2 Dear Team Captain: Thank you for your interest in serving as a Team Captain for the 9 th Annual LETR Plane Pull for Special Olympics Southern California. It is sure to be a great even with loads of competitive spirit, all to raise funds for Special Olympics Southern California. The event will be held Saturday, August 23 rd beginning at 10:00am at the Long Beach Airport at 2019 E. Wardlow rd. in Long Beach. Free parking will be available on-site. Free Lunch will be provided for all participants. This Team Captain Packet has all of the tools you need to get started: 1. Online Registration Instructions: Step-by-Step directions show you and your teammates how to easily register and create an online fundraising page. 2. Plane Pull Overview- Brief description of the Plane Pull along with the Award Categories and Incentives. 3. Tips on asking for donations. 4. Sample Donation Letter: A great template to help you start spreading the word and collect pledges. 5. Pledge Form: As a team captain you will create a team fundraising page. You should also encourage each of your team members to create their own personal fundraising page. This will be the most effective way for your team to reach your fundraising goals, and it allows each team member to send out requests to their friends, family, classmates, and co-workers for pledges and donations. We have included a paper pledge form for team members to track donors who prefer to pledge by check or cash. Each team is required to raised a minimum of $1,250, which is $50 per person. 6. Team Roster: The team roster is for the Team Captain s use to keep track of their team members information. We ask that you send the team roster to Brandon Tanner, by Friday, August 16 th. This important so that we have the sizes for each team member s t- shirt. 7. Donor Receipts: These can be used for cash or check donors that want a receipt. 8. Waiver: All pullers and participants must complete the enclosed waiver in order to enter plane pull participant area. If a team member registers online, they will complete the waiver online. If not they will need to bring the attached waiver with them on the day of the event. Team slots are limited, so please register online to reserve your spot. If you have any questions about fundraising, need help filling your team, or just need some workout tips to get you ready to pull, do not hesitate to reach out as well. Thank you for your support of the 2014 Law Enforcement Plane Pull for Special Olympics Southern California. Organize a team which must be made up of 25 people and raise a minimum of $1,250. Each team will be timed as they attempt to pull the 164,000 pound plane 12 feet. The team that pulls the aircraft 12 feet in the shortest amount of time wins. 3 Plane Pull Overview Each Team must have 25 members and raise a minimum of $1,250 or $50 per person to participate. 4 Creating Online Fundraising Pages Kintera is a simple and efficient way to raise money online for the Plane Pull. Each puller can create his/her own fundraising page for free and blast it out to their friends, family, and co-workers, making it easy for supporters to securely donate online. This info sheet will help get team members started in creating their own fundraising page. PLEASE NOTE: Team fundraising pages must be set-up first by the Team Captain, then invites can be sent to team members to setup their individual fundraising pages, allowing for accurate tracking of the team fundraising goal. Creating an individual fundraising page is easy and fast! 1. Visit and click Register. 2. Agree to the Online Waiver (print a copy of the waiver for your records) 3. Decide if you want to "Start a Team" to fundraise with a group, "Join a Team" that is already fundraising, or "Join as an Individual" and fundraise on your own. 4. Create a username & password. Be sure to write down your username & password. 5. Complete the registration form, set up your fundraising account, and create a URL for your fundraising page. 6. Use the available tools and templates on your fundraising page to ask friends and family to pledge you and help support Special Olympics Southern California. Once you have registered, you can log into your account by visiting the Login page. From your account, you can update your fundraising page with personal information, photos, and videos; send s asking friends and family for support; and track your progress. 5 Ask through Tips on making the ASK for pledges or donations Why it works: Everyone reads . It s quick and effective and most people are comfortable with online transactions. Pre-written fundraising s: Use our template s available in the tools sections on your fundraising page. Customize your signature: Insert a short line and a link about the Plane Pull so you can fundraise with every you send. Ask in Person Why it works: The face-to-face ask is powerful and hard to deny, but here are a few tips to help you. Use our fundraising talking points as an icebreaker. Print and hang a sign-up or donation form on your desk at work with a donation jar. Start a Penny War at work or at your children s school. It s a great way to get kids involved. Be ready with a small thank you gift, like candy, and follow-up with a more formal thank you within a few days. Ask on Facebook Why it Works: These days, Facebook and other social media are the primary means of connecting with friends and family, so it s a natural companion to fundraising. Posting regularly is an effective way to update everyone (including your team members) of your team s fundraising progress. 7 Plane Pull Team Roster (Page 2) Important Facts for Team Captains On event day, we ask that the Team Captain check-in at the registration table for their entire team. As a captain, you are responsible for collecting and submitting all money raised by your group. All participants must sign a waiver of liability either online or on the day of the event. Teams must raise a minimum of $1,250 by event day in order to compete and for each team member to receive the official Plane Pull t-shirt. Pull times are randomly assigned; a drawing will take place on the Tuesday before the event. In order to be in the drawing, your team must meet the minimum amount raised by. 9 SPECIAL OLYMPICS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, FEDEX EXPRESS, WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT ( AGREEMENT ) In consideration of participating in the Special Olympics Southern California Plane Pull Activity, I represent that I understand the nature of the aircraft pulling events and that I am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such an Activity. I acknowledge that if I believe event conditions are unsafe, I will immediately discontinue participation in the Activity. I fully understand that aircraft pulling events involve risks of serious bodily injury, including permanent disability, paralysis and death, which may be caused by my own or others actions, or inactions, or those of others participating in the event, the conditions in which the event takes place, or the negligence of the releasees named below; and that there may be other risks either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at this time; and I fully accept and assume all such risks and all responsibility for losses, costs, and damages I incur as a result of my participation in the Activity. I hereby release and discharge Special Olympics Southern California, Federal Express Corporation (FedEx Express), its parent and affiliated companies, and their respective administrators, directors, agents, officers, volunteers, and employees, other participants, any sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises on which the Activity takes place, (each considered one of the RELEASEES herein) from liability, claims, demands, losses, or damages on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the releasees or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations; and I further agree that if, despite this release, waiver of liability, and assumption of risk, I or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the Releasees, I will indemnify, save, and hold harmless each of the releasees from any loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may incur as the result of such claim. I have read this RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT, and understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it and have signed it freely and without any inducement or assurance of any nature and intend it be a complete and unconditional release of all liability to the greatest extend allowed by law and agree that if any portion of this agreement is held to be invalid the balance, notwithstanding, shall continue in full force and effect. 10 Additional Event Activities High Flying Classics Car & Motorcycle Show Come check out the cars, trucks and motorcycles on display at the 5th Annual High Flying Classics Car & Motorcycle Show.
