CLIL icorporates four elemets idetified as the 4 Cs, where culture is the uderlyig cocept for the other three aspects: cotet, commuicatio ad cogitio. 2 Culture, as the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, ad practices that characterizes a istitutio, orgaizatio, or group, is usually broke dow i 11 aspects for the sake of orgaizig iformatio. These aspects are: 1. Food 2. Clothig 3. Recreatio 4. Govermet 5. Educatio 6. Laguage 7. Religio 8. Trasportatio 9. Ecoomy 10. Eviromet 11. Arts These aspects or topics are easily foud i EFL materials. Therefore, it becomes evidet that there are umerous opportuities for likig cotet to culture i order to achieve these clear beefits of CLIL: Build itercultural kowledge ad uderstadig Develop itercultural commuicatio skills Provide opportuities to study cotet through differet perspectives You ca get started by followig five easy steps: STEP 1 Select a topic or aspect of culture from the course book you are usig. For example, select foods from aroud the world. 2

3 STEP 2 Fid a atural lik betwee the material i the course book ad real life. Try discussig food i differet cultures, healthy ad uhealthy eatig habits, ad various recipes. STEP 3 Fid authetic material that supports your choice ad ideas. A) Ask studets to choose oe of the pictures i the photo essay ad do oral presetatios where they ca ame the food they see, aalyze healthy ad uhealthy choices, ad compare with their ow typical diet. B) Have studets choose a coutry ad try out a recipe. STEP 5 Provide ecessary scaffoldig durig task. Geeral suggestios: Pre-teach ecessary vocabulary through pictures, midmaps, etc. Moitor studets` work ad provide laguage/grammar support as eeded, either idividually or for the whole class.
