1 iesel nd gs engines genertor sets nd propulsion systems Rolls-Royce, with the ergen engine rnge is leding developer nd mnufcturer of medium speed diesel nd gs propulsion engines nd genertor sets. Since 1946 we hve developed nd instlled thousnds of units, meeting the requirements of ship owners nd lnd-bsed instlltions for robust, relible nd economicl power. In the 1980s we developed our len burn combustion system nd pplied it to engines using vrious types of gs s fuel. This hs been further refined on our ltest gs engines, providing leding therml efficiencies with high power density nd low emissions. As the mrine industry is incresingly turning towrds burning nturl gs for propulsion, ergen gs engines hve built n unrivlled trck record in powering ships, nd reducing exhust emissions of crbon dioxide, NOx, SOx nd prticultes. iesel engines re vilble in the 1,800 8,000kW power rnge nd gs engines from 1,400 7,000kW.

2 ergen mrine engines ergen diesel nd gs engine re supplied either for mechnicl trnsmission driving propeller through reduction ger, or s complete generting sets for electric propulsion or power genertion. For mrine gs engine instlltions we supply gs hndling nd storge systems together with full rnge of equipment to provide complete propulsion system solution. 3 emissions mnufcturers re fcing up to the chllenge of incresingly strict requirements for exhust emissions nd Rolls-Royce is no exception. There is growing pressure to reduce O 2 nd IMO Tier II regultions on NOx emissions will be superseded by much tougher Tier III limits in oth ergen diesel engines nd ergen gs engines re designed for mrine propulsion nd uxiliry duties. The 32:40 nd 25:33 len esign diesel engines meet IMO Tier II requirements without dditionl off-engine clen up. The 35:40 nd 26:33 gs engines hve NOx emissions lower thn the strict Tier III limits with lower O 2 equivlent emissions.* ergen gs engines hve been in mrine service for seven yers. Vessels s diverse s roro ships, feed supply vessels, ferries, tugs nd offshore supply vessels re now in-service or on order with ergen gs engines. Gs tnks nd the gs supply system to the engine re estblished technology, within the Rolls-Royce scope of supply. For mny pplictions the gs engine is becoming nturl choice. O 2 equivlent emissions re reduced by 22 per cent compred with engines burning liquid fuel, NOx emissions re cut by 92 per cent, while emissions of SOx nd prticultes re negligible. The design of the ergen 26:33 cuts methne slip to very low levels. 17 hybrid nd electric propulsion systems SVe ube Pltform supply, multi-purpose, emergency response/rescue, costgurd nd reserch vessels. y moving to hybrid or electric propulsion, owners hve in-built flexibility tht cn not only reduce emissions nd optimise fuel, but they re lighter nd tke up less spce, with lower noise nd vibrtion levels nd reduced mintennce costs. We optimise the system to mtch the vessels operting profile, the min designs re illustrted. Electric systems re normlly trnsformer-less with vrible frequency motors on fixed frequency networks. This mens they cn lso ccommodte bttery power supply nd cn be plugged into shore connection of vrible frequency. We select the best components from our brod supplier bse nd deliver complete pckge. This pproch relieves the shipbuilder of much of the technicl risk nd mnging multiple equipment suppliers. SVe Line Pltform supply, multi-purpose, emergency response/rescue, costgurd nd reserch vessels. The ltest genertion system designed with single integrted driveswitchbord for the whole vessel. All frequency convertors, drives nd switchbords re housed in single cbinet for significntly smller footprint. A single cbinet is simpler to cool nd hs fewer connections. It is therefore much esier to instll, mny more connection termintions re done t the fctory. Additionl bttery power is vilble for slow speed trnsits in hrbour or for pek power lod smoothing. All engines cn operte t vrible speeds to mximise their efficiency for the required power. speed will utomticlly be djusted to the power being demnded in the most fuel efficient wy. SVe Step Power intensive ships - smll cruise, diving support, pltform supply, construction support, jck-up nd well intervention vessels. nd reserch A trditionl diesel-electric propulsion system lredy supplied to over 130 vessels operting tody. Uses ctive front end (AFE) technology for more stble clen voltge nd fst response to lod control chnges. The number of genertors instlled is dependent on the totl shipbord power requirements nd the vessel's operting profile. Those running is dependent on the power required. When trnsiting t slow speed or in stnd-by mode with reduced power demnd, some engines cn be turned off. Similr to the SAVe Line system but specificlly designed for vessels with over 20MW of instlled generted power. The min difference is the incorportion of trnsformers to step-down the voltge. The system uses high voltge (3-11kV) on the min switchbord nd genertors nd low voltge on the consumers nd distribution. ombined pulse (12, 18 or 24 pulse) nd step-down trnsformers cn be used in combintion with pulse drive units. Alterntively, the system cn be bsed on AFE drive units, therefore only stepdown trnsformers re used nd ll the dvntges of the SAVe Line system with AFE re relised in the most fuel efficient wy.

