2 Course Guide Course BSB61015 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management Release Number 1 Currency Current Course Description This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply specialised knowledge and skills, together with experience in leadership and management, across a range of enterprise and industry contexts. Individuals at this level use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of leadership and management functions, with accountability for personal and team outcomes within broad parameters. They use cognitive and communication skills to identify, analyse and synthesise information from a variety of sources and transfer their knowledge to others, and creative or conceptual skills to express ideas and perspectives or respond to complex problems. Target Students Lennox Institute key student target groups for this course include: Individuals who are currently working in management role Employed persons who are seeking to upgrade their existing skills Persons who are fully experienced within the Business industry and are seeking formal recognition of their existing skills. Location Lennox Institute (Head Office) Suite 3, 2 Turbo Road, Kings Park, NSW 2148 Course Duration & Timelines The course can be delivered over a range of course durations, depending on the needs and characteristics of the Student and their employer where relevant. The standard course duration is: 12 months full time; or months part time/external study. Students may complete the program earlier than these timelines through achievement of RPL or credit transfer. Specific Industry / Stakeholder Needs Industry requires individuals with the ability to lead a team of people through change, using effective communication. A leader and manager should encourage innovation and coach and performance manage the team to ensure that KPIs are achieved. Authorised by: CEO 2

3 Course Organisation & Delivery Modes In each student context, Lennox Institute personnel recommend a study pathway in consultation with the student providing a logical program structure for students undertaking learning and assessment tasks. The delivery model with a Lennox Institute personnel mentor facilitates the opportunity to negotiate program structures with students, utilising Lennox Institute Training Schedule. This negotiated pathway allows students to align the learning program to their individual and organisational needs. Students should expect to undertake approximately 65 hours study per unit (15 hours per week), for the duration of the session schedule. It is recommended that students have access to a workplace to provide opportunities to put their learning into practice. Students may also be engaged with Lennox Institute personnel for workshops, approximately 1 hour per month (onthe-job) in individual coaching sessions (up to 24 hours over the duration of the program). These mentoring sessions are available at times and locations negotiated. Pathways for Students Pathways into the qualification: Preferred pathways for students considering this qualification include a Diploma of Leadership & Management or other relevant Diploma qualification or students with vocational experience but without formal supervision or management qualification. Pathways from the qualification Advanced Diploma of Leadership & Management or other Advanced Diploma qualifications These qualifications represent a logical pathway regardless of whether Lennox Institute offers the qualifications. This is a reduced list from the qualification packaging rules specified electives list. Course Nominal Hours Total course nominal hours, depending on the state jurisdiction of delivery and elective units selected, are in the range of 770 hours. Nominal hours are an allocation to describe how long a Student who does not hold any of the competencies identified in the relevant units of competency would take to develop all the required skills and knowledge. This nominal duration includes all teaching and learning activities such as guided learning (classes, lectures, tutorials, online or self-paced study), individual study, research, learning activities in the workplace and assessment activities. The amount of training provided by Lennox Institute is part of the overall volume of learning and relates primarily to formal activities including classes and other activities as well as workplace learning. Course Entry Requirements There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. Lennox Institute Course Admission Requirements Minimum age Minimum age of 18 years Education and experience Students should have completed Year 10 or equivalent Language Literacy and Numeracy skills This course requires well-developed verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Students will undertake a Language Literacy and Numeracy assessment as part of the pre-enrolment process, to identify any additional support requirements. 5 Student Identification Requirements This training product has the following specific Student identification requirements for an application for enrolment to be accepted: Unique Student Identifier (USI) Licensing Requirements No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. Student Resources, Texts, Materials, Equipment Requirements The following shows the technical requirements for using the system. Computer Any current or 2-3 years old computer is fine. This is a web based system and doesn't use much of your local computer power. For Students, minimum screen resolution recommended is 1200 x 800. You also need audio support in your computer to listen to the voiceover and sounds in the learning courses. For administrators, minimum screen resolution recommended is 1280 x Audio support is not required. Browser We officially support major browser versions released in the past 3-4 years, including Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and 9+, Mozilla Firefox 6+, and Google Chrome 30+. The system is optimised for and we recommend the latest and previous versions of Internet Explorer / Firefox / Chrome. Other browsers are not officially supported, but you still can use them to access most functions, though with a slightly different look. In your browser setup, please enable JavaScript and accept cookies from our site, as they are required by the system. Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft has dropped support for Windows XP and its Internet Explorer 8. We are still supporting Microsoft Internet Explorer 8. However, we highly recommend an upgrade, as we would drop Internet Explorer 8 support in the near future. Plug-ins Adobe Flash Player 9 is required. Network connection Minimum 512 kbps connection is required. Firewall If you have a firewall or domain filtering programs (could be your home router, or corporate network), access to the domains listed below need to be granted Some courses have been created using video and audio streaming content. Your firewall needs to be set up to enable this. However, some organisations do not allow streaming content to be accessed within the workplace. Please consult with your System Administrator. 