Post Summary The School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to assist with a project to evaluate the Genio Dementia programme. This position will appeal to anyone who wishes to develop their research career and profile. The post will be based in the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin, 24 D Olier st, Dublin 2. The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will receive training, guidance and support. The post is offered on a 36 month fulltime basis and the salary is commensurate with the IUA scale as above. This post is most suited to a person with a PhD in health services research or a related discipline. Key duties associated with the post include working with the Genio Dementia evaluation research team in the literature review, participant recruitment and data collection phases, as well as the analysis (to include economic analysis), interpretation, report preparation and dissemination as assigned. This position will also involve travel nationally in order to manage the 5 research sites and to collect data. From time to time, the appointee may be required to work after hours. Background to the Post The Genio Dementia Programme provides an exciting opportunity to examine the merits of a number of different approaches to integrated care for people with dementia within a community supports model that emphasises individualised supports and person-centred care. It is very important that the impact of the various interventions adopted to support integrated care in the Genio Dementia programme are assessed through a careful interpretation and economic analysis of the successes and failures within the various sites. This is also important for both the replication of positive findings and the sustainability of the overall community care model, which is central to the Genio vision for dementia care. This evaluation is underpinned by the RE-AIM
2 evaluation framework (Kessler 2013) as it is designed to enhance the quality, speed, and service improvement impact of the two initiatives 1) Integrated Care Pathways (ICPs) and 2) Individual Community Support projects. The evaluation will incorporate assessment of the: Reach - the penetration of the programme into its intended audience and the factors influencing the numbers of Persons with Dementia/carers supported by the initiatives. Efficacy or effectiveness - the programme outcomes and their impact on targeted groups to include factors such as quality of life, service utilisation patterns and resource consumption associated with dementia services. Adoption the participation rates/representativeness and factors influencing engagement of setting, agencies, organisations, and personnel involved in dementia care. Implementation the level of, consistency and factors influencing access to delivery, utilization and cost effectiveness of the pilot dementia ICPs (x3) and community support projects (x2). Maintenance potential for influencing the National Dementia strategy and for sustainability of the interventions over time to include effect on persons with dementia and dementia services, variance, and measurement of primary and secondary outcomes. The successful candidate will join an exciting multi-disciplinary and multi-partner research team focused on evaluating integrated care programmes for persons with Dementia. Person Specification Qualifications A PhD in health services research or a related discipline (Essential). A health economics background is desirable. Essential Knowledge and/or Experience: Postgraduate preparation in nursing, sociology, health economics, social policy, psychology or social research methods. Prior experience of quantitative methods and analysis. Experience of using SPSS or similar software package.
3 Excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills. Project management experience. Desirable Knowledge and/or Experience: Experience in dementia or related health care research. Data collection with vulnerable groups. Health care economics. Experience in publication. National and International profile The Schools national and international position may be gauged by the numbers of nurses and midwives successfully educated for clinical practice and research roles, its influence through the positioning of graduates in health and social care administrative and policy making roles, and development and dissemination of evidence-based practices to improve care. We are one of only two Nursing and Midwifery Schools in Ireland that have the midwifery profession and all nursing disciplines represented at undergraduate level. We graduate approximately 200 nurses and 60 midwives per year, and graduates of the School are in senior management and advanced clinical practice positions nationally and internationally.
5 We collaborate with 12 partner hospitals and health and social care partners and are actively involved in the development of care practices and cutting edge models of service delivery including the movement of care to the community and home. Our staff serve on local, regional and national care planning committees and taskforces, nursing and midwifery professional associations and on the boards of relevant health care, nursing and midwifery journals. We include nurses and midwives from partner health care providers, advocates and the consumers of services in many of our own School committees, in the delivery of teaching and in the design of research. Our research expertise is increasingly recognised in the areas of ageing, dementia, women s and children s health, mental health, cardiovascular disease, intellectual disability, caregiving, end of life and palliative care, and substance abuse.
