Holcomb is the Jim Moran Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Executive Director of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at The Florida State University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in strategic management and entrepreneurship and doctoral seminars in entrepreneurship and organizational theory. Holcomb s research in management and entrepreneurship examines entrepreneurial opportunity identification and evaluation, initial public offerings (IPOs) and IPO firms, resource-based theory and managerial human capital, and behavioral decision theory. His work appears in Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Organizational Research Methods, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Research, Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research, Advances in Strategic Management, and Decision Line, among others. He has also offered keynote addresses and invited presentations at academic, industry and technology conferences and symposiums in the U.S. and abroad. Holcomb has accumulated more than twenty-five years of consulting, international executive management, and business startup experience, including work in the U.S. and more than twenty countries abroad. He joined Andersen Consulting (now Accenture, NYSE: ACN) following graduate school and helped direct the firm s airline industry practice, served on its manager advisory council for the Americas region, and was responsible for work with several of Andersen s largest consumer products clients. Over a thirteen year career with the firm, he accumulated experience in strategy formulation, technology and business process design, supply chain practices, and change management, serving clients in the retail, consumer goods manufacturing and distribution, and transportation sectors. Holcomb later co-founded Telcom Global Solutions Inc., a global wireless engineering and professional services firm, with Bear Stearns Merchant Banking Group and served as the company's president and chief operating officer for two years. Telcom Global was named to the nationwide "50 to Watch" list of the most successful young U.S. high tech ventures for 2000 and became the third largest wireless engineering services firm in the world in its second full year of operation, serving clients in ten countries with a staff of more than 250 professionals. He sold the company in 2001 to Flextronics International ( NASDAQ: FLEX), a leading provider of global electronic manufacturing services (EMS). The move launched the network services division within Flextronics. Holcomb remained with the company for the next two years, before leaving to pursue his Ph.D. In two years under his direction, the network services division reached sales of $800 million with 6,500 professionals in eighteen countries. Over his career, Holcomb has founded eight startups and has experience raising private equity funding for businesses. He has consulted with a number of public and private companies on a range of strategic, technology, and change management issues. He continues to advise businesses in a variety of industries, and serves on the board of two early-stage high tech ventures: indegree TM and data intelligence group. Currently, Holcomb serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Management and the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. He is as an officer for the Business Policy and Strategy (BPS) Division, the largest division of the Academy of Management and previously served two two-year terms on the Research Committee for the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Division of the Academy. Holcomb serves locally on the boards of the Tallahassee Youth Advanced Play League and Ten Thousand Villages. He is a member of The Rotary Club of Tallahassee, an officer for Cub Scout Pack 6 of the Suwannee River Area Council, and an active member of several academic and professional organizations. Holcomb earned his Ph.D. in strategic management and entrepreneurship from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University in Previously, he earned his bachelor s degree in accounting and business data processing (in 1984) and his master s degree in business administration (in 1986) from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In 2005, he received the University of Louisiana s Golden Arrow Award, conferred annually by the university to its outstanding alumnus. Most Recent Update: 7/30/2010
