3 CONFERENCE OVERVIEW As the first contact by a patient, the primary care physician s practice incorporates management of a variety of acute and chronic illnesses and complex, multi-system diseases, as well as preventive care. This conference, designed by primary care physicians for primary care physicians, will educate and enhance physician knowledge, competence and performance in a broad range of therapeutic areas commonly encountered in the primary care practice. Participants will be given opportunities for interaction with course faculty, who have been selected by the conference planning committee for their expertise, knowledge and clinical acumen. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES List the ICD-10-CM conventions and guidelines to achieve complete and accurate documentation, code assignment and reporting of diagnoses Differentiate and assess various wounds and categories, apply appropriate treatment and management in the primary care office and know when to refer Recognize the need for genetic testing in the individual/family including thoracic aneurysm, possible psychiatric conditions and learning disabilities and the efficacy of expanded genetic testing in finding the cause of inherited cancers List the implications of new information on strategies and clinical management to improve treatment of patients with HIV disease, including co-morbid conditions Know the legal status of marijuana use in California, and apply the evidence-based safety and efficacy of its use, including the pros and cons of prescribing Conduct proper work-ups and evaluation to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and development of a treatment plan for depression and know when to refer Accurately diagnose complex ADD-ADHD and select treatment strategies that balance safety and efficacy when managing ADD-ADHD Select appropriate tools for screening and differential diagnosis of headaches including chronic and episodic migraines and prescribe evidence-based treatment guidelines for each Timely identify the high-risk patient for atrial fibrillation and prescribe the new strategies and clinical guidelines to mitigate the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation, know when to refer Compare and apply the past and current clinical guidelines for treatment and management of cholesterol in adults List the current clinical guidelines for the management of gout, prescribe appropriate treatments, and know when to refer Recite the pathophysiology of systemic lupus erythematosis to apply strategies for its timely diagnosis and associated co-morbidities, including antiphospholipid antibody syndrome and primary and secondary raynauds and know when to refer. No charge to attend. An exclusive presentation for conference attendees and guests will be given by a staffer of Yosemite Interpretive Services on natural and cultural stories of the park. YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK ACTIVITIES Yosemite is full of opportunities. Explore the grandeour of Yosemite at your own pace by hiking, biking or riding the free bus shuttles. The many species of birds, animals, plants and trees await visitors, as well as the park's natural wonders - dazzling waterfalls that run full in the Springtime and the massive monuments, Half Dome and El Capitan.
