Moreover, students will listen to CD recordings of authentic conversations as well as watch movies appropriate for their level (with subtitles in English if available) in order to provide opportunities for them to hear a variety of different types of spoken English and allow them to acquire an ear for correct and clear pronunciation. To develop oral skills, students will be asked to remember short passages and recite them in class. Discussions on each reading passage will also be held, allowing students to express themselves and to use English in a non-threatening setting. There will be frequent review of materials covered in previous lessons, such as vocabulary quizzes and grammar exercises, in order to help students master important skills and to build on their previous knowledge. The class will consist of various hands-on group and individual activities. A variety of materials will be presented to students and they will have ample opportunities to master communication skills for use at the United Nations. Students will be asked to perform small skits and to practice their spoken English through role-plays, discussions, and presentations. There will also be various writing assignments covering a range of topics during class and for homework. Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Equivalent: B1 (Threshold)
