However, the role of forestry as a provider of a wide range of other goods and services has become more pronounced during the past decade. Some new jobs have been created and new skills have to be acquired, for example in the areas of recreation and of environmental education. This will put new challenges to the forest companies with more emphasis on producing non-wood goods and services for the public, ensuring the competitiveness of the new forest based activities. Some studies reveal two principal concerns for the forest industries: The deficient technological development of the sector, and the lack of appropriate education, training and skills, and conclude that 8 key skill should be promoted: technical knowledge, management skills and ICT skills (among others). For that, the European strategy propose the collaboration among companies and education and training institutions for promoting a training strategy focused on the exchange of best practices, and the elaboration of training packages in the framework of the lifelong learning Programme. iforest project aimed to: - Improve the qualification of the management staff of the Forest companies, helping generate new entrepreneurial environments; - Promote the development of key competence for life; - Strength the training activities on working environments; - Promote the collaboration among several actors involved in training strategies; In order to obtain these aims, the operational objectives of the iforest initiative were the following: -To analyse the forestry sector regarding to the innovation managements and the training needs of the management staff; - To detect the needs on innovation of the forest industries; - To adapt the imodel tool to the analyse requirements; - To elaborate a training tool based on ICT platform for facing the needs on innovation management of the staff of forest companies. The partnership of the IForest project was formed of different entities and organisms (professional organisations, training and university centres, development and management associations..) from 5 different member states, the have ensured project implementation quality and the achievement of the results and outputs foresee. Description: Considering the state of the art of the sector, characteristics of the sector enterprises, and the recommendations of several authorities (as appear in the previous section), iforest project aimed to: - Improve the qualification of the management staff of the Forest companies, helping generate new entrepreneurial environments; - Promote the development of key competence for life; - Strength the training activities on working environments; - Promote the collaboration among several actors involved in training strategies (enterprises/social actors/training institutions); and - Get betters the enterprises competitiveness, incorporating the innovation in the company Management. In order to obtain these aims, the operational objectives of the iforest initiative were the following: -To analyse the forestry sector regarding to the innovation managements and the 2

3 Information sur le projet training needs of the management staff; - To identify a set of practices on innovation management containing comparable elements on the tackled topic; - To detect the needs on innovation of the forest industries; - To adapt the imodel tool to the analyse requirements; - To elaborate a training tool based on ICT platform for facing the needs on innovation management of the staff of forest companies. Considering iforest aims and objectives, the project has improved the quality and innovation in vocational education and training systems, institutions and practices (LEO-SpObj-b) by means intended to create a flexible and adaptable methodological tool for vocational training in working environments. At the same time, the project has been focused on key competences for life, making necessary the collaboration of several actors (involved on training design) that allow the development of a friendly ICT based tool for e-training. After the elaboration of the iforest tool, the target collective could face to the needs generated by labour market (and global economy) and support the competitiveness and economic growth of both, the forestry sector and the companies. At the same time, the project supported the approach of the European Communication New Skills for new Jobs. Anticipating and matching labour market and skills needs COM(2008) 868 supports, promoting the collaboration between different social actors (business training institutions professional bodies) in order to improve and update the skills of the labour force, facing the futures challenges of the European economy. EUROPEAN APPROACH, a report containing the main trend about innovation in companies of forestry sector, case of studies and other resources (bibliografical references, useful links. etc.) that supported to understand the state of the art of the innovation in the forestry companies. GUIDE FOR TRANSFERABILITY OF imodel PROJECT A document containing the guideliens for the transference and the methodological approach. DOSSIER OF LEARNING CONTENTS Containing the english version of the learning contents. iforest LEARNING TOOL A learning environment that allows users to access the content (in different pathes according to their preferences and learning habits) and to communicate to other learners/readers and/or tutors/experts and to add own pieces of information relevant to the subject (allowing user generated content in a collaborative learning scenario). PROJECT WEB SITE, that contains all relevant topics and news about the project as well as information about how to contact with the participants. 3

Drupal is open source software maintained and developed by a community of 630,000+ users and developers. It's distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (or "GPL"), which means anyone is free to download it and share it with others. The Drupal project's principles encourage modularity, standards, collaboration, ease-of-use, etc. (among others) It's structured in three main areas: A -Training tool: It's composed of the different iforest modules. Learners could find 5 different modules: (1)Basic on innovation; (2) Managing creativity and knowledge; (3) Innovation management process; (4) Tools to support innovation; and (3) Sustainable innovation. Each module is developed according a common structure: Learning objectives; Introduction to the modules; Sections that contain the module development; Aditional cases (practical cases that support module content) and further readings (further resources related to the topic developed in the module - text, docuemnts, web site, videos, etc...). The modules are included according to a logical sequences to support any innovation process. But at the same time learnes can access to the module that they need to deal whith specific question in the company, or to learn about an specific process. That is, each module is considered as a learning objective, and learner can choose the module or modules that he/she need to learn more about one specific innovation input. This methodology improves the learning process, and allow customizing learning process. B - Resource library Contains different types of resources, which could support the learning process. Docuemnts, web site, on-line interactive tools, media, etc... related to the modules developed in the training tool. Learners can included new entries or make comments about the existent resources. C - Supporting innovation This section contains more on-line resources that could improve the innovation process or information about public and private bodies that could support and finance any innovation process in companies. This section is open to the registered users to upload new resources or to send comments about the resources contained in the iforest learning platform. In addition learners can find a blog. The blog is the iforest community, where learners could create and share knowledge about innovation, ensuring the collaborative work based learning. According to previous experiences of the partners, partnership decided to design a leaflet with basic information about the project (objetives, results, partners' contact, etc.) and include the results of the WP2 and an interview with an expert in the area of forest, innovation or/and business management. So, the leaflet has a common part (with basic information about the project and the results of the WP2 analysis) and specific part for each country, which introduces the specific situation of the country regarding the innovation, forest sector or bussines management. This allows having a wider scope about how the project will impact in each participant country and at European level. Innovation management and best practices Type de Produit: Autres Texte marketing: Training for innovation in forest companies Description: The report had two main objectives: In one hand, it had to be the first analysis (from an European approch) to detect the needs of forest companies regarding to innovation. So, the report presented the gaps and barriers in these companies to deal with the innovation. In other hand, we detected the perception (through the first sources) of the managers and other technical staff about the innovation processes in the companies. As results, the report offers interesting information about the - Status of forest industries on innovation; - Gaps and barriers that hinder innovation in the sector; and - Needs that have to be addressed. It was the basic to define the main characteristics of the learning tool and the transference process.
