3 WEDDING PICTURE PERMITS Slater Park s Marconi Garden is available for weddings and photos. Permits are available at the Park office. **Photos only: (45 minutes)** $20. residents $25. non-residents **Wedding ceremony and Photos: (90 minutes)** $40. residents $50. non-residents ***************** VETERANS FLAG PROGRAM The Parks & Recreation Division honors our nation s veterans, who have passed away, through the Veterans Flag Program. The program offers the opportunity for families of deceased veterans to have their personal funeral flag fly over the Pawtucket War Veterans Memorial Scallop Shell in Slater Park. The flag would be flown for a two month period and then returned to the family. For further information about the program call John Blais at , extension 257. It is a great opportunity to fulfill community service hours through your school. -4- PAWTUCKET CITY HALL CONCERT SERIES Pawtucket Parks & Recreation will be sponsoring the summer concert series at Veterans Amphitheater adjacent to Pawtucket City Hall. The concerts start at 6:00 p.m. All shows are free and open to the public. Parking is available across the street from City Hall. July 10: Arthur Medeiros Swing Band Forever popular swinging sounds kick off the Riverfront Concert Series Season!!! July 17: Big Cat Blues An evening of all forms of the blues that will bring high energy, and have you dancing in your seat. July 24: Terri Givens Terri s sweet and distinct voice returns to perform jazz and pop music standards like The Look of Love, Summer Wind and Luck Be a Lady July 31: Hugo Gonzalez and Trovodores A night of great Latin traditional folk music performed with a powerful and passionate sound. The perfect start to a date night with your significant other. August 7: The Moldy Suitcases A unique style of underground 1920 s Jazz meets a jug band full of rock. A great visual and audio experience. August 14: Acoustic Drive Local musicians combine to provide an evening of electric driven acoustic classic and modern rock. August 21: Czesare Santana Latin Alternative Folk/World Music/Singer/Songwriter Czesare combines the musical richness of his latin roots with the powerful message of his lyrics. Recent recipient of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Award. Performance dates are tentative dependent upon inclement weather. 5 THURSDAY EVENING **ARTS IN THE PARK** SUMMER CONCERT SERIES Looking to unwind after work???? The Thursday Night Concert Series in Slater Park returns with a wide variety of music. Concerts take place on the stage in front of Daggett Farm. Showtime every Thursday is at 6:00 p.m. July and August. July 7: Ronnie & the Satellites 50 s & 60 s sound doing hits like Last Night I Dreamed, Blue Moon, Dream Of You and many others. July 14: The Jesse Liam Band Unique style of talent with renditions of pop hits from 50 s to artists of today - July 21: Tony Funches The former lead vocalist of the 50 s sensation, The Platters. Tony brings their hits to Slater Park including Only You, Smoke Gets in your Eyes and many more. July 28: The Boot Hill Band Bringing their own style of musicianship to great country classics such as Folsom Prison Blues, Fire On the Mountain, Tulsa Time and many more... August 4: : John Connors & the Irish Express Performing the great standards that take you to Ireland! August 11: Throwback to the 60 s Step back into the time machine and enjoy great classics like Wooly Bully, Hank on Snoopy, I Think We re Alone Now and more August 18: 5 Flavor Discount A night of music that will have you on your feet. From funk to dance to rock and all in between!!!! During periods or potential inclement weather, the concert may be rescheduled or moved to the Slater Park Pavilion (located in the carousel parking lot). Daggett Farm is open daily, free of charge, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is home to a variety of farm animals and local plant life. The Farm is host to free Tuesday Night Antique Car Shows and Thursday Night Concerts. Did you also know.. The Daggett Farm picnic area could be a great venue for your next outdoor event including Kids birthday parties, BBQs, horse shoe tournaments and more Visit Daggett Farm and consider the possibilities. 6 OUTDOOR EXERCISE CLASSES IN SLATER PARK The following programs will start JUNE 20 and run for eight weeks throughout the summer (estimated to end August 10th). Classes will be rescheduled after August 10th in the event of inclement weather and the 4th of July. Daggett Farm & RIARC Greenhouse Call for hours of operation and special gift arrangements ************************ Historic Daggett House Located in Slater Memorial Park, this home is furnished with unusual period antiques, including Colonial pewter used in the Revolutionary War and china owned by General and Mrs. Nathanael Greene and the Daggett Family. Outstanding needlework and furniture. Also, many Civil War articles including several uniforms, and pieces of the Monitor and the Merrimac. 8 TUESDAY EVENING CHILDREN'S ENTERTAINMENT SERIES A variety of free children s performers will be presented in Slater Park for children and families from July 5 until August 16. ***Showtime is 6:00 p.m.*** July 5: LON CEREL A fun night of magic. Voted RI s Best Party Entertainment 3 Years in a row July 12: Jedlie s Magic Circus Kids will love becoming the star of the show!!! An inter- active one man show bringing magic, comedy and music to the Slater Park stage July 19: The Great Baldini The Great Baldini has been entertaining folks just like you with his unique style of humor and magic. The Great Baldini has something for everyone in his box of tricks; he also has nothing up his sleeve! July 26: He is known to his audiences as "America's Musical Pied Piper". He performs shows that encourage audience participation, including "T-Bone's Camp Muckalucka". Find your favorite performers on... 8 SLATER PARK SUMMER DAY CAMP The City of Pawtucket offers a summer day camp program in Slater Park for all Pawtucket residents ages 6 to 13 years old. The 2 -three week session program includes supervised activities and a free lunch. