Staff will be required to carry a mobile phone and be contactable at reasonable times. You are required to be available to respond in a major incident within the IT service that may be impacted by the Technology Group. You may be required to be on-call on a pre-arranged rota basis, but no more frequently than one week in four. Job Purpose Responsible for maintaining the BU Microsoft Server based production infrastructure to required levels of availability, capacity and security. And for ensuring any potential issues that could impact on service are acted upon proactively, ensuring enhancements are appropriate and measured and do not negatively impact on the service generally. Act as 3 rd Line support for IT systems and services and liaise with 3 rd party vendors where required to resolve issues that cannot be resolved internally Responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of Microsoft servers and Microsoft server technologies as defined through the BU Project elivery Lifecycle. To identify and develop effective service improvement plans for the production portfolio within this role s area of expertise and to contribute to the design and development of the BU Production Infrastructure. Main Responsibilities 1. Install, configure and maintain server, network and / or application services in line with expected Service Levels and standards 2. Maintain Capacity Plans and ensure predicted demand levels are in line with actual and report / act where discrepancies occur 3. Monitor Availability of services and address any shortfalls with Service Improvement Plans 4. Serve as Technical Lead for production servers, networks and systems and support the Incident / Problem Management Processes in restoring services, identifying workarounds and root cause of issues. 5. Provide technical documentation and knowledge to support IT Service Management processes

2 6. nsure backup / recovery systems are functional / effective and tested regularly. nsure scheduled backup are successful and useable addressing any issues in a timely manner 7. Contribute and help resource development projects within areas of technical expertise. 8. Support transitioning of new systems into Production including QA and Acceptance testing, load testing and documentation / knowledge transfer 9. Maintain Alert and vent monitoring systems and analyse trends, baselines and overall performance of systems and services to ensure any potential issues are quickly identified and addressed 10. Maintain an accurate issue and risk for each system or service and monitor /address then as part of a continual service improvement programme 11. Proactively identify common faults or areas where application reliability could be improved, where certain software are consistently causing problems or where processes are inefficient and provide recommendations on how they can be effectively addressed. 12. Implement changes to infrastructure and applications in line with implementation instructions issues by the Change Advisory Board 13. Maintain a personal development programme, measuring your performance against Key Performance Indicators, as agreed with IT Infrastructure Manager and in line with team objectives 14. evelop and maintain excellent working relationships with all users and IT colleagues and work collaboratively to develop and provide integrated and seamless delivery of services to the University Organisation Chart imensions IT systems are growing in number, complexity, scope and coverage including systems designed to support document management and learning and teaching. The delivery of these systems involves a complex environment to ensure the services are responsive, reliable, robust and secure. To deliver and maintain these services we require in-depth, wide-ranging technical knowledge and experience. 3 Scripting: Windows PowerShell Identity & Access Control: Active irectory Configuration management: Group Policy Group Collaboration: Microsoft SharePoint Identity Management: FIM/MIM mail: Microsoft xchange Unified Communications: Skype for Business Associated Technologies: ndpoint protection: McAfee epo Patching: Shavlik Protect Password Vault: CyberArk Load Balancer: F5 Virtualisation: VMware vsphere Running Windows Servers in a Virtualised nvironment For information the BU nterprise Wide Technical infrastructure consists of: C500 servers running Linux, Microsoft Windows, HP-UX and SunOS operating systems both physical and in virtual environments C350 applications/databases c20,000 internal user accounts c4000 desktop computers c50,000 accounts For Information the Network infrastructure consists of: 35 comms rooms Cisco routers and switches and network points Wireless N coverage throughout the University using c.500 access points ResNet Services to approx 2500 rooms offering connection to the University network UniLet IT Services to approx 2000 students 2 Gbit connection to the internet, with 1Gbit backup link VPN connectivity to partner institutions and home workers Cisco IP Telephony System capable of supporting c4000+ users Contacts Internal: All staff up to heads of School/Support Services The post holder will need to work with managers within IT Services. xternal: Professional user groups and University Partners. Additional Information The post holder must operate at all times in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements. The duties may vary from time to time without changing their general character or level of responsibility. The post-holder may be required to: Attend training courses away from the University Carry a supplied mobile phone and be contactable at reasonable times Will be expected to work unsocial hours as required by projects (inc weekends / bank holidays) Will be expected to supervise and manager Partners / Suppliers (IT Services only) When on-call, staff must:- be expected to be within one hour travel time of the University be fit and available for work at all times.
