Pikington Pyrocear The new generation of Pikington fire-resistant gass Pikington Pyrocear is an advanced toughened fire-resistant gass for use as an integrity barrier. It is based on a new technoogy deveopment which we ve been perfecting and crafting for severa years, buit on an in-depth understanding of the behaviour of gass in fire, incuding new knowedge of the detai that infuences probabiity of gass faiure. With neary two hundred years of manufacturing experience, the Pikington brand has deveoped a reputation for innovation in gass, and for eading the way in the deveopment of fire-resistant gass. Pikington Pyrocear continues in that unique tradition, setting new benchmark standards for its category in terms of improved reiabiity and consistency of performance in fire. Pikington Pyrostop, Pikington Pyrodur, and Pikington Pyroshied 2 are we estabished products with an exceent reputation for reiabe fire protection. Pikington Pyrocear now extends and compements the range. Our intent is to provide a compete product range of cost effective soutions to suit the requirements of modern risk-based and performance-based fire safety design. The variety of choice in the Pikington range aows individua fire safety objectives to be met for buiding owners, authorities and insurance regarding ife safety, property protection and protected emergency services access. 4 Pikington Pyrocear : Enhanced strength characteristic Pikington Pyrocear is engineered to withstand the therma stress in fire conditions reducing the risk of fata faiure to a minimum. Pikington Pyrocear has shown in tests that it is capabe of resisting a critica temperature faiure differentia up to 50% greater than that which normay appies to toughened gass in fire. And, for greater fexibiity in gazed systems, Pikington Pyrocear has aso been designed for arger edge cover aowances than is normay the case for commony used modified toughened fire-resistant gass. 6 Appication The importance of risk profie Pikington Pyrocear is recommended for use as a physica barrier against fames, smoke and fumes. Its prime purpose shoud be for fire containment to protect against the risks that occur during the eary stages of fire, before conditions become untenabe. This is commony taken by designers to be the reativey short period for protected escape to a pace of safety before major fire deveopment occurs (typicay the first 15 to 30 minutes). That incudes the ignition, aarm, reaction and escape stages during initia fire growth eading to fashover (i.e. before the fire fis the compartment of origin and starts to spread). Pikington Pyrostop and Pikington Pyrodur are avaiabe for use at fashover where the risks are ikey to be greater, where both a fame and heat barrier, to various degrees, is a vaued enhanced benefit. That coud be, for exampe, in deveoped fire or rapid fire growth conditions, aso for higher risk occupancies and more difficut and uncertain escape situations (e.g. schoos, hospitas, nursing homes, hotes, airports and ta buidings), for property protection, enhanced protection for emergency services, and for situations where extended exposure is a possibiity. The occurrence of fire is frequenty unexpected, its deveopment uncertain and the consequences potentiay catastrophic. Product seection shoud be determined by the risk profie of the buiding (its type and design), the occupancy characteristics, the anticipated fire hazards and the ikey deveoped fire condition shoud fire break out. In that respect, the product risk profie shoud be a key consideration to fit the risk profie of the appication and the requirements of the fire safety objectives. Pikington Pyrocear used in externa façades of commercia office buidings and high-rise apartment towers to contain fames and imit spread to upper foors or adjacent areas.
