2 WELCOME TO BT BUSINESS MOBILE. This guide will help you set up your phone and make the most of your BT Business Mobile service. 2 NEED TO CONTACT US? 3 BT BUSINESS MOBILE SIM CARDS. Depending on the hardware you ve chosen you ll receive a BT Business Mobile nano-sim or combi-sim. Nano-SIM: If you receive a SIM which has a purple outline around the side of the SIM with a BT logo, your SIM card is a nano-sim. It can simply be popped out of the larger card and inserted in your device. 3 Combi-SIM: If you receive a SIM card which is shaded purple around the chip, your SIM card is a combi-sim. A combi-sim is a mini-sim that has a micro-sim inside it. The adaptor, or frame, makes the SIM the same size as a mini-sim, but the inner micro-sim (shown in purple) can be popped out, for use in newer smartphones. If you have popped out the micro-sim by mistake, it can be re-inserted to the frame again to create a mini-sim.
4 4 GETTING STARTED. Activate your phone: We activate most of our SIM cards before we send them out, so you should be able to use it straight away. Just put the SIM card into the phone and switch it on. You might need to charge your battery first check your handset user guide for instructions. We can t always activate our SIM cards before sending them out. If this is the case, you ll need to complete our simple online activation form at Please note this process doesn t apply to customers moving to our new network. You will receive a separate letter in your mobile welcome pack explaining what you need to do. Find your mobile number: If you re unsure what your mobile phone number is, you can either phone a landline number from your mobile phone, and then dial 1471 from the landline, or you can phone another mobile phone and look at the call log to find the number. Find your IMEI number: Simply press *#06# on your keypad and press call/send. Your IMEI number will be displayed on screen. You ll need your IMEI number if ever your phone is lost or stolen, so make a note of it at the front of this guide.
5 VOIC . Access voic With BT Voic you get a comprehensive voic and mailbox service. It s free and easy to set up, just: 1. Call 1571 from your mobile 2. Listen to the recorded announcement which plays the first time you access your voic , and follow the voice prompts. To set up a personal greeting: You will be prompted to create a personal greeting the first time you access your mailbox. To do this at any other time: Call 1571 from your mobile Choose option 2, then press 1 and follow the voice prompts. Set up voic PIN: To help protect the privacy and security of your business data we recommend you set up a voic PIN. Simply: 1. Call 1571 from your mobile 2. Choose option 3, then press 3 and follow the voice prompts 3. Enter a number between four and ten digits. Try to make it something you ll remember easily. To choose your message alert: You can choose how you re alerted when you receive a new voic message. To set your preferences: Call 1571 from your mobile Choose option 3 Follow the voice prompts which allow you to customise your message alerts. 5
6 MANAGING DATA. Today s smartphones are powerful computing devices that let you access the internet, send and receive and work whether you re at home or on the move. To do this they need to connect with wi-fi or the mobile phone network. 6 Using wi-fi: Wi-fi is great because it won t use up your data allowance. At BT we have a comprehensive wi-fi network: 5 million plus BT Wi-fi hotspots in the UK All BT Business Mobile customers receive unlimited free BT wi-fi access. Accessing wi-fi: When you are in a BT Wi-fi hotspot or in range of any other wi-fi connection: Go into your phone s settings/options menu and select wi-fi (refer to your handset user guide for detailed instructions on menu navigation) Search for available connections You may need a password for some wi-fi connections. DID YOU KNOW? Our wi-fi app frees you from restrictive mobile data allowances and gives you unlimited internet on the move via your laptop, netbook, smartphone or tablet for free, while in BT Wi-fi coverage. Downloading the app also makes it easier to find one of our five million BT hotspots and log on. 7 Using the BT Mobile Service: If you re not near a wi-fi hotspot, you ll need to use your mobile network to access the internet. This will use your data allowance, so make sure you have a suitable data allowance in your package. Apps are available to help you track your data usage, and to close down any applications which are running in the background and using data. These are a good guide but aren t 100% accurate. NEED HELP MANAGING YOUR DATA COSTS? For hints and tips visit: APN settings: If you re having trouble accessing data from your mobile phone you may need to configure your APN settings. APN stands for Access Point Name. It s a gateway between your mobile network and usually the public internet. The APN must match authorisation settings. These settings come pre-configured, but if you need to manually configure the BT Mobile APN settings, use the following: APN address: btmobile.bt.com Username: bt Password: bt 7
8 MANAGING DATA. 8 MMS settings: If you re having trouble sending and receiving MMS picture messages, you may need to configure your MMS settings. MMS stands for multi-media messaging service, and is a standard way to send multi-media content to and from mobile devices. MMS settings should come pre-configured, but if you need to manually configure the BT Mobile APN settings, use the following: APN address: MMS.BT.COM Username: bt Password: bt MMSC address: MMS Proxy: Port: 8080
9 THINGS TO CONSIDER. Going abroad? If you re going abroad, you need to make sure your phone is enabled. If you haven t enabled your phone for going abroad or aren t sure, make sure you ring us at least 24 hours before you re due to travel. You also need to make sure you ve set up a voic PIN number, otherwise you may not be able to access your voic messages when abroad (see page 5 of this guide for more details). As well as the services you have ordered from us, there are a range of Mobile Extras you can add to your account such as extra call minutes, text and data as well as roaming bundles. Contacting us: We re here to help if there s anything you need. There are different customer service numbers for different customers, so please use the one on your welcome letter. It s a good idea to write it in this guide and add it to your contacts list on your mobile. Report a lost or stolen mobile: Call customer services and we ll block your mobile. You ll need to do this straight away, otherwise you ll be liable for calls made until it s reported. You ll need to make a note of your phone s IMEI number which can be found by dialling *#06#. We recommend you write this down on the front page of this guide. Your contract may also include the Annex (if you take one of the options included in the Annex), your Welcome Letter (the letter will tell you this) and/or a Charges Schedule (which we will provide to you).