6 At work It is recommended that a staged approach to accessing the online training is implemented. The performance varies depending on the company bandwidth and usage of other applications. Accessing rich media content requires more bandwidth and therefore it is important to be aware that performance may be affected if large numbers of staff access the system at the same time. We recommend the number of simultaneous users is relative to your bandwidth. The system can handle much larger numbers however your company's infrastructure and other traffic on your network may impact the user experience. Third Party Arrangements Lennox Institute may access the services of Third party agents or partners from time to time in delivery of high quality course services. Wherever third parties support services delivery, Lennox Institute remains responsible for the quality of training and assessment provided and for the issuing of all qualifications and statements of attainment. Work Placement Arrangements It is recommended that students have access to a workplace to provide opportunities to put their learning into practice. Fees The total Unit of Study cost is $14,990. Please refer to the Student Handbook for Lennox Institute s Refund Policy. Educational & Support Services Lennox Institute s Training Schedule is completed with all clients prior to enrolment to identify any individual need, resource requirements, delivery unit schedule and support options for clients. Students are asked to identify their individual needs, but are sometimes reluctant to do so. Lennox Institute personnel monitor the progress of all Students and their readiness for assessment as they progress through their course. Delivery materials and methods may be adapted for the special needs of clients. Some examples may include enlarging print materials for vision requirements, provision of ICT equipment and support, accessing interpreter services or using individual delivery methods. A range of support services, including LL&N training, may be accessed as required for Student needs. Assessment Arrangements A range of assessment environments are involved in the assessment of Student s competency. Workplace and case study projects are employed for summative assessment, where workplace application of all competencies can be observed by the Lennox Institute Assessor. For on-the-job assessment observations, the Assessor organises to visit the Student on-site at a mutually convenient time. Authorised by: CEO 6

7 For particular pathways where relevant, such as assessment only pathways, outline the assessment methods, timing and resources. Information should also cover how issues will be addressed (for example, what options are available if a Student does not achieve the competency requirements). Recognition documentation and applications is available for all units of competency for those Students who have extensive experience in the unit areas. RPL applications will be offered and processed as per Lennox Institute s Student Advice and Selection Policy. At all times, the assessment approaches planned will be compliant with Lennox Institute s Assessment Policy, and when implemented will meet the Code of Conduct requirements. All assessment approaches used are compliant with the requirements of the Assessment Guidelines from the national Training Package or accredited course curriculum. For each unit of competency (and each element within the unit), a range of evidence will be collected as per the evidence gathering techniques below. It is a requirement that all assessments maintain at a minimum, two types of appropriate evidence to verify the candidate s competence for each element within a unit, which address the performance criteria requirements of the elements. At least one of these evidence pieces should be a form of direct evidence (it should be noted that evidence pieces may overlap elements and units within the course). All assessment tools are aligned directly with the course the following ways: Meets Unit, Element & Performance Criteria requirements; Covers the Unit Range Statement or Range of Conditions, Evidence Guide and Critical Aspects of Evidence or Assessment Conditions; Covers all Underpinning Knowledge or Knowledge Evidence, and Skills requirements or Performance Evidence; and Covers Specific Evidence Requirements as listed in each individual unit of competency. Resources are often specified that must be used in assessment at a unit of competency level. All specific resources for each unit of competency are listed within Lennox Institute s Assessment Resource for each unit. Information within each unit resource includes: Specific assessment resources required; Assessment methods available to be used; Plan for and timing of assessment; and Any adjustments that may be needed to cater for different Student characteristics. Assessors, when deeming a candidate competent, must have judged evidence collected to also have met the requirement of the Dimensions of Competency and be certain that the candidate can consistently apply and transfer the skills and knowledge covered into new work situations. Reasonable Adjustment There may be times and situations in which a Student may require reasonable adjustment of the training and assessment methods implemented by Lennox Institute to meet their specific individual needs. These individual Student needs may include (but not limited to): Disability; Temporary or permanent injury (i.e. back injury, broken leg/arm); or Sight or hearing impairments. Reasonable adjustments to the way in which evidence of performance is gathered (e.g. in terms of the information to be provided to the candidate and the type of evidence to be collected from the candidate) can only occur where the adjustments do not alter the expected performance standards for learning and assessment. The reasonable adjustments to the training and assessment process may include a variety of modifications to the methods of delivery and assessments to assist the Student undertake the course. The adjustments may include actions such as: Assistance in the form of the training location to allow easier access Authorised by: CEO 7

