Supported by our Patron, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland, the Trust has succeeded in improving the lives of more than 10,000 women since its establishment in 1885 by Lady Musgrave, then wife of the Governor of Queensland. The Lady Musgrave Trust s services fill an important niche in Brisbane s homeless services sector by providing young women in need with short to medium-term accommodation. The Trust also offers vital counselling services to help young women come to terms emotionally with the domestic violence, relationship breakdown, family conflict or financial crisis that may have triggered their homelessness. All of the Trust s services are designed with a view to preserving their clients privacy, safety and wellbeing. The professional and sensitive services boast an incredible success rate due to compassionate personal delivery that helps each woman take back independence and regain dignity to shape her future. These young women, touched by tragedy, could easily be our daughters, our mothers, or our friends. This year, The Trust celebrated a milestone anniversary, 130 years, and commenced a major transformation with new partnerships in the homelessness sector and new accommodation acquisitions, which will ultimately result in the Trust assisting 200 women and children per year. 3 About The Lady Musgrave Trust The Lady Musgrave Trust continues to change the lives of many young women in need in Queensland every year through the provision of essential and often life changing accommodation. The young women who use these services, aged between 18 and 30, often come from violent or abusive backgrounds, and are in desperate need of shelter. As these women also sometimes have young children, the Trust provides them and their young families with a fresh start in life that would otherwise not be available. It is through the provision of accommodation and other vital support services, such as employment support and counselling, that the primary mission of the Trust is achieved. The History The Lady Musgrave Trust is Queensland s oldest charity, having been established in 1885 by a group of community-minded women under the leadership of Lady Jeanie Lucinda Musgrave, wife of the then Governor of Queensland. Established by women, to help women, the Trust has supported the Queensland community for 130 years, keeping alive the original vision of the Trust and preventing many women and their young children from facing homelessness. The Board and Executive The Lady Musgrave Trust is governed by a carefully selected Board of Directors who donate their time, along with the support of a full-time CEO. We have a passionate commitment to the work of the Trust and are dedicated to saving and enhancing the lives of young women in Brisbane. The Trust is proud to have His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland as its patron. About The Shelter Me Campaign The Trust s research has identified that in Queensland in any calendar quarter, approximately 350 women and 1200 children under the age of 9 are living in motels with no cooking or laundry facilities due to their critical circumstances. This is primarily due to a significant shortfall in suitable accommodation for extended periods of time and the women are afraid to return home. In Brisbane there are 10 times more beds for homeless men than women and there is significant demand for urgent two to three night accommodation for young women at risk of homelessness. 2

4 The Trust s solution to addressing these issues is the Shelter Me campaign - a project designed to combat homelessness that involves a staged property (capital) transformation including procurement of a mix of new unit purchases, a rapid re-housing approach, and counselling services for improved wellbeing, education and employment outcomes. With your help we are planning to acquire a combination of studio units, and one and two bedroom units throughout 2016 assisting up to 200 women and their children per year. In addition to capital costs, there is a cost to care for these women and children. For every 36 individuals assisted in a month (12 female adults and 24 children), the cost is $20,000. Your company will also receive six complimentary tickets to our two major functions in 2016 plus the Annual Homelessness Forum. Also included is a feature sponsor article in the Trust newsletter and advertising space for a 12 month period.
