1 APRIL 2016 Courses for adults Skills and leisure If you fancy a fresh start this April, then try a part time course with Kirklees College. From improving your computer skills to Caribbean cooking; we have a course for you. For the most up to date course list, please search Do I qualify for discount? Kirklees College wants to encourage as many people to benefit from our courses as possible. Some of the college s adult education courses (for those aged 19 or over) can be offered at a discounted for those who are in receipt of certain state benefits. You may be eligible for a discount: (a) If you are not working and claiming one of the following benefits at the start of the course and it is your intention to work in the future. You will need to sign a declaration form when you come into college. Benefits that qualify for discounted s: Council Tax Reduction (excluding single occupancy) Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related) Housing Benefit Income Support Unemployed person named on a joint claim for Working Tax Credit with a household income under 15,276 or (b) If you are in receipt of the below benefits at the start of the course: Employment Support Allowance (ESA) Work Related Activity Group (WRAG) Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) (inc. those receiving National Insurance Credits only). Universal Credit and mandated (required) to undertaking skills training (Accepted a Claimant Commitment ) HOW DO I ENROL? Courses for skills and leisure Online STORE All courses will be available to buy online from 24 March. Go to and click the orange Online Store button. Select your course, fill in our online enrolment form (one per course per person) and pay using a credit or debit card. Postal Select your course or courses Complete a postal enrolment form available from the information team info@kirkleescollege.ac.uk Post the completed form to Customer Service Team, Kirklees College, Huddersfield Centre, Waterfront Quarter, Manchester Road, HD1 3LD or deliver your form to a reception desk at any Kirklees College centre and mark for the attention of Customer Services. This course will support you to become more confident with using the internet for its many purposes and sending/receiving s for business or pleasure. GM51HSLA-N06 Creative Writing - GM52HLA-N06 Creative Writing - All Devise titles and create characters in this class for beginner writers. Find inspiration for writing and develop your skills and confidence. Have a go at a short story for starters. This class is basic and unsuitable for anyone with previous experience. Find inspirational ideas to write your own poems and short stories to be able to submit to competitions. GM92HLB-N06 Pan Asian Cookery Pan Asian cuisine takes many forms because Asia is so big and rich with dining cultures. Try a mix of Thai, Chinese and Japanese food in this new cookery course. Make your own baba ganoush and a range of middle-eastern cuisine in this short 5 week course. Ingredients included. Learn the basics of web design using Dreamweaver. This course will look at coding, HTML tags, formatting, aligning, tables and image links. French for beginners is an interactive course designed to develop the skills needed to speak and understand simple French in everyday contexts. The course takes you through a wide range of practical situations such as introducing yourself, talking about your family, travelling, shopping, and eating out in Frenchspeaking countries. This short course provides an introduction to the key issues associated with grief and loss, and outlines the different theories that have been developed in this important area of counselling work. This course will look at manual controls and settings, exposure, history of photography, metering modes, depth of field, light trails and action photography and other topics to help you improve your photography skills. Own camera needed - bring your instruction booklet if you have one. A tripod will be an advantage. This short 5 week course will show how easy it is to make fresh pasta, creamy risotto and tasty Italian dishes to excite your mealtimes. Ingredients included. GM94HLH-N06 Caribbean Cookery Have a go at some firm favourites and try Caribbean cookery across the West Indies from Jerk Chicken to sticky rice and peas. First week's ingredients will be provided but there will be a charge for some ingredients in following sessions. GM94HLK-N06 Photo Editing Part 1 Photos not quite right? Just left on your camera or computer? Want to know how to improve them after you have taken them? Then come along to our beginners photo editing course! This first five week course will look at downloading your photos, cropping and rotating, adjusting lighting and colours, using selection tools and removing minor imperfections in Adobe Photoshop. This second five week course will look at including working with layers, adding text, applying filters, sharpening and softening images, combining images effectively and creating panoramic images, all in Adobe Photoshop.
