2 Introduction Welcome to the Queen Elizabeth College Community Education courses for Terms Courses are funded solely through the Course Fee and the costs listed by tutors for materials costs for individual courses. Minimum numbers of ten (10) students are needed for each course to run. We are fortunate that we have committed experienced tutors who have taken up the challenge to continue providing quality courses. We encourage you to enrol, and continue your learning journey and we look forward to welcoming you to Queen Elizabeth College Community Education. Course Fee Cost per person for each Course is $ unless otherwise stated. This does not include the individual costs for course materials which need to be paid along with the course fee when you enrol. Payment Methods Electronic Banking on confirmation of enrolments Cash Cheque (payable to Queen Elizabeth College) EFTPOS Cancellation & Refund Policy If the course does not start or if you withdraw eight (8) days or more before the start date You will receive a full refund. No refund will be issued if; you withdraw less than eight (8) days prior to the start date or the course has already started. On the date that enrolments close, a decision will be made to run or cancel a course. We are not able to change this decision even if a rush of late enrolments is received. This is not a fair expectation of Tutors who have already been advised that their course has been cancelled. Therefore, it is important that if you wish to participate in a course, you need to make sure that you are enrolled by the due date. Course Times Most courses run on Wednesday nights, between 7 and 9pm, unless specified in the course outline. 4 Cooking Economical and Healthy Family Meals Offered in Terms 2 & 3 Johnnita Houghton It does not get any easier to produce nourishing and healthy family meals on a tight budget. This class will provide you with a range of ideas and menus to feed your family in an economical and healthy way. COURSE MATERIALS Will be advised prior to the class To be confirmed Noel Munford Digital Photography Offered in Terms 2,3, Have you recently purchased a digital camera? Have you discovered a number of buttons and terms that you know nothing about? Do you want to leave the camera on auto because that setting works - then this is the course is for you. In just eight weeks, we will remove much of the mystique and take you on a journey of discovery. By the end of the course, you will be able to take great photos with a whole new understanding of the features of your digital camera. The learning is very hands on. Technical stuff is kept to a minimum and our groups are kept small to allow many opportunities to ensure individual understanding. PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES 1. Make appropriate camera setting choices other than auto that are better suited to specific situations. 2. Make effective judgements leading to correct exposure. 3. Understanding the correct use of exposure and compensation controls. 4. Make creative use of lighting and composition to add impact to your pictures. $10 per person for photocopying. 5 Get the Most From Your Smart Phone Offered in Terms 2,3,4 Do the functions on your smart phone bewilder you? Would you like to be able to use more of the functions on your smart phone? How do you decide what plan is best for you? How do I get my smart phone to talk to other devices? How do I keep my information secure and private? What do I do is my smart phone is stolen?... And bring any other questions you may have. This will be a 4 week night course. COURSE MATERIALS Your smart phone Course Fee will be $55.00 S Gift Making Offered in Term 3 (This class will be offered on Thursdays) Kate Parker-Corney and Pearl Parker There is a lot of satisfaction in making your own gifts for family and friends. This does not have to be expensive and we will often use op shop finds, resalvedged materials to make unique and personalised gifts. Bring along your ideas and share them with the group as we want this to be a fun and interactive class. You do not have to be either arty or crafty to participate in the this class. 6 Italian for Beginners/Travellers Offered in Terms 1, 2 & 3 Bethany Fallow This will be a 6 week course in Term 1 and 8 weeks for Terms 2 & 3. Term 1 Classes will start on Wednesday 25 February and will be run from 6:30 8:30pm The Course will be basic Italian for conversation or travellers. COURSE FEE Term 1 $85.00 Term 2 & 3 $ Jacqui Davidson NZ Sign Language Offered in Terms 1, 2,3,4 Are you interested in visual communication? This is a practical course for anyone interested in communicating confidently and easily with the deaf, be it family, friend, government department or business. NZSL is the natural language at the heart of the adult deaf community. PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES 1. Increase confidence and skills in NZSL. 2. Aware of deaf culture and communication behaviours. 3. Develop your skills in visual language, facial expressions and body language. 4. More understanding of how to use NZSL and communicate with deaf people. $60 per person workbook. 7 Photoshop for Absolute Beginners Offered in Term 3 Russian Language For Beginners Offered in Terms 2,3,4 Tanya Hopcroft (Native Russian Tutor) Learn the basics of using this very versatile piece of software. Maximum 12 people $10.00 per term This course will introduce you to basic Russian language skills for travel communication purposes, and give you beginner's knowledge if you are interested in learning Russian language. If you plan to travel to Russia, then this course will help you to make your trip less stressful. If you would like to learn Russian, then by the end of this course you would be able to read simple sentences and answer simple questions. There will be a range of topics and activities to allow you to learn Russian language in a stress-free environment. PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES 1. Introduce yourself and your family. 2. Express your feelings, ask for food and directions. 3. Learn Russian alphabet. 4. Learn to read basic sentences. 5. 8 Woodwork and Furniture Making Offered in Terms 1,2, 3, 4 Wesley McLellan With the guidance of your tutor, you design and make the furniture that you need for your home. Bring an idea of what you would like to make and we will advise on materials you will need to bring. We provide the facilities, including a knowledgeable tutor. Bulk machining of timber for home-based activities is not permitted. $10.00 per person per term for tools maintenance Students provide own materials. Jonathan Atkins Yoga For Beginners Offered Terms 1, 2, 3 and 4 Yoga is about unifying the body and mind through various postures. Yoga relaxes, stretches and strengthens. This eight week course is designed for beginners through the repetition of stretches, breath work and asana (posture). Students will gain sufficient knowledge to assist them in maintaining good general overall health. Class is 1.5 hours long only 6:30 pm 8pm. Xero Accounting Software and Book Keeping Skills Offered Term 2 TBC Offered by a Xero Certified Specialist Everyone receives a free copy of the book Xero for Dummies Each weekly session will run for two hours with the last half hour set aside for your specific questions/examples and troubleshooting Week 1: Xero Features & What makes it different? This is a 2 day course and will run on a Saturday or a Sunday Jacque Aldridge COURSE COST $ A certificated course for those tutoring or wishing to start tutoring adults in a community setting which covers: creating a learning climate, characteristics of adult learners, group dynamics, course planning and evaluation. Some participants have been music/ drama teachers, language and ESOL tutors, early childhood educators, HR practitioners in the aged care and other sectors, IT trainers. By the end of the course, you'll have: gained confidence in your ability to facilitate a group discussed adult learning styles and their relationship to tutoring acquired skills for creating a positive learning experience completed a practical exercise in course development, task analysis and lesson presentation completed an evaluation exercise Taking Minutes and Running Meetings (1 day) Offered in Term 2,3, or 4 exact exact date to be finalised once there are sufficient numbers.
