Venetian blind simulation shows the position of the blind by an LED strip indicator and the blind strip position by single LEDs. The contacts of the binary outputs are wired to 4-mm safety lab sockets. By a sideways attached mains plug with fine wire fuse and switch, the mains voltage is led internally to safety lab sockets. 8 instabus EIB Experimental Panels Experimenter panels in general: The experimental panels are made from plastic. The color is white similar to RAL They are 297 mm high (DIN A4) and about 5 mm thick. The width is 130 mm or has been expanded by integer multiples of 65 mm. On the back the experimental panels have hoods out of transparent plastic. The devices and components are built into the panels or mounted on the back. The transfer of the bus signals is implemented by female 2-mm connectors. All terminals for the mains voltage are wired to 4-mm safety lab sockets. The simulation panels are supplied with voltage via the bus. The mimic diagrams, device symbols and labels are permanently attached to the panel fronts according to the prevailing standards. 12

14 Introduction to Powernet EIB In general Up to now one has always assumed that apart from the power line a bus line is necessary, too, for transmitting information. That conception had a lot of advantages. It was no longer necessary to lay an immeasurable number of control leads, flexibility was increased and with a separate bus and power line susceptibility to interference was reduced to a minimum. In residential building and for existing facilities it is often desirable, how ever, to install EIB devices without having to lay new leads. This is possible with the Powernet EIB. It is no longer necessary to lay a separate bus line. Topology The topology is different from the conventional EIB topology. As all Powernet EIB devices are connected via the 230-V installation network with balanced link access, the typical distribution by lines and area couplers does not apply. In order to maintain a structural overview in the case of extensive sytems, a logical Data transmission takes place via the available 230-V installation network. Only a neutral and an outside conductor must be present in the branching box. The basic idea was the network bus X-10, which has been known for years. The corresponding technology has been changed fundamentally for the Powernet EIB, however, so that the only thing in common between the network bus X-10 and Powernet EIB is the transmission of control signals via the existing 230/400-V network. For example, a new transmission procedure called SFSK (Spread Frequency Shift Keying) is used. arrangement with lines and areas is recommendable here too though. Apart from the topological limits (4096 devices in one configuration area), the following physical limitations additionally apply in practice: This new transmission procedure stands out due to its high reliability for all network conditions. The remarkable thing about it is that the signals are transmitted via two separate frequencies. By a pattern comparison and an intelligent correction procedure a signal received can be corrected even in the event of trouble. A faultless telegram transmission is confirmed by a message from the receiver to the transmitter. Thus the transmission process is complete. If a transmitter does not receive a response, it repeats the transmission. The transfer rate is 1200 bits/s, a complete transmission lasts approx. 130 ms. - no operation beyond a transformer station, - no operation in networks with different network parameters or tolerances (e.g. 110 V/60 Hz), - no operation in networks with devices that have no proper interference suppression. Devices The devices of the Powernet EIB system have a similar design as the conventional EIB devices and are provided with the standard applications. They are programmed and operated with the EIB Tool Software from version 2.1 up. The scope of application is analogous to the fields where the EIB is used: Power management Demand-specific lighting Venetian blind control Signaling functions Single-room heating control and analog value transmission So, Powernet EIB is a supplementary technology for the EIB suitable for buildings and facilities where a laying of bus cables is not desired or not possible. The Powernet EIB facilitates EIB installation in residential building and a retrofitting of existing buildings with EIB. WUEKRO experimental panels The electrical engineer/electrician is more and more confronted with the subject Powernet EIB in his daily work. Comprehensive training or education is the foundation for later competitiveness. The experimental panels developed by WUEKRO can be used as supplements to the instabus EIB experimental panels. Both bus technologies can be connected using a media coupler. It is also possible, however, to set up and parameterize independent Powernet EIB systems. 4
