1 Job Description POST: SCHOOL: Speech and Language Therapy ssistant Hollington Primary cademy PY RNGE: Single Status Grade 5 to 6 RESPONSIBLE TO: HS Speech and Language Therapist and Senco Job Purpose To work directly with children and, where appropriate, their parents / carers in school, following a programme written and supported by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist. The post may involve assisting in group intervention. There is also a responsibility for preparation of materials for specific children as well as general resource preparation. reas of responsibility and key tasks: The responsibilities of the Speech and Language Therapy ssistant, under the direction of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and the school Senco, will be to: 1. Work independently with children, their families and relevant staff in settings as directed by the Speech/Language Therapist. 2. Support a Speech/ Language Therapist in the running of speech, language and interaction groups and to run groups independently following an agreed plan. 3. mend treatment plans within agreed boundaries and confirm this with the Speech/ Language Therapist. 4. Gather information about children and their families and record observations which contribute to the Speech/ Language Therapist s assessment and review. 5. Contribute to assessment and review in the form of monitoring children s progress against agreed targets. 6. Carry out specific assessments as directed and feed back the results for analysis by the Speech/Language Therapist. 7. Carry out pre-referral work with children and families in order to support prevention. 8. Make resources at the request of the Speech/Language Therapist. 9. Liaise with other relevant agencies, including Health, Education, Social Services and the voluntary sector as required by the Speech/Language Therapist. 10. ttend meetings, case conferences, review meetings etc. on behalf of the Speech/Language Therapist. 11. rrange appointments with families and within the school as needed. 12. ssist in general office duties such as filing, laminating, photocopying, dealing with messages and answering general queries. 2 13. ttend relevant in-service training courses etc. in relation to personal nnual Review. 14. Take a participative role at Speech and Language Therapy meetings and other team and school meetings. 15. Work to the relevant national and school standards and guidelines as directed by the Speech/Language Therapist. 16. dvise other professionals regarding appropriate referral to Speech and Language Therapy. 17. Participate in clinical supervision sessions. 18. Be prepared to visit client homes under the instruction of the Speech and Language Therapist so as to capture information for case histories and provide one-to-one therapy and model strategies and interventions to parents and care-givers in the home environment. This may involve working with children in more ad hoc circumstances such as at low table or on the floor. Employees will be expected to comply with any reasonable request from a manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.
