Calrie infrmatin is required t be psted fr each fd and beverage item, as packaged. Health Vending Prduct Specificatins Department f Parks and Recreatin (DPR) adpted a Healthy Vending Plicy which gverns the types f beverage and fd prducts that can be sld n Arlingtn Cunty prperty thrugh vending machines. In prviding vending prducts and services under this agreement, the Cntractr shall cmply with the terms f the nutritin s and shall ffer fr sale nly such prducts that cnfrm t the requirements set frth belw. A list f fd and beverage examples that cmply with these guidelines are available upn request frm the DPR, Office f Cmmunity Health (See list as f December 1, 2013 Appendix A, B). The healthy vending cmmittee will peridically review and revise the prduct specificatins as needed, but at a minimum n an annual basis frm the date f their implementatin. This review will take int cnsideratin implementatin prgress and ensure the nutrient s cntinue t meet r exceed current dietary recmmendatins based upn the latest scientific evidence. Appendix A and B have been apprved as the acceptable prducts and prvide instructins n hw the different types f machines are t be stcked/re-stcked. The Cntractr may recmmend a cmparable prduct line but the Cntractr must secure preapprval f any prducts nt listed n this plangram. Discretin is left up t the Cntractr n hw many f each prduct is prvided unless specified therwise belw. CHILDREN - Require all machines that are accessible t children (cmmunity centers, public schls, parks, public areas, etc.) cntain items that meet the Natinal Schl Lunch Prgram and Schl Breakfast Prgram: Nutritin Standards fr All Fds Sld in Schl as Required by the Healthy, Hunger- Free Kids Act f 2010, hereafter referred t as the USDA Cmpetitive Fd Standards. In additin, the snack prducts will be nut-allergen free and may nt cntain apple ingredients (fresh apples, dried apples, apple sauce, apple juice, etc.) frm China. The beverages must be withut artificial sweeteners and caffeine-free with the exceptin f trace amunts f naturally ccurring caffeine substances. Per the USDA Cmpetitive Fd Standards, all individual SNACK prducts stcked in machines designated as serving CHILDREN must have: N mre than 200 calries per package N mre than 35% f calries frm ttal fat per package Seed and seed butters, and reduced fat cheese are exempt frm the ttal fat

3 3 If drinking water is readily available in the vicinity f the vending machine, unflavred seltzer water r flavred seltzer that use natural flavrs with n added nutritive sweeteners r artificial sweeteners may be substituted fr the 2 slts f water Require a maximum f 2 slts/buttns t stck high calrie beverages (mre than 40 calries per 8 fl z), such as 100% juice. The 2 slt limit applies n matter hw many slts are in the machine Require water and seltzer be placed at eye level, r in the highest selling psitin; High calrie beverages shuld be placed farthest frm eye level, r in the lwest selling psitin Require calrie infrmatin is psted fr each beverage, as packaged Require nt stcking prducts that cntain artificial flavrs, artificial clrs, artificial sweeteners, r ther nn-nutritive sweeteners (e.g. stevia, erythritl) ADULTS- Require 50% f all the items in snack machines that are accessible t nly adults (emplyee sites, teacher s lunges, etc.) meet the USDA Cmpetitive Fd Standards as utlined abve. The percentage f snack prducts that meet the USDA Cmpetitive Fd Standards will increase by 25% quarterly until 100% f the prducts cmply. Prducts that cntain these cmpnents must be apprved by DPR n a case by case basis Require calrie infrmatin is psted fr each beverage (separate psters may be used if hung n the machine) Signage shuld nt encurage the cnsumer t add sugar r cream. Sustainability It is recmmended that the cntractr give preference t prducts in recyclable r cmpstable packaging and ffer sme rganic, lcal, r dcumented sustainably grwn prducts. It is als suggested that they label prducts that are rganic, lcal, r dcumented sustainably grwn, use Energy Star certified machines, and use energy cnservatin methds such as LED lighting and ccupancy sensrs that can be added t existing machines (refrigerated and nnrefrigerated).
5 Tastings, Public Educatin and Market Research The Cntractr agrees t hst up t fur marketing events per year thrughut the DPR facilities. The events shall include tastings and healthy snack chice educatin. The Cntractr will bear the cst f the snacks and beverages fr the marketing events. The Cntractr is encuraged t expand the cnsumer s knwledge and understanding f the imprtance f healthy vending and the nutritinal value fund in the Cntractr s prducts. The Cntractr is als encuraged t cnduct basic market analysis during the tastings, seeking infrmatin frm custmers n buy/snacking habits. Any infrmatin r marketing must nt cnflict with thse prvided by the Office f Cmmunity Health. 5
