1 Agreed Job Description and Person Specification Job Title: Head of Marketing and Communications Line Manager: Development Director Professionally accountable to: Executive Job Purpose To lead and manage the implementation of a marketing and communications strategy for St Margaret s Hospice, ensuring the strategy will raise awareness of the organisation and support income generation objectives. In line with the above, advise on marketing developments to contribute to the Hospice becoming one of the most successful regionally and nationally. To be operationally active in all aspects of marketing and communications. To protect the interests of patients and carers at all times To be responsible for all output of the Marketing Department. To line manage the Marketing Team. Responsibilities Brand management Act as brand guardian for the organisation, promoting effective use of the St Margaret s Hospice identity both internally and externally. Be responsible for all creative output through effective management of designers and creative agencies. Develop the St Margaret s Hospice brand to support our strategic plans. Digital communications Responsibility for all digital communications through management of the Digital Marketing Coordinator role, including: o Development of the St Margaret s Hospice website o Social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter etc. o marketing o Intranet Internal communications Develop and maintain a series of regular internal communications, ensuring staff and volunteers are kept aware of new developments and messaging. Review and revise operational plan and Performance Indicators Manage the marketing budget. Attend and actively contribute to regular operational reviews. Manage, monitor and report on the overall marketing budget.
2 Strategic research Specify and manage the critical market research required to inform the strategic marketing plan and the strategy for the Hospice. Support the Development Director in creating the Hospice s Marketing Strategy. Commission marketing research. Identify and undertake internal desk research. Report on trends and forecasts. Develop Policy. Report on competitor information. Corporate Public Relations Protect and enhance the Hospice s public image through proactive media relations. Focus on key stakeholder messaging through detailed communications planning. Identify and react to national picture and competitor information. New Marketing Developments Work to bring new marketing developments into marketing planning and thinking within team and with internal stakeholders. Maximising whole Hospice promotion at all opportunities Corporate Communications. Brand image. Internal communications. External communications. Web sites. Communication and people skills Working with others Provide strategic marketing advice and support to the heads of retail and fundraising, clinical teams and corporate areas. To work closely with the head of volunteering to maximise PR opportunities online and offline. Team management To line manage the marketing team, providing effective leadership and direction. A & C Professional qualification in Marketing. A & C CIM Diploma. IDM Diploma. ECDL or equivalent. Previous Experience Substantial experience in marketing or similar field in a charity, education, the public sector or private enterprise. Dealing with a wide range of commercial business professionals as customers. A & I Experience of working within the charity sector.
