Daggett Farm is open daily, free of charge, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For further information, contact Chris Crawley at , extension 272. RENTAL SPACE FOR PRIVATE PARTIES/ COMPANY PICNICS The Plains area in Daggett Farm is now available for parties and company picnics. The area features four regulation sized horseshoe pits, 12 picnic tables, a large grassy area, electrical outlets, three grills, and has a capacity for 200 people. For rental fees, call the Slater Park office at , extension 252. SUMMER GARDENING CLASSES at Daggett Farm Greenhouse Sponsored by URI Master Gardeners and the Arc of Blackstone Valley, classes are free and open to all. 3 SLATER PARK LOOFF CAROUSEL The Slater Park Looff Carousel, adjacent to the Daggett House, is the oldest Looff stander carousel in the world. The carousel was built by pioneer craftsman Charles I.D. Looff in 1895 and installed at Slater Park in It has 44 horses, three dogs, one lion, one camel, one giraffe and two chariots. The carousel celebrates 100 years in Slater Park with a special celebration on July 3. 5 SLATER PARK SUMMER DAY CAMP The City of Pawtucket offers a free day camp program in Slater Park for all Pawtucket residents ages 6 to 13 years old. WHEN: Mondays through Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. STARTS: Tues., July 6 to Thurs., August 12 Inclement weather, camp is cancelled. WHERE: Drop off and Pick up at the Picnic Grove The program includes supervised activities and a free lunch. Children ages 14 and 15 years may apply for a non-paying assistant position. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp. REGISTRATION INFORMATION Parents must register each child in person, show proof of residency and complete the proper registration and permission forms. Space is limited on a first-come first-served basis. Registration begins Tuesday, June 1 at the Slater Park Carousel at 9:00 a.m. and continues at the Slater Park office, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. until camp is full. SKATEBOARD CLASSES for beginners and intermediates Students will learn skills based on their own abilities with direct supervision. Wednesdays, 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. starts July 7 Instructor: Frank Malinoski Cost for 5 weeks:$30 residents $50 non-residents BMX for BEGINNERS Learn the basics like dropping into the ramp, pumping the corners, and stalling the pegs. The Slater Park office roof was renovated and the building was painted. Various sports field fences were replaced throughout the city. The Marconi Gardens moat water system was reconfigured. A $600,000 Parks & Recreation Bond will be on the 2010 November ballot

Enjoy music, activities, food and a free book! Permits are available at the Park Office. The picnic grounds are open through Columbus Day, October 11. Permits are available at the Park office. Photos only: $20.00 residents $25.00 non-residents Wedding and Photos: $40.00 residents $50.00 non-residents -9- Teen the Pawtucket Public Library The Teen Zone is located on the second floor near the Reference Desk. This area features hardcover and paperback fiction for teens, as well as manga and graphic novels, comic books and magazines. There is also a section for books that appear on school and summer reading lists. Tables and chairs are available for teens to sit and read or work on homework in the Teen Zone. The Teen Summer Reading Program is open for students entering sixth grade through high school. Any books that you read between June 21 and August 27th earn you the chance to get prizes at the library. If you need to read for a school assignment or you just like to read, stop by the Teen Zone to get started anytime beginning on Monday, June 21st. To earn a prize, you must fill out a short review of the book you ve read and give it to the Teen Librarian. Teen Tuesday is from 3 to 4:15 pm on June 22, 29; July 6, 13, 20, 27; August 3, 10, 17 & 24 in the library auditorium. Students entering 6th grade through high school are welcome to stop by at 3 pm to have fun. A schedule of activities will be available on the first day and will include crafts, food, games, books and more. This program is free and no sign-up is needed. Game Time is on Thursday, July 8 and 22; August 12 and 26 in the library auditorium from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Families are welcome during Game Time, so stop by and have some fun. Board games including Sorry!, Clue, Candyland, Battleships, Twister, Bingo and more. Free. No sign-up needed. TEEN POETRY SLAM will be on Wednesdays, June 9; July 7 and August 4 from 6 to 7:30 pm in the Library Auditorium. A poetry slam is a chance for poets to recite or perform an original poem (or poems) in front of an audience who will give feedback to the poets. Movie Night will be on Wednesdays, June 30, July 28 and August 25, in the library auditorium at 6:30 pm. A newly released to DVD film will be shown. You may bring your own snacks.
