1 Our Story Third Prize to Emma Bayside News, Issue 17, 2013 Well done to Emma Turner for her participation in the Anti-Slavery Exhibition being held at Bayside Church during November. This exhibition showcases a wide range of artworks both from participating schools and the broader community. The exhibition is held to raise money and awareness for the prevention of child slavery. Emma s work won third prize out of all work entered in the Years 11 and 12 category. We would like to congratulate Emma for her achievements. Chay Williamson Secondary Art Teacher

2 From the Primary School... From the ELC... Lucky in the ELC The four year old group enjoyed a 'Responsible Pet Ownership' Incursion where they learnt how to be safe with dogs. The children loved having a pat of 'Lucky' the dog! 3 Congratulations! From the Primary School... Star of the Week Last week- Ryan Hooper Grade 1/2B This week- Ruben Aucamp Grade 3/4R Primary Art Grade 3/4 R with their recycled bottle sculptures. The Grades 5/6s had a serious task on their hands last week. They were in charge of investigating a crime scene. They looked at hair fibres, pollens and liquid stains. Their conclusions? Our mystery man who was unconscious at the scene was a baker who had been carrying strawberry tarts to his van when he was knocked over by a dog and hit his head. CSI Bayside 3

4 From the Secondary School... Interschool Athletics Mr. Backholer, Mrs. Poole and myself took the Secondary Athletics team to the Knox track to compete against seven other Christian Schools on Thursday the 7th of November. The students worked really well together in beautiful weather to claim third spot overall on the day. The attitude and peer support amongst the students was sensational throughout the day and several students helped out wherever needed. 5 From the Secondary School... Year 7 Kayaking On Thursday, November 7, the Year 7 Outdoor Education class went Kayaking at Sandringham Yacht Club with our instructor Rohan from East Coast Kayaking. The students learnt all about how to paddle a Kayak in a safe and efficient manner, plus they played lots of games and many of them even chose to go 'overboard' for a swim! A big thanks to Mr Kong who also came along as a helper and took some great photos and video of the day. Luke shares His Story Luke Olver sharing his amazing testimony at Years 9/10 Assembly. 6 The Armour Quest The Armour Quest Primary School production was a huge success with all of our primary children performing beautifully. There is now a DVD available by order only, for both the Monday and Tuesday night performances. If you would like a copy of the DVD, please Karen Hooper or obtain one from the front office. 6

9 Bayside House Keeping and Money Matters 2nd Hand Book Stall - Secondary School Bayside offers a 2nd hand book service, run by parents at the College Book lists and 2nd hand book stall information is being sent home this week Pre-order forms need to be returned to the College office by: Wednesday 27th Nov (10.00am) Books to be sold must be labeled using the labels provided, and submitted at the Library on: Monday 25th Nov pm Tuesday 26th Nov pm Wednesday 27th Nov am Collection times for pre-ordered 2nd hand books are: Friday 29th Nov pm Saturday 30th Nov 10.00am noon from the College Library. Landmark Book lists can be submitted at the 2nd hand book stall. Please Deb Ferdinands for more information or labels. Second Hand Uniform Shop Bayside offers a second hand uniform shop, run by parents at the College. It is open each Wednesday afternoon from pm in U Block (gym right hand side of the stage area). Second hand uniforms can be purchased or dropped off during this time. If you are selling second-hand uniforms, please ensure each item is clearly named and identified. We are currently seeking parent volunteers for a roster planned for the second hand uniform shop. Please me: j.rebbeck@baysidecc.vic.edu.au if you could assist for 30 minutes each month on a Wednesday from pm. Second hand uniforms will be available in the Library on Friday, November 29th from 3-6pm and Saturday, November 30th from 10am 12.00noon, as part of the Secondary 2nd Hand Book Stall service. 9