One cbinet performs the tsk of severl power functions nd drives. The compct design reduces footprint size to sve spce nd weight. Systems rchitecture cn ccommodte: Hybrid shft genertor (PTP/PTI), ttery energy storge for lod smoothing/opertion, shore connection, winch drive or power for ny other electricl equipment. hybrid (ypss hybrid genertor) Fishing, costl, offshore vessels Not s sophisticted s the hybrid shft genertor (HSG) system. It is n idel option for power conversions, s the vessels existing electricl mchines nd switchbords cn be retined nd do not hve to be Rolls-Royce supply. Fixed speed is required on the diesel when generting power for the switchbord. An AFE drive is instlled between the shft-genertor nd the switchbord. This provides dditionl power when used with the min engine nd provides full vrible speed electric propulsion when the min engine is stopped, for slow speed/stndby modes or s n emergency/tke-me-home system. To updte to the HSG concept, requires specil motor nd switchbord. onventionl hybrid Fishing, pltform supply, construction vessels Hs the simplest systems rchitecture with seprte genertor nd electric motor. The genertor is normlly mounted on the front of the min diesel with stndrd electric motor on the gerbox. Min engine cn operte s genertor set for high power requirements. When less power is required the uxiliry genertor set cn provide the hotel lod nd sufficient power for slow speed cruising. Uses AFE technology so fixed engine rpm is not required when operting the shft genertor. The switchbord sees constnt voltge nd frequency, nd the correct phse ngle to mtch the other genertor sets running in prllel. Propeller nd engine efficiencies cn be mximised by ensuring they re running t their most efficient point. HSG solution provides lower fuel nd less emissions. The bility to reduce engine rpm to mtch the vessel's overll power requirements significntly reduces fuel nd emissions. Upgrding existing systems to HSG is normlly strightforwrd with short pybck time. oost mode for mximum speed This mode is selected for mximum speed nd hrnesses most of the ship s power, including output from the uxiliry genertor sets for propulsion. The shft genertor is operting s motor with n output of 2,500 kw running in prllel with the 6,000 kw min diesel engine t 750 rpm. This gives totl power of 8,500 kw on the propeller shft. A A Reduction ger iesel-electric mode for efficient lower speeds Two uxiliry gensets re running t 50 per cent power providing 900 kw ech to the system. 300 kw is used for hotel lods nd 1,500 kw is vilble for propulsion. In this mode, the shft genertor is running s motor with the HSG system controlling the shft speed. SG M

19 prllel mode for excess power This is new efficient wy of running two engines, where the power required for propulsion nd hotel lods exceeds tht vilble from the genertor sets lone. The shft genertor is feeding 500 kw into the eletricl system in prllel with one uxiliry genertor. The HSG system keeps the frequency fixed t 60 HZ even if the min engine is running t round hlf power with vrible speed. Trnsit mode for optimum efficiency This mode is used to optimise propeller efficiency for the required speed. The min engine runs t vrible speed with the shft genertor supplying the ship s electricl needs. Therefore, both uxiliry genertors cn be shut off. Mode shifting Simply shifting modes A chllenge with complex hybrid systems is tht chnging operting modes cn be complicted. The newly developed Rolls-Royce AON mode shift system utomtes the process, so tht with single keystroke on the bridge the cptin cn shift from one mode to nother. Optiml nd economic opertion lso requires n overview of the ship systems, so the cptin nd the engineers need to see how efficiently the systems nd equipment re working. Here, the AON economy picture provides the bsis for optimistion, or indictes the need to move to different mode. ombining these products with Rolls-Royce power nd propulsion system gives unique combintion of user-friendliness nd flexibility, not only when the vessel is new, but lso lter in life, when the operting profile my well hve chnged. power overview The AON mode shift system provides view of the power vilble on the min busbr (green) for mjor power consumers like thrusters (ornge). Shore connection mode for lower fuel When the ship is in hrbour it hs the possibility for connecting to the norml shore power nd frequency (50Hz). The HSG converts the frequency to the ship power system which is 60 Hz. It cn lso void blck-out during chngeover from shore to ship power. There is no need to run ny of the uxiliry gensets, which will sve fuel nd reduce emissions. In ddition, noise nd vibrtion levels onbord re reduced to minimum. economy Shows fuel for min nd uxiliry engines. y using the speed of the vessel nd distnce trvelled fuel per nuticl mile is clculted.