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp. No camp August 8th (VJ Day) WHEN: Mondays thru Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. WHERE: Drop off & Pick up at the Picnic Grove STARTS: Session I : Tues., July 5 to Friday, July 24 Session II: Monday, July 27 to Friday, August 14 COST: $10 per session REGISTRATION INFORMATION Parents must register each child in person, with the following : The registration form, completed and signed. Payment. Two (2) required items showing proof of residency in Pawtucket, a driver s license and a progress report or report card received from the camper s Pawtucket school during the schools calendar year. Additional details are noted in application packet. (see below) Space is limited on a first-come first-served basis. Limited spaces will be available for a child to attend both sessions if requested at point of registration. The remainder must choose session 1 or session 2. Registration begins Friday, May 27 at the Slater Park Pavilion at 9:00 a.m. and continues at the Slater Park office if necessary, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. until camp is full. 9 YOUTH TENNIS CAMP Ages: 5 to 18 years old Starts June 27 until August 10th Where: Mike Kenny Tennis Courts in Slater Park. INSTRUCTIONAL LESSONS For new players or players who need work. Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays: 5-7 years: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. 8-9 years: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. 10 to 13 years: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. 14 to 18 years: 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. ADVANCED LESSONS For players who are fundamentally sound. Tuesdays & Thursdays: 10 to 13 years: 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. 14 to 18 years:10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Instructional or Advanced Camp fee: $50.00 residents $75.00 non-residents plus a can of new tennis balls. ************************************************** YOUTH CO-ED SINGLES & DOUBLES LEAGUES Open to boys and girls ages 14 to 18 years. The nearby carousel will be open before, during and after the performances August 2: Keith Munslow An award-winning performer who combines music, storytelling, visual art and improvisation, he has entertained thousands of children and adults August 9: Grammy Award winning Artist and 2016 inductee into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame Bill Harley A family-fun evening of singing and storytelling. 10 LOOFF CAROUSEL IN SLATER PARK The Slater Park Looff Carousel, adjacent to the Daggett House, is the oldest Looff stander carousel in the world. The carousel was built by pioneer craftsman Charles I.D. Looff in 1895 and was installed at Slater Park in It has 44 horses, 3 dogs (rare), 1 lion, 1 camel, 1 giraffe, and 2 chariots. SUMMER HOURS OF OPERATION Opened Daily starting July 5 11:00 a.m. To 5:00 p.m. (8 pm Tuesday nights during Children s performances..see page 9 for detailed dates) BIRTHDAY PARTIES AT THE LOOFF CAROUSEL Birthday parties at the Looff Carousel are available beginning May 2. Parties are held during normal operating hours. The cost is $95.00 for two hours. Veterans Park has a playground, tennis courts and picnic grove directly adjacent to the pool. 11 Programs for Adults Color Me Calm Coloring Club Thursdays June 23, July 14 and August 11 From 6:30pm-7:30pm The Pawtucket Public Library will be hosting a monthly Coloring Club! As our lives become busier with each passing day and technology is ever more present, our access to work, obligations, and stress increases. Constant stimulation and unrealistic expectations have left us burnt out and distanced from the present moment. Color Me Calm examines the benefits of putting pencil to paper and offers adults an opportunity to channel their anxiety into a satisfying, creative accomplishment. Join us for a fun and relaxing program of filling in detail coloring pages along with others. This program is free and open to all ages. No registration is required. The Pawtucket Library Book Club June 16, July 21 and August 25 From 7:00pm to 8:30pm Join our new book club! Each month the Pawtucket Library Book Club will be reading and discussing a new book. Come meet other book lovers and participate in a stimulating literary discussion. Check on our website to see what book we are currently reading. To sign up for the club, please contact Tom Frawley at tfrawley@pawtucketlibrary.org or (401) x Children of all ages can be Summer Readers. Sign-ups start Thursday June 30. There will be early registration at the kickoff party on Wednesday, June 29. The goal: read twelve hours or more during the summer. Summer Readers Read on their own or with family and friends Record the number of minutes/hours they read Report three times at the library or bookmobile Receive free admission passes and prizes! All reading counts including whole books, chapters, reading list books, magazines, comic books, graphic novels, newspapers, audio books, EZone e-books and anything else that has a title and an author. Reach your reading goal and enter to win!... Summer Readers who reach the reading goal will receive a certificate completers gift bag and also be able to enter the Saturday August 13 raffle (you do not need to be present to win). There is a separate raffle and prize for the Alternative Readers. Summer Reading Program runs from 6/30 to 8/18. The statewide Rhode Island Summer Reading Program is supported by the RI Office of Library and Information Services with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Pawtucket Red Sox,. Local support includes RI Children's Librarians, the Friends of the Pawtucket Public Library, McDonalds, and the Pawtucket Library s Caidin Fund.. 11

12 Great for pre-readers and activity reading 25 fun activities that incorporate reading Many of the activities can be completed during Library Story Classes (10:30 am every Tues, Wed, &Thu) Check-off each activity as you complete them Report (if you want) up to three times for admission passes and prizes. A special completer s bag will be given to the children that complete all 25 activities. Raffle drawing for kids that completed all 25 activities on August 13 (you do not need to be present). Anime Club 6:00-8:00pm on June 2, July 7, & August 4 Enjoy pizza and Japanese Anime with other teens. We watch all genres! Library Campbell Auditorium.
