The Association of Christian Schools International has extended membership to Carden Christian Academy. This is in addition to our accreditations through the Florida Kindergarten Council (FKC) and Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS). We thank God for the recognition of these excellent programs that provide oversight of private schools. Christmas Program Date Changed to December 3 Begin now inviting your family and friends to our Christmas Program to be held Friday, December 3 at 6 p.m. at Innerarity Point Baptist Church. (Please note this is a change in the date on your school calendar given at orientation.) It will be a full house so be sure and have your children on site by 5:30 p.m. and get a good seat. Bring your camera and expect a great program performed by all our beautiful children. Girls should wear best dresses and dress shoes. Boys should wear long dark pants, a dress shirt, and dress shoes. 2 REMINDERS Instead of having a thanksgiving day, live a THANKSGIVING life. We welcome our Kindergarten students to our Accelerated Reading Program! Keep reading and fly high with us! October Readers of the Month: Kendall Harding (1 st Grade), Sheridan McRoberts (2 nd Grade, Olivia Cutshaw (3 rd Grade), Caitlyn Kenny (4 th Grade), Allan Dash (5 th Grade) and J.B. (Middle School). Congratulations! Yea! Our K through 8 th grade students have read 2,266,047 words since school started! Our goal is 10 million words for the school year. We have a special need of books with AR levels of 6.0 plus. Go to to see if a book you might have is an AR book and what level it is. Or Cstaceytd@att.net with book titles & authors and we will check for you. Ms. Holiday, Mrs. Gilbert, Ms. Zaborny It s November and a wonderful time of year to give thanks to the Lord for all His blessings! We have seen much progress in our writing. Please allow your children to color and play with play dough often. These activities help develop fine motor skills. Our Thanksgiving Parties will be at 11:15 a.m. (morning VPK) and 3:45 p.m. (afternoon VPK). There will be a sign up sheet on the door. Our November birthdays are Lauren (5 th ), Zachary (7 th ), Ben (13 th ), Jeremy (19 th ), and Layla (25 th ). 1. The teachers on duty in the morning are there to receive your children and escort them to the building. Please pull into the marked parking spaces and not the designated handicapped spots. 2. Please do not send sodas to school as part of your child s lunch. 3. ALL medications must be left at the front desk and a form completed that instructs us in the administration of that medication. This month our class has really flourished with their reading. I just love when students start to make the connection between sounds (phonemes) and letters. This is an exiting time for your children. Soon they will be catching you off guard, reading shopping lists and street signs! We also have begun to write sentences. Encourage your children to write more at home, for example stories or dinner requests. We need to build their confidence. Focus less on their accuracy and more on encouraging their willingness to try. This coming month we will begin reading books from the Accelerated Reading Program. Keep an eye out for more information on this. We will also learn about Thanksgiving and Traffic. In our Bible program, we will learn about Our thanksgiving party will be held on the 19th at 1:00 PM in our classroom. We will be dressing up as Pilgrims and Indians and making some thanksgiving crafts. Please see our parent board for a list of volunteer needs. If any parents are interested in running a craft please see me. Mrs. McCabe We have successfully passed the first marking period! As I tallied the students grading averages, I was impressed. As first graders, their academic day has been extended, and several new concepts are being presented to them daily. However, they have buckled down to work and been diligent, and their grades are proof of their success! Congratulations to our student of the month- Kendall Harding! In reading, ALL students are now in the Blue Reader or the second book of the first grade reading program. We are learning to write paragraphs with proper form and are doing very well with writing

