1 Why Sponsor Amateur Sport? Sponsorship offers corporate Canada a viable alternative to conventional advertising - it sends a brand message in a much subtler, long-lasting manner. Sport is a key part of Canadian culture, plus it also consistently retains its attractiveness as a form of entertainment and tourism*. This means that sponsorship is unfailingly a popular approach for large and small companies to market themselves. In fact, it is a very effective way of associating a brand or identity with the values represented by a particular sport. It is also an excellent means to differentiate oneself from the competition. Benefits associated with sport sponsorship are numerous and include increased product awareness, enhanced corporate image, more client entertainment opportunities, increased brand loyalty, positive community image/social responsibility, differentiation amongst competitors and enriched employee morale. In fact, one of the key reasons that corporate Canada aligns itself with amateur athletes, their events and the national sport organizations that pull it all together is because of the values shared between sport and business. A partnership with Biathlon Canada will have a motivating effect on your employees and your customers and allow you to position yourself as a strong supporter of amateur sport something that is highly valued in Canadian society. Sponsorship packages range from $5000 per year to $50,000 per year. All sponsorship programs are customized to meet with a sponsor s individual needs, marketing strategies and budget. A minimum 2-year commitment is required. Advertising opportunities start at $500 per year (see rate card for details). *Did you know that sport tourism (travel for the sake of either viewing or participating in a sporting event) is the fastest growing segment of the tourism industry and is the only segment that is not affected by economic downturns? Who Are We? Biathlon is an Olympic winter sport that combines competitive, free-technique cross-country skiing and small bore rifle marksmanship. It is a challenging sport because of the combination of two very contradictory disciplines skiing and shooting. Cross-country racing requires intense, full out physical exertion over an extended period of time. Shooting demands extremely fine control and stability. It takes a very talented athlete to excel in both! Biathlon Canada is a not-for-profit amateur sport organization that governs the sport of biathlon in Canada. Founded in 1985, Biathlon Canada provides national Amateur programs Sport, designed the Olympics to develop and athletes Canada from the grass roots to the elite level. Biathlon Canada also trains and supports coaches and officials. Biathlon Canada is a member of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and hosts both domestic and international events in Canada.

2 Amateur Sport, The Olympics & Canada The Vancouver Winter Olympics changed our country. The Games captured the hearts and minds of Canadians and became a pivotal moment in Canadian history. In fact, the day after the closing ceremonies in 2010, Canadians felt like they had woken up in a new and improved Canada, rich with patriotism. This is the power of sport and the reason why so many Canadian companies raced to join the Olympic movement helping VANOC to shatter previous Olympic sponsorship records. En Route to Korea What is waiting for us in Pyeong Chang in 2018? Canada s national team athletes can taste the podium. Strong top 5 and top 10 results by numerous athletes at the recent Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014 indicate that a podium finish is within reach. Our athletes are hungry for an Olympic medal. The first since Myriam Bédard s historic moment in 1992 when she claimed Canada s first-ever medal in biathlon (bronze in the 15km event) and again in 1994 when Bédard came through with a double gold performance a feat that has never again been repeated by a Canadian female athlete. Quick Facts About Biathlon in Korea (February 9-25, 2018) The world-class Biathlon Center was built for the 2009 IBU World Championships and will be upgraded to include increased stadium seating, widened courses, a shooting range, and a warm-up area. Biathlon competition will take place over a period of 14 days (11 days of actual competition). # of Biathlon Disciplines in Olympic Competition: # of Countries Represented: # of Canadian Athletes Expected to Compete in Biathlon: Type of Rifles Used:.22 calibre 6 8 The new generation of Biathlon athletes have the advantage of better technology, centralized training at Canada s national team training centre (in Canmore, Alberta) and some of the top coaching in the world. An Olympic medal in Pyeong Chang is within reach! Team Canada s Financial Need Preparing to send a team of athletes to compete internationally on behalf of Canada is no small feat! It will cost over $1M per year for 4 years to support Canada s athletes in all areas of their Olympic preparation from clothing to equipment to coaching to travel to medical services. Biathlon Canada receives federal government funding and corporate support to help offset these costs. Private sector funds through corporate partnerships are essential. Our athletes need you!
