1 July 8, 2015 Dear Spanish Health Care Interpreter Training Candidate: Thank yu fr yur interest in the Oregn Spanish Health Care Interpreter Training at Central Oregn Cmmunity Cllege. The next curse will begin January 9, This curse is delivered in a blended frmat which includes classrm, self-study, and nline learning (120 hurs), plus 32 hurs f clinical practicum. Students shuld plan n studying hurs per week frm January thrugh May, Assignments, quizzes, tests (except fr the prctred final written exam) and mst class sessins are nline. Yu will be required t attend fur full-day face t face classrm sessins at (held n a Saturday in January, March, and 2 days in April). A calendar can be fund at the end f this packet (Attachment B). Fllwing the classrm and nline learning, 32 hurs f clinical practicum includes a cmbinatin f tw days f clinical simulatin at (May, 2016) and tw cnsecutive days f clinical practicum in a health care setting (Summer, 2016). There will als be a half-day f clinical bservatin prir t yur clinical practicum. Students must attend ur mandatry rientatin t start the curse which is scheduled at n January 9, 2016 frm 9:00am-nn. Fr students wh live utside Central Oregn, an nline rientatin will be ffered in place f the classrm rientatin (date and time t be determined). The Health Care Interpreter training cnsists f: 1. Intrductin t Health Care Interpreting Basics 24 hurs This unit is an intrductin t interpreting practice and cvers natinal standards, cdes f ethics, and elements f interpreting. 16 hurs f hmewrk assignments will be cmpleted via distance learning prir t the live class sessin. One - 8 hur face t face classrm sessin at Interpreting Basics (nline) test fllws the face t face class sessin. The Interpreting Basics test must be passed successfully t cntinue t the Integrated curse. 2. Integrated Anatmy & Physilgy, Medical Terminlgy and Interpreting Practice 60 hurs f anatmy, medical terminlgy, standard tests and prcedures. Study time apprximately 3-4 hurs per week Online sessins 1 hur weekly (these will be at specific times) Quiz after each unit Three - 8 hur Practice & Applicatin face t face classrm sessins (mnthly at ) Midterm (Units 1-6) and End Term (Units 7-12) Tests 3. Ethics 12 hurs (during 12 weeks f Integrated A & P) This includes: 12 vide assignments (tw per unit) Ethics quiz after each unit. Time: 1 hur per week 1

Cmprehensive Final Written Examinatin (Prctred) includes: Interpreting Basics and Integrated Curse material (Units 1-12) The cmprehensive written exam must be successfully cmpleted befre prceeding t the clinical experience 6. The Oregn AHEC/Central Oregn Cmmunity Cllege Spanish Health Care Interpreter Training meets mst f the Oregn Health Authrity requirements fr Health Care Interpreter Qualificatin. Successful cmpletin f this bilingual curse meets the ral prficiency requirement in English and Spanish. Infrmatin n Health Care Interpreter Qualificatin/Certificatin: Curse Csts: $1675 (Payment #1 f $975 due by December 7, 2015; Payment #2 f $700 due May 12, 2016). Additinal csts fr clinical site requirements will include criminal histry check, immunizatins and urine drug test. See Attachment A fr this infrmatin. Applicatin Fee: A $50 nn-refundable applicatin fee is required fr the interview and bilingual preassessment. Please include yur payment with yur applicatin packet. 3 Pre-Entry Oral and Written Assessment fr Language Prficiency T ensure applicants have apprpriate English and Spanish language skills fr successful cmpletin f the Health Care Interpreter Training, interview/assessments will be cnducted. Interview/assessments include an ral bilingual interview, pace measurement, English t Spanish translatin, Spanish t English translatin and reading cmprehensin assessments. The interview/assessment prcess takes 1.5 hurs t cmplete. Instructins and infrmatin fr the applicant: 1. Cmplete the applicatin frm. Print clearly, s we can cntact yu fr an interview appintment. 2. The passing level fr the interview/assessment is 85%. Criteria evaluated: grammar, wrd usage, clarity f speech, prnunciatin in bth languages, reading cmprehensin, pace, and accent marks and punctuatin n the translatin. 3. 9 Attachment A Clinical Requirements Yu are required t cmplete several requirements at yur wn expense in rder t prceed t the clinical phase f the curse, which takes place in a health care setting. Further infrmatin n these requirements are prvided t registered students at the January 9 rientatin. This page will assist yu with estimating additinal expenses related t this curse, as these csts are nt included in the $1675 curse fee.
