Further information about a career with ACU is available at THE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES The Faculty of Health Sciences has courses in counselling, environmental science, exercise physiology, exercise science, mental health, midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, paramedicine, physiotherapy, psychology, public health, social work and speech pathology. The Faculty of Health Sciences is located across six campuses of ACU and is structured into six academic organizational units comprising: School of Allied Health School of Exercise Science School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine School of Physiotherapy School of Psychology School of Science. ACU HEALTH CLINICS ACU Health Clinics encompass all the student professional practice learning clinics operating within the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS). The primary purpose of ACU Health Clinics is to provide highquality, innovative professional learning experiences for FHS students in the context of delivering evidence-based practice, client-centred health services to the public. This position reports to the Clinic Coordinator: Allied Health Clinics (Banyo) and works in close collaboration with other Professional Practice Educators in the Allied Health clinical programs. ACU Health Clinics include; The ACU Psychology and Counselling Clinics: Psychology and Counselling Clinics operate from the St Patrick s Campus, Melbourne, The Mary Aikenhead Clinic in Strathfield and the McAuley Campus in Brisbane. Allied Health Clinics: Services currently include Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech Pathology. Specific services offered on each campus vary. Exercise Science: Clinics Services are offered at the Strathfield, Melbourne and Brisbane campuses. Page 3 of 6

4 POSITION PURPOSE The primary purpose of the position is to provide high quality professional education and supervision to Physiotherapy students in the context of delivery of evidence-based physiotherapy care to clients attending the Australian Catholic University Limited (ACU) Health Clinics (Banyo Campus), The Physiotherapy Clinic at Banyo comprises three services; Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy, Vestibular, Balance and Mobility Physiotherapy and Paediatric Physiotherapy. The clinics provide an all-year round service. The position holder will organise the service requirements for a Musculoskeletal and Sports physiotherapy caseload, supervise students as they undertake their professional practice placement, maintain a clinical case load during non-student periods as required, use the Physiotherapy clinical assessment instrument / criteria to determine clinical competence (performance) of students; foster student involvement in clinical projects, participate in research activities; and adhere to policies and procedures that ensure infection control, safe practice (WH&S) and maintenance of clinical records of patients as required by ACU Health Clinics protocols and relevant legislation. The Clinical Educator Physiotherapist will work closely with the Clinic Coordinator: Allied Health, and School of Physiotherapy staff to ensure that the academic and practicum components of the ACU Physiotherapy undergraduate curriculum align and integrate to optimize student learning outcomes. In this regard the Clinical Educator - Physiotherapist will contribute technical, clinical and industry advice relevant to their area of clinical experience and expertise. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES Provide high quality education to physiotherapy students engaging in Professional Practice activities. This may involve a range of environments. E.g. University based clinic or an external site such as a school, hospital or community centre. Develop and deliver evidence based physiotherapy for patients in conjunction with students and other clinical staff, or directly as required for quality and continuity of care. Develop and implement appropriate student education processes and models of supervision to support students learning as applicable for their existing knowledge and skills. Work with the Clinic Coordinator: Allied Health and School of Physiotherapy staff regarding curriculum and program development, implementation and review, to ensure consistency between classroom and clinical teaching. Assess the professional practice competency of final year Physiotherapy students utilizing profession specific tools and criteria. Implement and monitor operational and clinical procedures specifically related to Physiotherapy to ensure compliance of ACU Health Clinics with relevant professional and legislative standards. Support other academic units in practical and skill development sessions, including through the delivery of seminars, tutorials and workshops, and undertake assessment and marking as required and where this can be accommodated within the constraints of student education and client management responsibilities. Contribute to and/or participate in research related to professional practice education, clinical practice and/or higher education where this is consistent with service delivery and student supervision responsibilities. Foster ACU Health Clinics relationship with other health services and referral bases, professional bodies and the wider community. Page 4 of 6

5 Perform a range of administrative functions in the ACU Health Clinics related to set up, implementation and evaluation of student learning experiences and service delivery. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE (SELECTION CRITERIA) Essential 1. Possess a relevant Physiotherapy qualification and current registration with AHP Regulatory Authority and extensive relevant clinical experience. 2. Demonstrated expertise and experience in the delivery of evidence-based practice in the area of Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal and Sports). 3. Demonstrated ability to teach and assess physiotherapy clinical science within a clinical setting and supervise students in workplace learning settings. 4. Demonstrated knowledge of professional placement education issues and the ability to develop and implement innovative methods of instruction for professional placement settings. 5. Evidence of an understanding of the nexus between teaching, learning, and research in approaches to teaching and learning, particularly in relation to clinical supervision 6. Ability to establish effective working relationships and to represent and promote the Physiotherapy profession at an inter-professional, university and wider community level. 7. Highly developed interpersonal, analytical, time management and problem-solving skills, supported by excellent written and oral communication skills 8. Ability to work effectively with technology systems and software applications 9. Demonstrate a commitment to working in an environment of performance excellence, guided by ACU s Service Principles. 10. Evidence of ability or capacity to work with children, and contribute to and protect their safety and wellbeing. The successful applicant will be required to hold a valid working with children clearance for the state or territory in which the position is located. 11. Demonstrate an awareness of the University s Mission and Catholic ethos and demonstrate an understanding of how this role serves the Mission. 12. Demonstrate commitment to cultural diversity and ethical practice principles, and demonstrate knowledge of equal employment opportunity and workplace health and safety, appropriate to the level of the appointment. Desirable 1. Higher degree (Post Graduate Diploma, Masters or PhD or equivalent) in Physiotherapy 2. Accredited senior first aid certificate, advanced resuscitation certificate, anaphylaxis and automated defibrillation certificate (or willingness to obtain same prior to commencing appointment) and willingness to maintain certificates during the term of the appointment. MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR ACADEMIC LEVELS (MSALs) The minimum standards for levels of academic staff, other than a casual, are set out in this Schedule. The levels are differentiated by level of complexity, degree of autonomy, leadership requirements of the position and level of achievement of the academic. The responsibilities of academic staff may vary according to the specific requirements of the institution to meet its objectives, to different discipline requirements and/or to individual staff development. 6 An academic appointed to a particular level may be assigned and may be expected to undertake, responsibilities and functions of any level up to and including the level to which the academic is appointed or promoted. In addition, an academic may undertake elements of the work of a higher level in order to gain experience and expertise consistent with the requirements of an institution s promotion processes Level A A Level A academic will work with the support and guidance from more senior Academic Staff and is expected to develop his or her expertise in teaching and research with an increasing degree of autonomy. A Level A academic will normally have completed four years of tertiary study or equivalent qualifications and experience and may be required to hold a relevant higher degree. A Level A academic will normally contribute to teaching at the institution, at a level appropriate to the skills and experience of the staff member, engage in scholarly, research and/or professional activities appropriate to his or her profession or discipline, and undertake administration primarily relating to his or her activities at the institution. The contribution to teaching of Level A academics will be primarily at undergraduate and graduate diploma level.
