The dress rehearsal is Thursday, May 14, at 5:15 p.m. in the gym. Spirit Week The week of May 4th will be Student Council s Spirit Week fund raiser. Each day we ask for a 50 donation for participation with all money raised going to Nets for Life. Medications Please be sure to pick up your child s medications when your child is done taking them. This includes epi-pens, inhalers, plus prescription and over the counter meds. We have to dispose of any medication that is not picked up by the last day of school.

2 Lunch Money As we approach the end of the school year, I want to remind you that your students cannot end the year with a negative balance in their lunch account. Please make sure that any lunch charges are taken care before the last week of school. Any money left in their account will carry over until next year. If your child is moving on to the middle school, their account will follow them there. If you have any questions, please call me at Betty Fiddelke Lost and Found Our bucket is full! We have several lunch boxes, lots of gloves, hats, coats, sweaters, etc. Please stop and check it out. All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of May. Box Tops for Education Thanks for a great school year! We earned $ this school year from the Box Tops for Education program. Please continue collecting Box Tops this summer, as we ll kick-off our fall contest in August. Have a great break and KEEP COLLECTING! Scholastic Book Fair Buy 1 - Get 1 Free Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Keep Omaha Beautiful Spring Clean Up At Rockbrook on Saturday, May 9, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. only. Time to rid your home of those bulky items taking up space!! Keep Omaha Beautiful, Inc., along with the City of Omaha, will once again hold our annual City Spring Cleanup. Sites will accept large, bulky items that cannot be picked up curb side. Appliances, tires, and batteries will be accepted at alternate sites. Please call the hot line at to find these locations. Items NOT ALLOWED - paints, pesticides, concrete, railroad ties, yard waste and limbs. Vouchers will be available to dispose of yard waste at River City Recycling (60th & Harrison) on that date only. Volunteers needed No one under the age of 15 is allowed in the working area. This can be a dirty job so please bring gloves and do not wear open toed shoes. Please sign up at Parent Advisory & Safety Group At Rockbrook we value the feedback and support of our parents in ensuring our school is a safe and fun place for kids. This year we re-instituted a Parent Advisory & Safety Group to help in this process. Prior meetings have been held the same day as Community Club Meetings at 2:30. In order to make sure we can include your thoughts we are asking at this time if there would be a better time to meet. 3 MIDDLE SCHOOL HEALTH PHYSICAL INFO: Incoming 7th graders will need a complete health physical, with updated immunizations, upon entering WMS this fall. Your physician may print out the physical and immunizations on his/her forms, or you may print the 7th grade health physical exam form off of the WMS website under the Health Information tab. This exam must be completed anytime after February 11, 2015, and before school starts. Please bring these forms to the WMS Orientation (dates TBD), or drop them off in the main office at WMS only. Please do not send them with your child, or give them to your elementary school. If your child has any chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, etc., please contact me and we will make sure the appropriate paperwork/health action plan is completed, so we are prepared prior to school starting. These forms can also be found on the WMS website. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. 4 Rockbrook Staff Announcements As we near the end of our school year we wanted to share a few staff changes that will be underway for next year. Retirements Mrs. Peg Reznicek As many of you may have heard, a treasured fixture of Rockbrook, 4th grade teacher Mrs. Reznicek, will be retiring at the end of this year. Hardly one to rest on her laurels, we know that Mrs. Reznicek will be busy with many adventures in the coming year. We will certainly miss having her wisdom, her humor, and her caring way with students. There will be a small celebration for Mrs. Reznicek on May 21st after school (3:30-4:30) for those who would like to come and celebrate this new chapter with her. Ms. Marli Meyer We also wish well to one of our personal care nurses, Marli Meyer, who will be retiring after 5 years of work with Westside. Her future plans are to travel to visit her 13 grandchildren, friends, and to see more of these United States. She wants to work on home projects and find new places to walk around town. She is also open to add items to her bucket list. Ms. Meyer and Mrs. Reznicek have chosen to share their celebration on the 21st and we wish the both of them well. New Adventures Ms. Patricia O Brien It is bittersweet for me to announce my departure from Rockbrook, as I have found the school and community to be overly welcoming, and friendly. As sad as I am to leave, I will be moving onward to Chicago, to continue my teaching career in the downtown area. I am choosing to leave on my own accord, but will always hold a special place for Rockbrook in my heart. I could not have asked for a better teaching experience or a more meaningful one. I will deeply miss the students I have worked with and hope to visit often. I would like to thank Rockbrook s students, staff, parents, and community for everything that they have done for me. I have learned more than I could have imagined in my time here, which is a priceless gift that will set the foundation for my future teaching career. Thank you, Fondly, Trisha O Brien Welcoming New Teachers Ms. Jill Conyers Ms. Conyers is not an entirely new face to Rockbrook as she joined us this winter to help with reading interventions. Ms. Conyers is a long time teacher with Westside having previously taught at Swanson Elementary. Next year Ms. Conyers will be making the move to 5th grade. We welcome Ms. Conyers for this new adventure and look forward to her continuing with our Rockbrook team. Mr. Andy Rider My name is Andy Rider and I have been a Westsider my entire life. I grew up in District 66, first at Oakdale Elementary and eventually graduating from Westside High School. I have also been working in Westside for three years, two of them as an Educational Assistant at the high school and one semester of student teaching. I am currently finishing up my Master of Arts in Teaching with endorsements in Special Education and Language Arts. In my spare time I like to be outside and active, I especially love being around water. I am a swim coach at Swim Omaha. I have been coaching swimming for almost 10 years now and it is definitely one of my biggest passions. I am very excited to get the opportunity to teach at Rockbrook Elementary. I am looking forward to getting started this fall and learning about all the good things Rockbrook has to offer. Mrs. Sarah Lieske My name is Sarah Lieske, and I am excited to join Meghan Martin on the counseling team at Rockbrook. This is my third year as a counselor. Previous to being a counselor, I was a third grade teacher for 3 years and a kindergarten teacher for 11 years. I am married and have 3 children. I love to spend time with my family, read and knit. I love my job and the opportunities I have to work with students, families, and teachers each day. I look forward to working with all of you!
