1 FRENCH YEAR: 1 (KS1) Colours numbers 1-12 animals The 12 Days of Christmas in French! Learning a familiar story but with French words forest animals things to eat on a picnic parts of the body. Seasons of the year Weather Introduction to phonics

2 FRENCH YEAR: 2 (KS1) Weather topic from end of Y1; Phonics gleaned from this topic; Children s song with new sounds repeated; Months of the year; Numbers up to 31. 3 FRENCH YEAR: 3 (KS2) Recapping the principal phonic sounds Looking at a French comic book Astérix and working out new words, recognising adjectives, cognates etc. Using sentence building blocks to create simple own phrases for frames Creating own bande desinée (comic strip) Classroom commands and responding to them quickly Learning some question words and then using them in sentences Using dictionaries to find out words and learning how to look for them Learning three different ways of saying my Recapping numbers up to 30, more if possible Months of the year and working out how to write them using phonics knowledge Making their own birthday trees in French

4 FRENCH YEAR: 4 (KS2) Clothes and gender Colours and adjectival agreement Patterns and different types of cloth Talking about what people are wearing using as much description as possible Learning about different areas that people live in Rooms of the house and their gender Learning some prepositions relating to positioning of rooms in a house The seasons, weather and activities they do in certain weather conditions (i.e. indoor and outdoor activities) Verbs relating to activities Building sentences using word blocks Learning about Bastille Day and making a poster about it

5 FRENCH YEAR: 5 (KS2) Learning some basic questions and question words Dictionary manipulation and employment Creating own questions from dictionary work and question words, with guided sentence structures and building blocks School subjects and classrooms Prepositions Food groups and items within each food category Healthy eating vs. unhealthy Expressing likes/dislikes and preferences for food Designing menus for their own cafés, using guided writing structures Different types of exercise which keep you fit To be able to describe someone s hair and eye colour using avoir To be able to describe someone s character using être To make a presentation on a celebrity of their choice, using as much description as possible.
