This requires not only that we provide the best possible care, but that we convey these skills to trainees and that we develop novel approaches to understanding and managing these diseases through basic science and clinical and outcomes research. Our mission is to deliver excellent patient care, to develop new knowledge about the lung in health and disease, and to train individuals to be outstanding clinicians and researchers. The clinical focus of our division is respiratory disorders (diseases such as asthma, emphysema, lung infections, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer; and symptoms such as shortness of breath and cough) and critical illness (conditions such as sepsis, respiratory failure, and multiple organ failure). We are proud to be recognized around the world for our excellence in all of these realms.
