3 We welcome you to register for this prestigious 5-a-side corporate football tournament on Sunday 15 March This special event is split into two parts: : Young people The morning session invites local youth groups to participate in a 5-a-side football tournament as well as undertake anti-racism workshops, delivered by our charity partner Show Racism the Red Card. Watford FC s SCE Trust will be running skills sessions throughout the morning. Youth groups will be identified by the event partners : Corporate 5-a-side The afternoon session is a corporate tournament with 48 teams (please note: over 18 s only), at the same venue. The 5-a-side will raise funds for Hilton in the Commuinity Foundation and Show Racism the Red Card. With a unique collection of partners and sponsors, and with your participation, together we can make a real impact on social cohesion, using football as a tool for positive engagement. 5 Event partners Power League Power League has subsidised the event by reducing their costs to run the Tournament. They are kindly providing: all pitches; referees; balls and bibs; trophies and medals; exclusive use of the centre and facilities; access to database for promotion; and event management. Watford Football Club Watford FC has donated their Community Trust team, provided access to their players and promotion at the grounds. Hilton Hotels Hilton Hotels has provided the catering, volunteers to help run the event, participants, promotion avenues, corporate sponsorship and prizes. Show Racism the Red Card SRTRC will implement the youth workshops and provide materials for anti-racism activities as well as provide access to footballers, prizes and merchandising. Hilton in the Community Foundation HCF, the official charity of Hilton Hotels, has led the development of the Tournament and have provided administrative oversight for the event.

6 More than football Through your participation and financial support, the anti-racism tournament will use the empowerment of football and the appeal of professional clubs to: Prevent and reduce racism in schools Promote respect amongst communities and bringing people together through football Encourage personal development through participation, volunteering, training and mentoring Provide positive role models professional footballers, corporate volunteers and metropolitan police officers Encourage interaction of youth groups and ethnic groups Promote charity engagement Build a legacy for community engagement Break down barriers between the police and young people in a non-confrontational manner Reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the targeted neighbourhoods Support school officers in reinforcing messages about social exclusion, gang membership, alcohol and drugs misuse, possession of weapons and staying involved in education Build self-esteem of participants

7 The Hilton Charity Cup is being held in support of two charities, Hilton in the Community Foundation and Show Racism the Red Card. Hilton in the Community Foundation Hilton in the Community Foundation is committed to supporting those most in need to have a brighter future. Focusing on children and young people up to the age of 25, the Foundation supports activities in health and education that relieve suffering and equip individuals for the future. At times of natural disaster, the Foundation quickly responds to support youth projects in affected areas. Under the banner Supporting Young People Worldwide, the Foundation is dedicated to making a real difference to those most in need, wherever Hilton operates. Thanks to the support that we receive from Hilton, all central administration costs are funded, so every net 1 or 1 raised goes directly to charitable causes. All beneficiary charities must meet one of our chosen areas of focus: Young people and education Young people and health Young people affected by disasters Within these areas of need, the Foundation has a special focus on: Disabled children Homelessness Life-limited children in hospices Children in hospital Thanks to everybody s help, the Foundation has grown to award over 1 million in grants annually. Since 2005, HCF has donated nearly 100,000 to Show Racism the Red Card for its annual anti-racism in schools competition and for its campaign DVD. The Foundation is proud to support this vital awareness work. The Hilton Charity Cup pilot is about providing opportunities for young people. We are looking forward to developing the programme of 5-a-side tournaments and workshops in 32 London Boroughs.

8 Show Racism the Red Card Show Racism the Red Card was established in 1996 with the aim of harnessing the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism in society We produce a range of educational tools and resources using this theme and we have also expanded to use other role models, predominantly from a sporting background. Show racism the red card aims to combat racism through anti-racist education. We believe that one of the best ways of changing racist attitudes is for role models to engage with people on the issues. Our educational resources are highly acclaimed and have been used by thousands of schools and other organisations. All of our films are accompanied by comprehensive education packs containing a wide variety of activities and discussion points. In addition to the main Show Racism the Red Card DVD, we have developed resources to tackle prejudices towards asylum seekers and to challenge Islamophobia. The campaign also delivers a whole series of actions to combat racism: Our community education teams in the North East of England, Wales and Scotland deliver anti-racist workshops and organise community initiatives against racism. We host events at football clubs throughout the UK where local school pupils are able to come and discuss the subject of racism with their favourite players. Each October we hold an annual fortnight of action in Scotland. This period of concerted action encourages participation from all sections of Scotland s communities to celebrate diversity and tackle racism. I think the most important thing is to be able to work together, to understand what a person likes, what they don t like, and you respect their decision. 10 Watford Football Club s Community Sports and Education Trust Watford FC s Community Sports and Education Trust is a registered charity (Charity No: ), having gained charitable status in April Due to the success and popularity of the Trust s work it now employs twenty full time staff and in excess of fifty sessional staff. This has enabled the Trust to strengthen and broaden its partnerships with a wide variety of individuals and organisations. The Trust currently runs activity programmes within Hertfordshire and its surrounding areas, as well as in the London Boroughs of Harrow and Hillingdon. With a dedicated, committed and extremely passionate team of staff the Trust is able to not only develop a wide range of creative projects but also deliver them to a high quality. As a Trust we currently focus on four key themes which are Sports Participation, Social Inclusion, Health and Education. Each of our community projects and activities fits under one of these themes or cuts across a number of them. In addition to this we are also involved in and are able to help organisations who are developing local community facilities. Although we have traditionally been seen as a purely football provider, this is certainly no longer the case. Major accomplishments over the past three years include Community Club of the Year 2008, double Sportsmatch Award winner, Crimebeat Awards 2008 (Positive Futures), Services to Sport in Harrow and a commendation for bridging cultures. 16 Racism is something created and anything that has been created can be undone. Those of us who are black don t need to prove anything, but we are made to feel that we always have to prove something. We do not. Being black is not something bad. Being black is just like being white. We have the same red blood running through our veins, we have the same heart. We are human beings. People who act otherwise must understand that.
