Today, we are all operating globally and enterprises are facing a number of new challenges. ECTA, the European Cutting Tools Association, brings together the stakeholders in the European Cutting Tool Industry. With more than 40 years of diligent, effective and valuable work, ECTA has become one of the major forums in which manufacturers of cutting tools and holding fixtures can consult with each other and share concerns and ideas. 5 YOUR ECTA CONFERENCE SPEAKERS Andrea Boltho Oxford Economics Educated in Italy and at the Universities of London (LSE), Paris and Oxford. From 1966 to 1977 at the OECD s Department of Economics and Statistics. In Japan Foundation Fellow at the Research Institute of the Economic Planning Agency, Tokyo. From 1977 to 2007, Fellow and Tutor in Economics at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. Since 2008 Emeritus Fellow. At various stages, consultant to the World Bank, the OECD and member of the Academic Council of the IFO Institute, Munich, as well as Visiting Professor in various European universities. Has been a Member of the Board of Finmeccanica, is a Director of Oxford Economics and has lectured on world and European economic developments to various private sector corporations, including ABB, Anglo American, Arthur Andersen, FIAT, Ericsson, Generali, IBM, KPMG, Pirelli, Siemens, Stora Enso, Volvo, etc. Dr Palie Smart Reader in Corporate Responsibility Policy, Sustainability and Performance, Cranfield University, School of Management Dr Smart is an expert in Management, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, Innovation and Operations Management. Her talk will discuss the management challenges for manufacturers pursuing transitions to deliver higher value. The notion of value will be considered in the context of business model innovation and, in doing so, future ideas for sustainable manufacturing businesses will be envisioned. Dr Smart s research interests are positioned within the broader field of innovation and technology management, and more recently have encompassed responsible innovation and entrepreneurship. She has industrial experience in the manufacturing and professional services sectors at Racal Defence and Electronic Data Processing plc. Her earlier research focused on open innovation and science, innovation networks, national innovation systems and intrapreneurship for social and discontinuous innovation. Chris Wilson Managing Director & Vice President Production, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty UK, Safran Group Chris Wilson joined Messier-Dowty in 1999 and has held various roles including setting in place the extended Global Value Stream for the Messier-Dowty B787program. He is now based in Gloucester and is responsible for the complete production operation inclusive of the supply chain for delivering complete Main Landing gear systems to its prime customers including the delivery of the Truck module assembly on the B787 program. Since 2011, he has combined this with the role of Managing Director of the Gloucester site. Chris Wilson has more than 33 years experience in Aerospace, beginning his career with Smiths Industries Ltd (now GE Aviation) in 1980 within the Flight Controls division. While at Smiths he was instrumental in implementing new production technologies and driving Lean improvement processes to support a range of Boeing and Airbus platforms. Chris holds a Masters degree in Project Management from Lancaster University England, is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical society and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors. Chris is the current Chairman of WEAF, the West of England Aerospace Forum; sits on the Systems and Equipment Committee of ADS, the sector s Trade Association and is a Board member of the Aerospace Growth Partnership, a Government/Industry collaborative partnership.
