2 Overview Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic progressive lung disease with survival comparable to many cancers. The historical standard of care for IPF is oxygen supplementation, management of co-morbidities, and lung transplantation. The therapeutic landscape for IPF management is rapidly evolving. Diagnosis may be challenging for radiologists, pulmonologists, and pathologists alike, as IPF can mimic other fibrotic lung conditions. It is imperative that radiologists are able to accurately diagnose the usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern of IPF promptly, so that patients can be referred and treated in a timely manner. In this activity, thought leaders in pulmonology, thoracic radiology, and pathology will address the gaps in knowledge in accurately diagnosing IPF, using appropriate imaging modalities as well as laboratory studies. Clinical evidence regarding current FDAapproved pharmacotherapies used for the management of IPF will also be presented. Learning Objectives Upon successful completion of this educational activity, participants should be better able to: Examine the pathophysiology, burden, and difficulties associated with the diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis to better understand why it may be misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed. Differentially diagnose idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, using the appropriate imaging modalities and laboratory assays to enable earlier treatment and improve patient outcomes.
