1 HEADLONG THEATRE JOB DESCRIPTION DEVELOPMENT MANAGER Key Objectives of Post: Support the Artistic Director, Executive Director and Fundraising Consultant in delivering all aspects of fundraising activity. Achieve ambitious personal fundraising targets in order to facilitate the expansion of Headlong s provision for communities and artists around the country. With a particular focus on Trusts and Foundations, identify and exploit funding opportunities provided by Headlong Futures and other outreach and artist development programmes. With the Fundraising Consultant, nurture current and future individual and corporate philanthropists, including organising events and hospitality as required. With the Fundraising Consultant, take responsibility for the creation, management and monitoring of fundraising campaigns. Work with relevant departments at Headlong to report on the use of donations. Give the highest level of care and attention to all donors. Reports to: Responsible for: Executive Director N/A Salary: 32,000 Hours: Holiday: Notice Period: Full Time. Normal office hours are 10am 6pm Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work. No overtime or TOIL offered. 25 days per annum 3 months. Probation Period: 6 months.
2 Tasks and responsibilities: Trusts & Foundations fundraising Work with the Fundraising Consultant, Artistic and Executive Directors and Headlong Board to create and nurture relationships with trusts and foundations. Work with the Creative Associate and Outreach Leader to gain an excellent understanding of the scope, process and impact of Headlong Futures, Headlong s new community participation programme that will, through the language of theatre, create conversations between divided communities across the country. Identify and apply to large trusts and foundations to fund Headlong Futures, artist development programmes and other core activities, achieving a personal trust and foundations fundraising target. Identify and apply to several small trusts and foundations for all of the above work. Oversee evaluation of each initiative and report on the usage and impact of funding in a timely manner to maximize the potential for increase in support. Individual fundraising Ensure the highest standards of stewardship and cultivation for all donors at all levels, encouraging timely renewed donations and identifying opportunities for increased giving. With the Fundraising Consultant, Artistic and Executive Directors, research and approach new prospective donors. With the Fundraising Consultant, manage relationships with the Board to ensure that all leads are followed up and each member of the board is fully supported. Work with the Marketing team and Administrator to ensure that we are making increasingly good use of our data, mailing list and social media for fundraising purposes. Provide ideas for and execute all individual giving campaigns Monitor and record all developments related to fundraising activity on our Spektrix database. Report on the usage and impact of philanthropic income. Corporate fundraising With the Fundraising Consultant, Artistic and Executive Directors, be responsible for the research, generation and management of prospective corporate donors. Deliver corporate hospitality for current and future corporate donors, including budgeting, ticket management, catering and attendance as required. Plan and execute volunteering opportunities for companies. Prepare and write Corporate Trust applications where required Events Alongside the senior team feed into the creation of a fundraising gala, delivering the event to an excellent standard in a manner that maximizes gifts. With the Administrator, create and maintain an events calendar (cultivation and fulfillment) and ensure all relevant departments at Headlong are updated on relevant events. Support logistical set-up and delivery of all events including corporate hospitality and individual donor events Work with relevant departments to ensure effective ticket and holds management for events.
3 General To support Headlong s busy office as required Ensure Spektrix is kept up to date with all relevant information across the team, including approaches, pledges and donations Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required in the above post Represent and advocate for Headlong internally and externally Be familiar with and personally responsible for acting within the policies of the company To be present at events including evenings and weekends - as required
4 Person Specification: Essential skills Experience of fundraising, preferably in an arts or heritage environment Experience of taking personal responsibility for hitting fundraising targets, preferably at a small organization. Experience of applying to trusts and foundations, both large and small. A good understanding of individual and corporate fundraising. Ability to state a convincing, coherent fundraising case in person and in writing to a high level to all potential donors. Strong research skills Good administrative and organisational skills including meeting deadlines Accuracy and attention to detail Excellent networking skills and the ability to nurture contacts. Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills. A resourceful thinker with initiative and flexibility. Committed, energetic and motivated team player. Willingness to work outside normal office hours as and when required. Proficient in all Microsoft office applications. Desirable skills and attributes Experience of Spektrix database Interest in the arts, especially theatre Interest in all aspects of Development including events and donor relations Ability to communicate fluently about the artistic work of Headlong. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Title of Job: Executive Director. Employer: Headlong Theatre Ltd. Salary: 32,000 Holidays: 25 working days plus 8 public holidays per year. Time off in lieu (TOIL) applies, but you are paid at a level that reflects the need to work the hours required to fulfill the duties required. A contributory pension scheme is available.
