1 JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SUPPORT STAFF JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: Assistant Site Manager Site Manager 1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB To support and deputise for the Site Manager in providing comprehensive site management services across the site with particular reference to site cleanliness and Health & Safety. To supervise and monitor the performance of the Caretaking staff and Cleaning Supervisor. To act as minibus driver when required. 2. DIMENSIONS The postholder is not responsible for managing the budget but will assist the Site Manager in managing the budget. The postholder would be responsible for managing the Caretakers and Cleaning Supervisor. 1

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (please refer to the attached notes before completing) In Conjunction with the Site Manager; 1.To fulfil the weekly and daily schedules of work Including; maintenance and repairs, cleanliness of the site, monitoring of health and safety checks, site security, and administrative work Percentage Time Spent 40% 2. To manage the caretaking staff and cleaning supervisor Including; developing a cleaning schedule, involving routine and, deep cleaning which will ensure the cleanliness of the premises at all times. ensuring that the buildings are cleaned in accordance with approved specifications, involving detailed monitoring of performance. ensuring that overall site cleanliness is maintained and that buildings are available for authorised use. cleanliness of the site, monitoring of health and safety checks, site security and administrative work. induction and training of new staff supervision and performance management of staff to manage absenteeism on a daily basis, organise cover and undertake any tasks necessary to cover staff shortages Maintain stock levels of cleaning supplies & equipment To arrange for any Maintenance and repairs to equipment, fixtures, fittings, furniture including the mini bus to be carried out Health and Safety; Security 35% Ensure that the building is secured and alarms set Dealing with any unauthorised persons on site Ensuring that overall site security is maintained and that the buildings are available for authorised use Adhering to Health and Safety regulations Carrying out Specified H&S checks and maintaining logs To be responsible for checking the mini bus on daily basis and before and after every journey. General Caretaking Duties Ensuring that the heating,plant and electrical systems are functional and maintained and managed in the most energy efficient way Ensuring that the fabric of the buildings is maintained by undertaking regular inspections Assist with portering duties as required Liaising with contractors and service providers on site and facilitating their work 10% 2
3 Lettings Liaising with the administrator responsible for lettings to ensure that the needs of the users are met Communicating with people letting facilities in the building Ensuring rooms are set up appropriately for lettings and for school use after lettings General Undertaking any reasonable instructions given by the Site Manager to allow for the safe and efficient running of the School Ensuring that all authorised users of the building are welcomed to Walton High and that their needs are met in a helpful manner Any other duties as requested by the Site Manager commensurate with the grade of the post. I 10% 5% 4. ORGANISATION (b) The Caretakers and Cleaning Supervisor would require daily supervision. The role of the Caretaker is to support and ensure the smooth, efficient and safe running of the school s premises and in particular to ensure that the premises are 3
4 cleaned to a high standard. To work alongside the existing evening caretaker. To monitor lettings. To be able to work as a minibus driver as required. The role of the Cleaning Supervisor is to supervise the team of cleaners to ensure that an efficient and proactive cleaning service is provided at Walton High. To undertake the full range of cleaning activities as required and to ensure that the buildings are cleaned to an acceptable standard and in accordance with the approved specification. (c) The Assistant Site Manager is accountable to the Site Manager. The Site Manager is responsible for leading security, maintenance, improvements and cleaning of Walton High s buildings, plant and equipment. The Site Manager has overall responsibility for managing a team of caretaking and cleaning staff. 5. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Education/Qualifications Experience Job Related Skills ESSENTIAL Full clean Driving Licence Authority to drive D1 Vehicles (minibuses or PSC licence Willingness to undertake further work related training Experienced in using a range of equipment and material to clean different surfaces in a large building such as a school Experience of maintaining equipment and materials in accordance with Health & Safety requirements Supervisory experience of a multi disciplinary team Effective organisational skills Ability to work on own initiative Routine vehicle maintenance skills Practical Skills, e.g. general maintenance and DIY Commitment to quality and continuous improvement Accuracy and attention to detail DESIRABLE Trade qualifications e.g plumbing, electrical, carpentry Working in a school 4
