2 JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Responsible to: Hours: Salary: GENERAL MAINTENANCE/ELECTRICAL REPAIR PERSON H&S Officer 35 hours per week 12,867pa Main purpose of post To assist the H&S officer in ensuring the organisation s sites and premises are safe places to work by carrying out routine maintenance work and undertaking a programme of Electrical Appliance Testing at all sites as required. 1. Main Duties Maintenance 1.1 To undertake maintenance work at AUKS s sites as required and requested by the H&S officer, according to own competency and capabilities including: minor repairs to furniture, walls, floors, doors etc, painting installation of shelving small plumbing repairs Cleaning guttering, pipes, windows 1.2 To report to the H&S officer any defects in the structure, equipment or fabric of the building or any other Health and Safety issues which may affect the safety of staff, volunteers and/or members of the public at sites visited. 1.3 To liaise site staff on arrival and as appropriate to confirm work to be undertaken and to identify any factors impacting on safety. 1.4 To ensure all work is carried out safely and appropriate risk assessments are undertaken. 1.5 To assist staff in moving and/or relocating equipment and furniture as required 1.6 To record all work undertaken keeping detailed records of expenditure and time taken to complete work allocated. 1.7 To undertake any other appropriate maintenance task requested Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) 1.8 To undertake training as required to be able to effectively use AUKS s Portable Appliance Tester 1.9 To develop a rolling programme of visits to sites to undertake PAT testing as appropriate and in accordance with legal requirements 1.10 To liaise with site/service managers on the most convenient date and time to undertake PAT testing and arranging for entry into the building as necessary To undertake PAT testing as agreed ensuring safe systems of work are followed To undertake any minor repairs within the capabilities of the post holder to make safe any equipment tested To label up all equipment tested with the Date and Expiry information 1.14 To remove from action any item that fails it PAT and to inform the site manager of items unsafe to use.

3 1.15 To produce PAT reports for each site, sending these to the H&S Officer in a timely manner 1.16 To be available to undertake PAT testing on request from shop managers to enable the sale of white goods and other electrical items. 2. Personnel To recruit, induct, develop and manage the performance of the staff and/or volunteers under the direct control of the post holder. 3. Finance 3.1 To comply with the organisation s financial and administrative procedures. 4. Service Development 4.1. To contribute ideas for the development or improvement of new systems and processes particularly in relation to the new service model of delivery. 5. Quality Assurance 5.1. To ensure high quality customer service is delivered to everyone who receives a service of any kind from the organisation 5.2 To ensure work is carried out in accordance with any quality assurance system, service standards or agreed targets in place. 6. External Relations 6.1 To ensure that everyone that the post holder comes into contact with whether in person or by telephone or other form of communication (regardless of their attitude) are dealt with in a friendly, courteous and efficient manner as expected of a caring organisation. 6.2 To develop and maintain good working relationships with individuals and organisations in the statutory, voluntary and private sector as appropriate and required for the role. 6.3 To promote the work of Age UK Suffolk whenever possible and appropriate, liaising promptly with other staff when transferring enquiries or making referrals to ensure a quick response is provided to the enquirer. 7. Internal Relations 7.1. Age UK Suffolk aims to maintain goodwill among all its staff and volunteers. 5 PERSON SPECIFICATION For GENERAL MAINTENANCE/ELECTRICAL REPAIR PERSON Age UK Suffolk uses a range of measurement factors to determine an applicant s suitability for appointment. In order to be short-listed for interview it is essential that you ensure your application demonstrates clearly how you already meet our personal criteria for this post giving examples where you can, or how you are prepared to gain the skills, knowledge and/or experience required. Responsibility Personal Criteria Experience, Skill, Ability or Knowledge required Maintenance Minimum two years experience in a similar role ideally within a multi sited organisation Sound knowledge of relevant H&S legislation and ability to assess risk and put in place safe working practice whilst carrying out maintenance work Experience of carrying out electrical repairs and PAT testing Experience of carrying out plumbing repairs Experience of carrying out general repairs Experience of painting/decorating Finance Ability to work within given budgets Volunteering Experience of working with volunteers Quality and Commitment to high standards of performance and customer care Customer Service Communications Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people Administration Good administration skills with ability to organise own workload Ability to develop work schedules and rolling maintenance programmes Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task ICT Ability to use ICT effectively Training Willingness to attend training Qualifications Relevant qualifications eg. Electrician, Plumber, PAT testing, Painter/ Decorator etc Self motivated and enthusiastic with a positive approach to work General Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines Own transport to enable extensive and regular travel across the county
