3 Introduction The Preceptorship Development programme has been designed for you as a newly registered practitioner to assist in your transition from student to health professional within the Trust. All learning is individual, however it is envisaged that the 12 month programme will allow you to further develop your professional and reflective skills, which will assist you in becoming a competent practitioner. As a new registrant, the Trust anticipates that you complete a formal period of Preceptorship as outlined in this document and the Preceptorship Policy (2010). This programme is mandatory and therefore those involved are required to demonstrate commitment to this process by signing the following agreement. The Preceptorship programme comprises of three main components: a) Induction and orientation to the Trust and clinical area. b) Support, supervision and assessment reviews in the clinical area. c) Further development of professional skills you have already acquired, also the acquisition of new skills pertinent to your professional development, by attending a series of study days In conjunction with the Preceptorship programme the current CMFT Preceptorship policy explains definitions and roles and responsibilities. 4 Preceptorship Agreement A copy of this agreement should be kept by the line manager, preceptor and preceptee Preceptee Preceptor Line Manager Period of Preceptorship Start date. Progress review dates.. Preceptorship final review date.. We agree to meet on a monthly basis. We agree to use this time to review progress and discuss the preceptee s learning needs and objectives (see guidelines). We agree to support the mandatory preceptorship development programme, the agreed meetings and to review progress on these dates. 7 Day 2 Customer Service (facilitated by OD&T) Time: Aim: To identify the customers that we provide care for at CMFT and to demonstrate how to provide a high level of customer care, recognising possible barriers to this. To put ourselves in the shoes of our customers and identify what good and poor service looks like, sounds like and feels like 4. 8 Time Day 3 Work Life Balance and Teamwork Aim: To raise the awareness of stress in the workplace and identify coping strategies to deal with this. To recognise the importance of effective team working and explore how the preceptee can apply these principles in practice. Objectives 1. To identify and list, possible causes and symptoms of stress and explore different strategies and support mechanisms for dealing with it 2. Using different time management tools, discuss effective and ineffective time management and the consequences for the individual and the workplace 3. Using a five stage model, consider the art of delegation and its application in the workplace 4. List the benefits and barriers of delegation. 5. Identify key assertive behaviours and how to maximise and leverage own strengths and skills 6. Explore different styles of conflict and how to deal with them effectively 7. Explore, though self assessment how we deal with criticism and effective ways of dealing with it 8. Recognise the importance of understanding organisational climate and culture and the impact these have when handling conflict and conflict styles 9. List some of the theories of teamwork and the relevance of these in developing their own skills and capabilities. 10. Demonstrate using group experiential learning what performing under pressure, motivation, and managing relationships looks like and how this can be transferred into the workplace. 9 Day 4 Safe Practice and Professional Development E-learning Packages Aim: To function safely and effectively as an accountable practitioner who is able to make informed decisions about practice within local and national governance frameworks whilst using an improvement-based approach to quality in health care, Clinical Governance. 1.
