1 tdsbcreates: Art & Film For Secondary Students What is tdsbcreates? tdsbcreates is the second annual system-wide celebration of dance, drama, media arts and visual arts in the TDSB. The festival will engage many students in arts initiatives throughout the year, with culminating special events between April 20 th and May 8 th in schools, communities, galleries, and performing arts venues around the city of Toronto. Students, teachers, and artists will come together as a community to create, celebrate, and learn together. What is the theme of tdsbcreates? tdsbcreates is a celebration of our city stories through the arts. Students are invited to explore their personal connections to the people, places, histories, and happenings of their city. The secondary ( Grades 9-12) visual arts and film strand of the festival provides a platform for students to say something powerful about their identity and their experience of living in Toronto through art or film. Students are invited to submit art and film proposals for consideration by a jury of professional artists. Through this juried process, work will be selected for development and exhibition. Find innovative ways to communicate your message! We invite students to take creative risks and try new ideas. Creative collaboration, the inclusion of technology, and interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged! We will make every effort to support student creativity with appropriate artist mentorship. The tdsbcreates: Art & Film exhibition will take place at Artscape Youngplace, 180 Shaw Street. Exhibition Dates: April 22 May 10, 2015 Opening reception: Monday, April 27, 6:30 8:00 p.m. File:E06\tdsbCREATES Vis Arts Film FINAL.docx Page 1 of 11
