2 Information sur le projet Titre Code Projet N/A BG/05/C/F/TH Année 2005 Type de Projet Statut Pays Accroche marketing Résumé Développement d'innovation Clôturé BG-Bulgarie N/A The project "Development of a validation framework for mentoring evaluating the achievements of disabled and disadvantaged people" ("Validation of Mentoring") aimed to improved skills and competences of people with disabilities and disadvantaged by establishment a mentoring system, which provides work-based training at professional level. The disabled mentees was expected to gain real experience in the working environment, with their training based on the needs and requirements of employers, as well as on the needs and abilities of the mentees. The main task of the "Validation of Mentoring" project was development of new procedures, which provides systematic validation of knowledge and competence that the mentees have been acquired within the mentoring scheme. Validation was promoted as a major step towards the recognition of this form of training. Description Thèmes The project created two new placement programmes for people with disabilities in Romania and Slovenia. They raised substantially the expectations, self-confidence and ambitions of disabled participants. The development of the programmes improved the employability of participants by development of their overall skills and competences and provides role-models for disabled and disadvantaged people. All these activities assisted the understanding of disability among employers and trainers. The direct experience of working with people with disabilities in mentoring were remarkable effect in changing awareness towards more positive attitudes. The development of a robust system for validation of mentoring for people with disabilities provides a number of significant impacts, such as certification of participants; reliable and comprehensive procedures for validation, including evaluation of achievements, comparability in assessment of individual performance, systems for monitoring of mentoring relationships; integration of validation procedures into different systems. The project already produced five language versions of "Code of practice for validation of mentoring for people wtih disabilities". It have been tested in relation to experience in the UK and Bulgaria and applied according to references of the consulted institutions in the field. The content and effect of these codes of practice was coordinated in connection with the Europass system. The project extended the pool of potential employees (who already have some experience at a certain workplace). It contributes to common informal learning validation criteria at EU level and raises community awareness about removment both physical and attitude barriers. The project already developed methods of integration of training systems and practices. The CoP provides the basis for a structured process of self-assessment by the promoters of mentoring programmes. This process leads to the production of a Statement of Self- Assessment (SSA). The process of self-assessment will involve a thorough review of the procedures used in mentoring programmes and the outcomes achieved. As a second stage projects implementation will continue with definition of codes of practice and elaboration of two educational (supporting) packages. Addressed both to Mentors and Mentees. Organizations from Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria will recruit disabled mentees (In Slovenian case disabled and disadvantage). However its main essence is not simply replacing or replicating learning/formal education by more attractive and appealing forms of learning, studying and working. It solves the task of quality learning in the process of education and employment, which ensures achievement of higher results. Essentially they mean not something else but mentoring behaviour, mentoring, instructive, explaining tone, edifying, educating or instructive attitude. Of course, such tone or attitude is not very appropriate when talking with an equal partner, who knows and understands not less than you. In this respect we will refer throughout this document to the MV Quality Mark. In order to define the strategy to be applied, we undertook an analysis of other certification programs, including ECDL (European Computer Driving License) success story that was initiated in fact from the Leonardo Da Vinci Program. These international quality marks provided us with a number of actions that need to be considered in order to have the MV Quality Mark as largely propagated and implemented as possible. For this, we of course also considered the material already provided by partners during the previous meetings (especially French and Burt Ltd). A classification of related programmes concerned with nonformal and informal learning and their validation. This exercise leads to the identification of key variables that characterise the nature of mentoring and that highlight its similarities and differences with other forms of non-formal and informal learning. These issues are summarised in a table in Annex 1. A discussion, that links issues emerging from this classification exercise to wider themes concerned with mentoring and its validation as nonformal learning. A brief review of the areas of common interest between mentoring and other work concerning the validation of non-formal learning and of the opportunities for collaboration in the future.