8 Accessing relevant equipment or aids to assist the Student adjustments to the assessment methods to cater for any special needs (without effecting the integrity of the outcome) Where a Student requests or is identified as requiring reasonable adjustment to the training and assessment process a detailed training and assessment plan including timetables, notes regarding the required adjustments, and any related communications regarding the adjustments are maintained in the Student file. Course Specific Withdrawal Information Lennox Institute s standard withdrawal process applies to this qualification. Please refer to the Student Handbook. Unit Outlines BSBFIM601 - Manage finances (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake budgeting, financial forecasting and reporting and to allocate and manage resources to achieve the required outputs for the business unit. It includes contributing to financial bids and estimates, allocating funds, managing budgets and reporting on financial activity. It applies to individuals who have managerial responsibilities which include overseeing the management of financial and other resources across a business unit, a series of business units or teams, or an organisation. It covers all areas of broad financial management. In a larger organisation this work would be supported by specialists in financial management. BSBINN601 - Lead and manage organisational change (Release 1) This unit describes skills and knowledge required to determine strategic change requirements and opportunities; and to develop, implement and evaluate change management strategies. It applies to managers with responsibilities that extend across the organisation or across significant parts of a large organisation. They may have a dedicated role in human resources management, human resources development, or work in a strategic policy or planning area. The unit takes a structured approach to change management and applies to people with considerable work experience and organisational knowledge. BSBMGT605 - Provide leadership across the organisation (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate senior leadership behaviour and personal and professional competence. Business ethics are also addressed in this unit. It applies to individuals who have a role in inspiring and motivating others to achieve organisational goals and to model professionalism in their organisation and industry. Leadership is seen in the context of the organisational mission. BSBMGT617 - Develop and implement a business plan (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to run a business operation and covers the steps required to develop and implement a business plan. It applies to individuals who are running an organisation or who take a senior role in determining the effective functioning and success of the organisation. As such, they may oversee the work of a number of teams and other managers. BSBINM601 - Manage knowledge and information (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and maintain information processing systems to support decision making; and to optimise the use of knowledge and learning throughout the organisation. It applies to individuals who are responsible for ensuring that critical knowledge and information are readily available to review the organisation s performance and to ensure its effective functioning. It applies to a wide range of knowledge and information such as business performance data, customer feedback, statistical data and financial data. BSBMGT616 - Develop and implement strategic plans (Release 1) Authorised by: CEO 8

9 This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish the strategic direction of the organisation, sustain competitive advantage and enhance competitiveness. It covers analysis and interpretation of relevant markets, capability assessment of the organisation and analysis of the organisation s existing and potential competitors and allies. It also covers implementation of the strategic plan and developing specific actions and initiatives that will be undertaken by people working in various roles. It applies to individuals working in senior roles in the organisation who have responsibility for ensuring that the organisation is positioned to ensure its long-term viability and success. BSBMKG609 - Develop a marketing plan (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research, develop and present a marketing plan for an organisation. It applies to individuals working in senior marketing positions who are responsible for formulating a marketing plan by developing specific marketing strategies and tactics in accordance with the organisation s overall marketing objectives. Individuals operating at this level may receive input from people working under their supervision who collect information required to devise specific marketing strategies and tactics. BSBRSK501 - Manage risk (Release 1) This unit describes skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting. It applies to individuals who are working in positions of authority and are approved to implement change across the organisation, business unit, program or project area. They may or may not have responsibility for directly supervising others. BSBHRM602 - Manage human resources strategic planning (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, implement and maintain a strategic approach to managing human resources in an organisation ensuring that the organisation has the structure and staff to meet current and foreseeable business and performance objectives It applies to individuals employed as human resource managers after a firm grounding has been established in a range of human resource activities. BSBSUS501 - Develop workplace policy and procedures for sustainability (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement a workplace sustainability policy and to modify the policy to suit changed circumstances. It applies to individuals with managerial responsibilities who undertake work developing approaches to create, monitor and improve strategies and policies within workplaces and engage with a range of relevant stakeholders and specialists. BSBMGT615 - Contribute to organisation development (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to contribute to the creation of an organisation development plan which ensures that the organisation will become more effective over time in achieving its goals. It applies to individuals with organisation wide responsibilities who are critically involved in shaping and focussing the organisation so that it can adapt to new technologies, challenges and markets. BSBMGT608 - Manage innovation and continuous improvement (Release 1) This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to sustain and develop an environment in which continuous improvement, innovation and learning are promoted and rewarded. It applies to people with managerial responsibilities who aim to build a better and more effective work environment. Continuous improvement and innovation have links with the model of the learning organisation and people working at this level play an important role in building the culture, values and attitudes of the organisation.
