2 C7064 PO 3-6 Data Forensic Team Leader Role Profile To supervise and manage the Data Investigation Team in their examination of electronic devices in all levels of crime involving IT and the Internet. To take responsibility for the management of the technical investigation including securing and retrieving data from seized computer systems, attending searches where necessary and producing technical documentation in relation to data retrieved from computers and media. Main Responsibilities To manage and coordinate the work schedules of the Data Investigations team. To supervise short and medium term objectives, developing plans and regularly assessing the performance of the team and individuals. Responsible for the maintaining of policy and procedure in line with legislation and best evidential practices and manage reputational risk where appropriate. To provide 'expert' status statements and technical reports for the investigative process and to attend court when required. To provide expert advice and support to Digital Media investigators in the technical and practical options in securiing digital evidence from all forms of investigations that involve a digital element. To provide specialist advice and knowledge to colleagues, partners and other individuals and agencies. To be responsible for the management and control of dedicated servers. To evaluate and validate software tools used in the examination and recovery of data. Where necessary, develop specific searching scripts within these tools to assist the process. Carry out examination of recovered evidence in accordance with health and safety, legal and other organisational requirements. To give presentations and support training initiatives to promote the unit. To provide specialist advice and assistance. Assess and manage the training requirements of the Data Forensic staff. Research and report on new techniques, software, systems and technology to ensure departmental effectiveness. Prepare for and actively contribute within meetings in a clear concise and relevant manner, ensuring decisions and actions are communicated to appropriate personnel. To advise Senior Investigating Officers on specialist matters relating to the handling of digital evidence from computers and mobile devices. Specifically relating to recover, analysis, intelligence development, retention, scheduling, disclsoure of material and the protection of evidential packages. 4 Supervisory Responsibility Manual handling and movement of hardware and consumables Experience and Qualifications The postholder will have a relevant degree, professional qualifications or equivalent and extensive experience as a Digital Forensics Investigator or in an investigative role involving digital evidence or IT. The postholder will have an excellent understanding of the Windows Operating system file directory structures, file management and applications software (including Word and Excel). Also essential is a good knowledge and understanding of ACPO guidelines in relation to seizure of exhibits, scene management and recovery of data from mobile phones, together with a knowledge of relevant statutes and police powers. The ability to work in stressful situations and operate on own initative or as part of a team is also essential. The postholder will have excellent organisational skills, including the prioritisation of workloads. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are also essential. Previous experience in a supervisory role is also essential, together with previous experience in a similar role in a data investigation environment. The postholder will have a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the region by other means. Knowledge and experience in certification and accreditation standards would be advantageous. This post has been designated as requiring the following vetting levels in accordance with the National Vetting Policy - Police Recruitment Vetting (RV).
