2 Executive Summary South Yorkshire Housing Association is a successful not-for-profit organisation with a strong commitment to the Sheffield City region. A Sunday Times best 100 Companies one to watch, we are a forward thinking, innovative and ambitious organisation, which is financially strong and currently own and manage 6000 properties, have a turnover of 45 million and employ nearly 500 staff. Beyond the provision of housing, 60% of our work is providing care and support, helping vulnerable people to remain independent. As the organisation continues to adapt to the changes in the social housing and care and support sectors it is increasingly important that we are able to offer our staff teams access to high quality learning and development which promotes personal ownership and responsibility. SYHA is now seeking an outstanding individual to join their HR team and lead their organisational development function. Reporting to the HR Manager, the main purpose of this role is to develop, deliver and maintain effective and innovative organisational development solutions to all areas of the organisation. As you will see from the information provided and from our website, we are a well respected and successful social housing and care and support provider. We own 6100 properties and run 25 supported housing schemes. Our main focus is on the Sheffield City Region but our boundaries extend beyond that. We are proud that we touch the lives of around 11,000 people every day. We think SYHA is a great place to work and we have spent a lot of time and energy over the last 2-3 years ensuring our organisation is fit for the future and that we can offer the highest quality service to our customers. We are a not-for-profit organisation, working in a highly competitive market which is currently subject to significant downward price pressure. This means the need to act commercially has never been more important. We have a strong business ethos we do in fact make a profit but use it to further our social purpose. Our culture is open and friendly and we believe work should be enjoyable and stretching. We are always striving to do better, so there is always more to do. The post of OD Manager is a new one for us. You will be key in ensuring that we continue to find solutions to strategic issues which affect the quality of service we deliver and our underlying financial base. We re looking for someone who has a proven track record of delivering high quality, innovative and inspiring OD and training services. Strong coaching and mentoring skills are a must, as are superb influencing and interpersonal skills with people at all levels, internally and externally. 9 Management competency framework SYHA s management competencies define the standards and behaviours we expect of all SYHA Managers. Managers from many areas of the Association were involved in the design of the model and thanks to their input we have a robust model which reflects the competencies we expect our managers to have throughout SYHA. The model covers 4 key areas: People how the manager develops and manages people Service Excellence how the manager ensures their team delivers an excellent service to our customers Leadership how the manager demonstrates excellent leadership Self how the manager is self-aware, reflects and adapts their behaviours Under each area are five competencies which describe what our managers should do to demonstrate he or she fulfils their role; we use the management competency model to assess the skills and abilities of our management team. 11 Organisational Development Manager At SYHA our purpose is to enable people to settle at home, live well and realise their potential ; this applies equally to our customers and our staff. Key to enabling our staff teams to realise their potential is the opportunity for them to access high quality learning and development which they are responsible for taking personal ownership of. The main purpose of this role is to develop, deliver and maintain effective and innovative organisational development solutions to all areas of the Association. You will have responsibility for the organisation and delivery of training and development activities for all employees including inductions, statutory requirements, personal & professional skills, and leadership and management development. Key things that you will need to make happen are: Develop, agree and deliver an organisational development plan which aligns with corporate strategic objectives and supports identified changes. Provide one-to-one coaching and offer support to improve performance where required Organisational Development Manager SYHA 11

12 Develop and maintain effective learning and development tools and policies to ensure that our people have the skills to deliver SYHA s objectives. Design and deliver training around personal & professional skills, and leadership and management development Develop SYHA s approach to talent management and succession planning and co-ordinate the contributions of key stakeholders to ensure effective implementation Develop coaching and mentoring interventions to support staff development and the achievement of Personal Development Plans Drive employee engagement with line managers and lead on the employee engagement survey Lead on the maintenance and ongoing development of SYHA s in-house leadership development programme, LeadWell Ensure that statutory, mandatory and update requirements are met for all staff grades within the Association Organisational Development Manager SYHA 12

13 You must be able to demonstrate the following: Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills at all levels, internally and externally. Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills. Superb coaching/mentoring skills. Effective planning and project management skills with the ability to set and work to (personal, team and organisational) deadlines. Excellent change management skills. Event design and facilitation skills. Numeracy and the ability to analyse quantitative and qualitative data Self-motivation, enthusiasm and results-focus. A flexible, adaptable approach and evidence that you are comfortable with ambiguity. Pragmatism and a focus on developing solutions The ability to move between big picture and detail. 14 An up to date knowledge of theory and good practice in key areas: Organisation development, particularly around change management and developing organisational culture Learning & Development, particularly management development and talent management An OD qualification, or equivalent professional knowledge gained through significant experience working in OD or HR Experience of, and commitment to, continuous organisational improvement and the ability to act as a change agent. Other desirable requirements of the role holder: Membership of the CIPD Accredited in relevant psychometric tools e.g. MBTI, Discovery Insights Accredited by the Institute of Leadership & Management Organisational Development Manager SYHA 14

A short speed interview on 3rd June 2014 which will be designed for us to quickly get a feel for your aspirations, experience and approach 2. Successful applicants from the first round will be invited to take part in a second stage of selection, which will consist of: A competency based interview, which will include you describing to us your own learning journey An opportunity for you to deliver a development session to staff from across SYHA This stage will take place on 24th, 25th or 26th June 2014 In addition you will be required to complete a number of psychometric tests.
