1 PRESENTS: Wound Care/HBO Symposium Friday, November 2, :00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. LOCATION Hilton Garden Inn-Levis Commons 6165 Levis Commons Blvd. Perrysburg, OH INTRODUCTION This symposium was developed to emphasize the main aspect of wound care and hyperbaric therapy from a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive viewpoint. It is a one day sympoisum that will focus on the evaluation and management of the main wound types, nursing care with regard to both wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, nutritional assessment, management of infectious processes in wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, surgical intervention in wound care and offloading techniques. The symposium aims to provide beneficial updates concerning wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for practitioners from a variety of specialties. Physicians: vascular, family/internal medicine, general surgery, plastic surgery, CT surgery, podiatry,trauma, ER, infectious disease, urology/surgery, oncology, nurses, certified hyperbaric technicians, PT's, OT's, PA's, dieticians, residents/ students are encouraged to attend.

The University of Toledo designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 7.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. This Live activity, Wound Care/HBO Symposium, with a beginning date of November 2, 2012 has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 6.00 Prescribed Credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Ohio Board of Nursing will accept, at face value, the number of hours awarded for an educational activity that has been approved for CE, provided it was approved by a nationally accredited system of CE approval. OBJECTIVES Identify wound pathophysiology and the four stages of wound healing. Delineate history taking in the traumatic wound and differentiate common types of trauma wounds. Define basic management of the diabetic foot ulcer and when HBO therapy is indicated. Differentiate between venous and arterial ulcers in appearance and diagnostic tools. Identify the pathophysiology of pressure ulcers and tools for prevention. Identify presentation of arterial ulcers. Recognize necrosis to the wound bed as well as deep tissue injury. Identify types and correct utilization of heel offloading devices. Identify tactics of gait modification in offloading the foot and ankle. Recognize patient education prior to HBO therapy. Recognize what wound types are appropriate for flat consideration. Identify signs and symptoms of wound infection and when and how to culture wounds. Determine when formal nutritional intervention is necessary in the wounded patient. Recognize basic wound assessment and characteristics. Recognize the indications and approved wound diagnoses for HBO therapy. Describe mechanisms necessary to keep staff safe during HBO therapy. Recognize elements needed for daily operations of a wound and HBO center.
