3 Our history Eastbury Manor House is a magnificent Grade I listed Tudor manor house, set in tranquil gardens. The house was built by Clement Sisley during the reign of Elizabeth I. It was originally in an isolated position, on rising ground with views of the Thames across marshland to the south. During the earlier part of its history, the house was known as Eastbury Hall and it was home to a number of Gentry families. By the 19th century Eastbury was inhabited by a succession of tenants such as yeoman farmers, butchers and graziers who bred cattle on the rich marshland pasture before selling them in the London markets. The house gradually fell into decay until it was purchased by the National Trust in Barking Borough Council took over the lease of the property in 1934 following restoration, and from 1935 to 1941 it was the local museum for Barking. Eastbury Manor House was recently refurbished with the help of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and now forms part of the Borough s Heritage Services. Eastbury is set within attractive grounds with a secluded inner courtyard, summer herb garden and private walled garden. The Manor House and Gardens provide an historic setting for your civil ceremony or special celebration. P a g e 3
4 Our services Our historic rooms at Eastbury Manor House are the perfect setting for your special day. We are able to accommodate a range of ceremonies, parties and functions to suit your individual requirements. This includes civil ceremonies, naming ceremonies, renewal of vows, wedding breakfasts and receptions, birthday parties, Mehndi ceremonies, wedding anniversaries, retirement parties as well as any other special event that you may have planned. We have a variety of historic rooms for hire including: the Old Hall, East Chamber, Summer Parlour, Winter Parlour, the Buttery, North-West and South-West Chambers, and Walled Garden. Some of the rooms have their own unique features such as original Tudor fireplaces, bee-boles, leaded-light windows, wooden floors and beams. We offer a professional and bespoke service for all our clients. Our range of services include: pre-event planning, catering, pay bar and audio-visual equipment, as well as guided tours of Eastbury for your guests. Rooms can be hired individually or as part of a package. We also work with a local supplier to provide wedding planning services and wedding reception packages. Due to the historic nature of the house, clients do not have exclusive use of the house. Eastbury s deeds of covenant, with the National Trust, states that we open to the public for the promotion of arts and heritage-related activities. However, for your function we do ensure that public access is restricted to the parts of the house that you are hiring. P a g e 4
5 Civil ceremonies and partnerships Celebrating a commitment to a loved one is a wonderful occasion and we look forward to helping you arrange your ceremony. Civil ceremonies Civil ceremonies offer the chance for you to get married without the religious connotations of a church wedding. This ceremony is for both opposite and same sex couples. For your special day you will need to book the Superintendent Registrar to conduct the ceremony. This will incur an additional cost to the hire of Eastbury Manor House. Please ensure you do this before booking our venue. For further information about civil ceremonies and the legal requirements please refer to: Civil partnerships Same sex couples can also celebrate their registration with family and friends at a ceremony conducted by a Celebrant. For your special day you will need to book the Superintendent Registrar to conduct the ceremony, which will incur an additional cost to the hire of Eastbury Manor House. Please ensure you do this before booking our venue. For further information about the difference between a civil partnership and a marriage please refer to: The Ceremony The civil or celebratory ceremony lasts 30 minutes and can include non-religious readings, and, or, music. Prior to the ceremony the couple is interviewed by the Registrars to ensure that all the details of the couple are correct. You can either make a grand entrance for the ceremony or walk in with the Registrars, as your guests will be seated and ready for your arrival. P a g e 5

Civil ceremony with venue package (booked with external supplier) One-hour hire of Old Hall, Summer Parlour and Walled Garden Civil ceremony in Old Hall** Tables and chairs Chair covers and sashes Dedicated and friendly wedding planner Flowers for the signing of the Register 449 (up to 70 guests) Please note: an additional fee is payable to the Registrar for conducting the ceremony. Booking your ceremony The Old Hall can be hired for civil ceremonies and partnerships until 4pm on Saturdays, 1pm on Sundays and, subject to the availability of the Registrar, until 4pm on Fridays. You are required to give a minimum of 16 days notice of your intention to marry or form a civil partnership. Ceremonies can be confirmed with the Registrar up to 12 months in advance of the date. You should contact the Registrar s office directly to make a provisional booking once you have checked our availability. 7 Wedding venue hire and packages We have a number of options to help you celebrate your special day. We are fully licensed and can be hired from 8am to 11pm (Friday to Sunday). Please contact our Commercial Operations Team should you wish our venue outside of these times. If you are on a budget you can dry hire our venue and supply your own decorations, music, refreshments and catering. Venue for wedding reception (booked with Eastbury Manor House) Hire of Eastbury Manor House s historic rooms Tables and chairs (without chair covers and table linen) We also work with a local wedding planner who can offer a range of packages ensuring that the arrangements for your special day are taken care of so that your wedding runs smoothly. Options include: Civil ceremony with drinks reception* (booked with external supplier) Two-hour hire of Old Hall, Summer Parlour, East Chamber and Walled Garden Civil ceremony in Old Hall** Two glasses of Bucks Fizz (per guest) Dedicated and friendly wedding planner Tables and chairs Chair covers and sashes Flowers for the signing of the Register 699 (up to 70 guests) Please note: an additional fee is payable to the Registrar for conducting the ceremony. 16 Facilities A cloakroom is available on the ground floor. Eastbury Manor House cannot take responsibility for any items left in these facilities. Toilets for men and women, as well as baby changing facilities and a wheelchair accessible toilet are situated on the first floor. They are accessible by stairs and lift. Lockers are available on the second floor. Eastbury Manor House cannot take responsibility for any items left in these facilities. P a g e 16

Blue Badge parking is available within the grounds. Parking for all other vehicles is available in the surrounding streets although guests are asked to be aware that it is a residential area. Please ensure that the Registrar can make your proposed date and time before booking at Eastbury Manor House. **Standard venue hire packages include four rooms and the walled garden. You can choose from the following rooms: Old Hall, Winter Parlour, Summer Parlour, East Chamber and the Buttery. If you require additional rooms they are charged at individual rates. **Deluxe venue hire packages include seven rooms and the walled garden. This package includes the following rooms: Old Hall, Winter Parlour, Summer Parlour, East Chamber, N/W Chamber, S/W Chamber and the Buttery. External supplier One-hour civil ceremony with venue package*** up to 70 guests 449 One hour civil ceremony with one-hour drinks reception*** Up to 70 guests 699 One-hour civil ceremony with buffet reception*** Up to 70 guests 2,999 All prices include VAT *** Provided by local supplier.
