2 WonderRoot s The Imaginary Million What is it? The Imaginary Million is a one-night gala-style art event that features the artwork of 100 Atlanta area artists, from emerging to established, and elevates the participating artists as the stars of the show. The Imaginary Million is an art auction designed to elevate and empower artists. One hundred participating artists from varying disciplines experiences, and backgrounds, each submit a work for the auction, and upon arrival, receive $10,000 of imaginary money. With this money, the artists are the exclusive patrons of the auction, using the imaginary money to bid on the work of their peers. The high-energy bidding war that ensues fosters a culture of peer collecting and empowers artists as both a leading voice and the talent of Atlanta s burgeoning arts economy. Guests are invited to witness the competitive art-trade and to celebrate the empowerment of Atlanta s artists over cocktails and music. A selection of art will be for sale to attendees. When is it? December 9, pm 11 pm Where is it? Le Fais do-do 1611 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA What will happen at the event? The Imaginary Million is an art auction + cocktail party + art party + dance party + fundraiser = BIG TIME FUN. Event guests will get to view artwork from 100 of Atlanta s hottest artists photography, painting, sculpture and more! Some of the guests (the artists) will even have the opportunity to bid on the artwork of their peers with imaginary currency they are provided by WonderRoot. The non-artists guests will have their own artwork that they can purchase. There will be a DJ, live art, silent auction, live auction, cocktails and hors d oeuvres. On the evening of the event, the 100 participating artists will take part in a peer-to-peer style auction. At the beginning of the evening, each artist will receive $10,000 in currency created uniquely for The Imaginary Million. With this money, the artists will purchase the work of their peers in both silent and live auctions. At the end of the night, artists will take home the piece or pieces they have won, symbolizing an economic exchange. However, no real money will have changed hands only an imaginary million. Attendee Profile: This event is designed for both artists and the culture-interested public. Our inaugural event in 2012 garnered over 600 attendees, and we are anticipating meeting this number at this year s event between our host committee, the artists, their guests, patrons, and sponsors. Event Purpose: This event is designed to simultaneously empower Atlanta s artists while also calling attention to the negative elements of a traditional art auction. Artists and attendees gather to celebrate Atlanta s artists and to learn about the arts economy. As a fundraiser, the event is creating an opportunity for more audiences to actively participate in supporting Atlanta s art community with a low entry fee and an accessible concept. Sponsorship