3 short stories, as well. In science, we are discovering movement, the way it works, and the different kinds. Please continue to encourage your students to read their AR books! We have collectively read 40,386 words since school started, taken passed 52 out of 54 tests, and earned 24.2 points. With the passing of the first 8 weeks, Thanksgiving is right around the corner and our class Thanksgiving party! Each of you is invited to share in this time of fun with our students! Our party will take place on Friday, November 19 th at 2:00 p.m. On our classroom door, I will be posting a sign-up list of food (store bought, please) to bring. In addition, I would love to have 2 parent volunteers one to help with food and one to present a Thanksgiving craft for the students. I greatly appreciate your help! Mrs. Wilkins So much is being accomplished in our classroom! I love seeing all the knit caps and gloves we will donate to the homeless shelter. We will want to finish this project soon so the caps and gloves can be used during the coming cold weather. We are practicing for our Christmas program and you can help increase your child s confidence with the recorder by purchasing one for home use. These are at Target for under $4.00. I want to thank the volunteers who are working in our room to check out our class library and identify AR books. These will add choices to the school library. Our Accelerated Readers have read 627,162 words since school began. We have passed 68 tests and passed out October goal of 40 points by earning almost 60 for a total so far this year of 95.9 points! We are enjoying playing hockey with a giant ball and pool noodles. What fun! Please continue to check my website for links to online learning games and important messages about the classroom. Thank you for your Scholastic book orders. We will continue to send these home every month. MIDDLE SCHOOL We welcome a new sixth grader, Rebekah Gismondi to our class. We now have 13 students learning and working together to accomplish our very important lessons. Examples of cooperation and leadership are seen every day. Based on these qualities, the students voted for the student of the month. Congratulations, Matthew Barber! Our Middle School Accelerated Readers have passed 72 tests and earned 184 points, an increase of 108 points over last month! We have read 1,351,852 words! Read it again- over 1 million! We are looking forward to our fall break the week of Thanksgiving. On Friday, November 19 we are planning a special lunch together. The details of this will be announced soon. Mrs. Chalanczuk Dear parents, may the Lord bless you. We completed our first term, a challenging but successful term. We covered and mastered information that will be the foundation for everything we will be studying in the rest of the school year. In Science, we learned about the building blocks of every living thing, the cells. In Social Studies, we took a general look at the different regions in our beautiful country. In Vocabulary, we learned intricate words that we are now applying in our writing. In Reading, we are reading an average of about 80 words per minute. In Penmanship, we already learned all of our cursive letters. In Math, we are transitioning from adding and subtracting to multiplying and dividing. As you see, 4 th and 5 th grade is constantly learning. Students enjoy to be challenged and they have been giving their all. I am very proud to be the 4 th and 5 th grade teacher this year. I would like to express a special thanks to all the parents who donated candy, food, or icecream for our end of the term birthday party. It was a success! I would also like to express thanks to my students for their hard work in our soccer club final game against the middle schoolers that ended in a tie. A special congratulations to our

4 Student of the Month, Caitlyn Kenny for all of her hard and tenuous work. In AR, we have read 219,462 words and passed 105 tests. Our classroom point total is As we start our second term, we are full of enthusiasm and joy. In this second term, we will be celebrating with special parties the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. For our Thanksgiving party, we will have a special lunch on Friday, November 19. We will need volunteers for food as well as volunteers who will be present the day of the party. Your help is always greatly appreciated. NEXT MEETING ON NOVEMBER 8. Important issues will be discussed. Please be present. A door prize (free holiday cake of your choice) will be awarded. PTA: Working together to further excellence at Carden Christian Academy! ANNOUNCING Carden Christian Academy Silent Auction Gift items, products, and certificates for services for children and adults are needed for the Carden Christian Academy Silent Auction to be conducted December 6-9. All items must be at the school by Friday, December 3. This will be a wonderful pre-christmas shopping event for everyone! BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION REPORT: As of October 29, Carden Christian Academy students have brought DURING OCTOBER 1,318 box tops! This is added to all box tops we ve turned in since the beginning of school. Checks are issued to schools twice a year and all box tops we ve turned in this year through October will be applied to the December check. Thank you for all you do. Please continue to help us build towards the next check issued in June. These checks (10 cents per box top!) help us support technology and other expanded curriculum at our school. Our class competition totals (10/29/10) are: Gilbert, 663; Zaborny, 272; Holiday, 449; Brackney, 204; McCabe, 267; Wilkins, 459; Chalanckzuk, 86; and Middle School, 98. Some box tops are turned in without names. Please make sure your collection paper or plastic bag is marked with student and teacher name so it can be properly credited. PLEASE REMEMBER TO CONTRIBUTE TO TOYS 4 TOTS!

5 TABS FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE We continue to collect can tabs for Ronald McDonald House. This community service project is helping our local chapter and services provided right here in Pensacola. McDonalds Corporation had given us certificates for free french fries that will go to any student who brings in a plastic drink bottle (or ziplock bag) full of tabs. We still have about 60 certificates left to give away. During the upcoming holidays, be sure and make a habit of saving your tabs. And remember, any soups or other canned foods that have pull tabs can be saved and added to your collection.
